this movie is absolutely brilliant. art in such fine form. really speechless right now, but this is some serious business right here. can't wait to watch the second one, and I can't wait for the third to be finished (and accepted)!

hey baxter? could you encode the walkthroughs? Pretty please. I spent about six hours watching 20+ ten minute parts for the first quest on youtube and it was pretty agonizing to watch. I would love to watch your walkthroughs..... please encode? pretty please?

i think this run should be directly linked to in the description of the new whacked out run. i think that this run is more relevant to the average chrono trigger fan, and if i didn't have a greater sense of how to navigate the site, it could be difficult to find. just a thought

wow. that is the best rationale behind an april fool's day joke i've ever heard. if you guys had simply "APRIL FOOLS"d us i'd have been pissed, but, i am forced to admit (however much i may have hated on the prank, which was a teeny bit ovbious) you do bring up a lot of good points. i will be the first to publicly admit that i haven't donated any $$ to the site since i first found it, back when bisqwit was in charge, back in the iki.fi days so next time i am physically able (i suspect i'm not the only one working a shit job in these troubling times), I plan to donate. Thanks guys for scaring the shit out of me and forcing me to own up to supporting something i love a lot and hold dearly. Feel like you've brought out some serious emotion in this diverse and intelligent community and although i lead a pretty busy life, this site and a few albums are basically the only reason i survived my last breakup, to cite just one example of this community's influence outside of geeking out. To all others who say that this site and its community are important to their lives, I UNDERSTAND. It's not just a bunch of movies to watch, it's a group of people who share an aesthetic interest. We are blessed to be able to talk about massive god like speed runs of (mostly) classic video games for hours on end and nobody is going to judge us! I know this is something that most of us could not manage to do in our "real" lives. This is an important outlet for our generation, having been one of the first raised on gaming digital entertainment. I think that we who love this site owe it to those who put real time and money into building this community to give back. To some, this may seem blown out of proportion, but the content found on this site really is one of a kind, and we owe it to ourselves and to the managers to submit content, respond to changes, make changes, donate, edit, encode, TAS, interact, and most importantly to keep in mind that you are most likely spending time on someone else's dime so try not to be to harsh when you don't immediately understand a change or a decision. Trust that the people running this site want the best for it, but not everybody is going to agree all of the time, so concessions sometimes have to be made. Waking up I thought there would be no way I would agree with the pulling of such a chaos-inducing prank, but I have to say, you sadistic fucks really pulled that one out. Cheers. I'd also like to agree with someone who stated that the methods of TASing can be applied to life. I thought that was a seriously bad ass statement.

guys, seriously? i mean, come on?? i know next to nothing about the technical aspects of TASing, however i don't understand how 6-7+ years of work can be invalidated by a realization? Somebody brought up a point that if TASing is like "godlike" playing, couldn't this godlike player know exactly when to turn on the cartridge? could somebody maybe explain how this realization invalidates all of the movies that have been made? the movies look real enough, everbody, just don't do whatever it is that you could do to cheat out the game. keep the rules the same as they have been and i really really really see no reason why this still isn't a valid sport. please don't take the site down... and if you do, can people still upload TASes all the time to the mirror/clone site? seems like there are still a lot of people who's appreciation of this art has not been affected by blades of steel. I love blades of steel, but i'd never forgive it if it took away this site. i hope this is a damn joke because this is silly as hell.
I say, make a poll and see if people care about the impossibilities and the "cheating" or if they just enjoy what we have been doing. My opinion is clear, there is no need to shut the site down. We are going to need to redefine the rules, that much is clear. But shutting down the site violates the spirit of finding a way to do something even when it seems impossible.
forgot who that quote was from, but COME ON, listen to the logic in it. people cannot be serious here about shutting down the site. nfw!! bisqwit's crying avatar only serves to convince me more that this is a joke, because there's no way you people could be serious here.

I will say this before the site goes down. Nothing is ever perfect in programming. This is why there are bugs in games that are seemingly perfect like Super Mario 64. I like programming and when I look at the abuse these games get, I think to myself, "How do I prevent that from happening in my game?" Thank you to everyone who has been apart of this. I realize this is my first post here, and probably my only one, but I have watched runs on this site for a little while. I enjoy the stuff here. More fun then SDA runs. I will miss this site.
why does this lurker make like the site is going down or something?

i definately appreciate the hard work you are putting in, but i don't know if this will ever be as entertaining as nova's playthrough. just a side note, though, as they will be two completely different beasts. keep up the good work! EDIT:: Gotta say, after watching all of the playthrough and then watching your WIP again i liked it a LOT more the second time! don't be discouraged, the run looks aweseom!

if the money goes to the site then it is a good way to incentivize donations.
that's the whole point. people aren't forced to participate, but if someone is looking for both a project to work on and a way to help the site they would need look no further than the bounties page or thread. As for guaranteeing people would play i think

As to guaranteeing payment, you could make people donate money when the bounty is put up, but set the money aside and not spend it until the run is complete. Then give people the option of rescinding the bounty after say, a year (just to stop people from frivolously putting up a bounty and taking it back). More complicated but fair "IMO"
has the right idea, if it is agreed this is necessary. I'd say it's a good idea, but it is a quite a bit of trouble to go through that process for each proposed bounty. If only it were possible to trust people on the internet... alas...

Glad to see some interest in the idea! My whole motivation in this endeavor is simply to make public that there are runs I want to see so bad that I would pay to see them. We discussed paying the person making the run but I believe the arguments against that method are strong enough to dissuade that from being public practice. However, since it seems unlikely we'll see much protest regarding users making unsolicited donations to the site, I think the only things keeping the world from knowing that I would pay twenty bucks for a solar jetman 100% run are a) an appropriate home for the bounties to be posted and b) ironing out of specifics (which could certainly continue after the bounties have been published). I guess the main debate is whether the moderators should go through the trouble creating a page on the server for public viewing. The converse of this being having an official thread for bounty posting. Personally I would love to see a real page (maybe even a tab!??) so that more people will learn about the bounty system. For example, I have been a member almost 2 years, visited the site for longer, but i didn't start posting on the forums til like a few months ago or something. If there had been a place on the site, non discussion board (like a tab ;) I could have bountied 100% solar jetman i would have done it over a year ago. I guess the main problem is that I am in no position to do any work to create a site on the server. I guess one matter of motivation to consider is the probability of more people becoming interested and more donations being submitted to the site. However if that is the case:
Bezman wrote:
It wouldn't work unless folk paid first since otherwise, payment wouldn't be guaranteed.
that would be true. If the bounties were forum bound, then there's a good chance many of the regular posters wouldn't risk losing their place in the community to skip out on a ten dollar donation to a site they frequent all of the time. If a bunch of lurkers start posting fifty dollar star fox 64 bounties all over the place then the character of the system would start to break down. However, we might not be able to call them bounties if people just pay ten dollars to say they want a game TASd (which would be the situation exactly if people had to pay first - the very idea of a bounty implies payment upon capture, whether that be humans or frames :D:D:D so, page or post, basically

yeah, but i guess my point it that logically, at this point in the game, with no shrinking machine (travelpod, whatever it is called), the only characters you are allowed to name (and not have in all caps btw) are Bowie and Kiwi. PETER cannot be renamed (and at this particular point he is an NPC). Guess i thought it'd be more obvious....
