Thanks bisqwit. Sorry no youtube on that one kwinse, but here is new verison in avi, smv. It's 20 megs, what is the easiest way to get decent compression on windows snes9x? I went back to the first level and used an extra grapple towards the end, it saved 2 frames, but for some reason lag between levels reduced by 3 frames. In redoing of the second level I saved a couple frames here and there saving a total of 11 frames from both levels. I spent alot of time trying to come up with a better method for launching onto the ladder but to no avail. In the next level I think I can save time skipping the ladder. I'm pretty fortunate to be able to find major changes so far, but I think my luck will soon run out, there are a few levels where I know the existing method is the best.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

Fast paced and lots of nifty glitches... Nice movie!

I'm going to start linking to google videos, and/or youtube from the published videos page, any editor can help the process.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

Here is field 1 in smv. It is 29 frames (105 total) faster than the previous published movie. I lost 2 frames in the transition to field 1, I think due to lag, I'll have to investigate. Also I suffered a few frames of lag due to monsters spawning on the screen. I'll look into luck manipulation to avoid that, but I think it is not based on luck. The new method after the ladder was 2 frames faster than previous movie, the other 27 come from the major change in the beginning to middle.
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

The high rerecord count is mostly because I started from the same smv as old run which was in the 12,000s. Once I had optimized the new route, I probably spent over 1000 more rerecords to save 1 more frame, ridiculous I know, but that was all I needed to save an additional time unit. In field 1 I think I have a new strategy as well, I expect it to save about 20 frames when optimized, but if it's close I'll have to play using the old method, to make sure that doesn't improve enough to still be better. I'll post when its optimized. Minor discovery today, you can use left+right/up+down to help move when shooting. This might help miniscule amounts later, but there is no place it would have been benificial in field 0. Example use: if you press left+right+up+y it will shoot up, but you will move left.

New route for field 0, 47 frames faster than the old, saving 2 time units (69 frames) from previously published version!! smv or youtube Moving onto field 1 but I'll probably take a break first. I don't think there will be anything dramatic in field 1, but I'll try...
g,o,p,i=1e4,a[10001];main(x){for(;p?g=g/x*p+a[p]*i+2*!o: 53^(printf("%.4d",o+g/i),p=i,o=g%i);a[p--]=g%x)x=p*2-1;}

Good luck, but now it would probably be bad if we reached our goal of 30 good lucks.

Here's the update. Finished field 0 22 frames faster than before. About 6 were from improved precision during the first half of the level, the rest due to a different method for the finish. smv or see at youtube Edit: forgot to mention that it is possible (previously thought impossible) to make the hook go high enough to hit that one ceiling at the beginning, but it turned out to be slower. smv Also before I move on, does anyone have any suggestions for F0 or F1 (or any field for that matter)?

Good reasoning with skipping the blue boomerang. I am can't remember, but is the chest in the south west of the village in the dark world the only place that gives you the red boomerang if you have no boomerang?

I am currently experiencing two problems with my new computer and snes9x, the only thing I can think of is that it is related to dual core. So are there any dual core windows users that have either gotten snes9x-improvement9 to work properly or improperly? If so please post so I can either confirm or deny the cause. BTW the problem is that in auto frame rate at speed 100%, it runs at exactly 1/2 speed it should (30 fps). Also the sound is messed up and when I play a smv it crashes unless I uncheck the option sync samples with sound cpu. Oh and even with sound disabled it still runs at 1/2 speed, so I don't think it is sound card related, but maybe.

Ah I should have looked around better before making this topic. So it looks like people are already doing a good job uploading to youtube and google video with proper description. All that is left to do is to is possibly link to them from our site, and to keep up the uploading of new videos. Some videos link to a DL from archive.org. Can editors be given the ability to link to youtube/google video in this area too?

Thanks. Two more questions, would you like to link to the youtube/google video from the movie page? And if so should it be done from inside the Download Famtasia movie (.fmv) (date: 2004-07-06) Download AVI file via BitTorrent (size: 61 MB, length: 20:31) (currently unavailable) Read author's comments in submission #64 Discuss this movie Obsoletes movie #5 (21:52) Not rated — Rate this movie part or should it be editted in the description of the movie? If it is the latter I can start adding links to taipon's uploads now. And I should probaby contact taipon so he knows what is going on.

Well its been a while since playing this. Recently I was thinking about it and saw this video at youtube. It beats field 11 in roughly the same speed as in my TAS by uses a completely different method. The important thing to note is that while climbing up on the final block it starts to move up again. This happens when the hook is being stretched upwards while climbing. I played around with it and I think a similar strategy can be used to beat this field a little faster, so I am going to give this game a go again. I won't be spending as much time per day as in past TASes but I'll be posting progress and asking ideas from anyone who is interested. I was googling just now and I came across this site in japanese that has a ton of tricks, but googles translator isn't as much of a help as one would hope. The moveable floor pulling up trick is included there so it must be good :). Alot of the tricks look more for fun than practical but I'll study them more later. Another trick listed there is pressing select 100 times at the start menu to turn the 30 minute rule into a 5 minute rule. This could be cool for a long route. I'm not very familiar with the 30 minute rule though, does it just give you a chance of warping to an exit room from each exit? Or can it warp you to other fields too? That could make doing a 100% completion possible. Edit: after reading back I notice, that the 100 select thing and the Up+Down on ladder was already known, sorry about that. Also I'm pretty sure the 30 min rule can only take you to an exit level. It might be useful to skip maybe the last boss fight in a long route.

Although with a director's account at YouTube you can surpass 10 minutes, you are still limitted to 100 MB per video, most of the time this is plenty. We could do google too. Does google have limits on size or length?

I used JXQ's format to complain to youtube and they removed the SMW video. It there is an agreement that videos should be put on YouTube, only 2 real things would need to be changed. First this statement "Reproduction of all material from this site is expressly forbidden for the following sites: SpikedHumor.com , YouTube.com." Would need to be changed to something along the lines of "Reproduction of all material from this site is expressly forbidden if any information regarding its authors and tasvideos.org are removed." Then on published movie page there should be a link to the youtube video. Bittorrent should remain because I don't see a way to DL the original file from youtube and quality might be lacking. Also maybe in the submit there could be an option to allow the author to choose if they would prefer it to be allowed on youtube or not. The youtube user taipion has been doing a good job uploading our videos with proper credit given (although not permsission), so if we go with this he just needs to keep doing what he is doing. Ultimately the decision is Bisqwit's, but he probably likes to hear people's opinions so all thoughts welcome (and thank you for people who have given their opinion already).

The user that stole the SMW video has also stolen SMB and SMB3. But I think that this guy is actually not doing it on purpose. I think he is seeing the videos somewhere else and where ever that is they removed the watermarks. The reason is he does not claim it as his own, and he doesn't even understand how they were made ("probably cheats, but still cool - in description"). Is the SMB the most recent version, or whos is it? Anyways ignorance is not an excuse so I will still try to get them removed.

One thing that concerns be about changing this statement, "Reproduction of all material from this site is expressly forbidden for the following sites: SpikedHumor.com , YouTube.com." Is that it allowed you to easily remove stolen videos. I'll have to look into policy and stuff to determine if it is changed if we would still be able to remove stolen videos [as easily].

JXQ, sorry I didn't see your topic sooner (only looked in sites forum). You obviously don't like YouTube, but do you feel it would be good or bad to have our videos there (in an organized fashion)?

There have been some problems with our work being ripped off and posted at sites like YouTube. I think these sites, if used properly, could become a great asset to tasvideos.org. Every movie page states "Reproduction of all material from this site is expressly forbidden for the following sites: SpikedHumor.com , YouTube.com." However nearly 100 of our videos are posted at YouTube, and getting far more views than they do here. This isn't really a problem, so much as a lost oppurtunity. The problem is that sometimes the videos are stripped of information crediting the author(s) and referring to tasvideos.org. I see no reason to specifically name sites, instead we should be prohibiting stripping this information. Now days it looks like the encoders know of this problem and put the tasvideos.org information in more than just the beginning so it is harder to discreetly remove. I propose we upload every newly published video onto YouTube to ensure that it is done properly. We should also link or embed the YouTube version from the published movie page, because it is so much easier and faster to use than bittorrent. From every YouTube vid we should also link back to tasvideos ofcourse. I am not sure if the same quality can be stored on YouTube, but if it can, bittorrent would not be needed anymore, I see no reason to get rid of it yet though. We should have one YouTube account do all the uploading so it is all in the same spot on YouTube, if no one wants to do this I'll gladly do it. It is probably a good idea to give examples as I go, but I don't like the clutter so here are some examples. YouTube views // tasvideos.org bittorrent downloads. 44862 + 7531 // 14700 The Legend of Zelda by phil 4034 // 1150 Castlevania: Circle of the Moon by ogreslayer 273826 // ~15000 Super Mario World by flagitious and viper (obsolete) 37561 // 3581 Super Mario World by JXQ 103534 // 5482 Super Mario Bros. 2 (JPN/FDS) by phil and genisto As you can see videos on YouTube get way more views than at this site. There is great potential to bring in new users. My example of a movie that was stripped of author / tasvideos information 273826 // ~15000 Super Mario World by flagitious and viper http://youtube.com/watch?v=OTW6m-MvwSE There is no reference to tasvideos, me or viper anywhere in the description or movie. The closest we get is, "This guy pulls off some shat...." That is 270,000 potential new viewers and users who could easily help contribute to and enjoy many other videos at this site. I am going to attempt to get YouTube to either remove this video or add information linking to tasvideos. Ok so back to the point, shall we start a new policy of uploading all vids to YouTube and linking to them from the published page (in addition to having bittorrent)?

On a somewhat unrelated note there is a problem when trying to go to http://tasvideos.org/jsgames/peterbox/ it gives the trailing slash missing error and if you follow the correction it takes you to http://tasvideos.org/jsgames/peterbox// with the same error.
