I don't know about variances in damage and whatnot, but I wrote a general comparison review a year or two ago here. I tried to be pretty detailed and the response was good. http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=11067

Whatever's wrong with it, it's so far the most accurate PC Engine emulation code. It's too bad it's so hard to work with.

Again, no time (and not enough patience) to bust a TAS of my own, but Splash Lake could be an interesting TAS. It's an action puzzler. It's a bit long (there are lots of levels), but with TAS accuracy some could be knocked out pretty quickly. You peck cracks in tiles with your beak, and when a section of floor is completely disconnected/isolated, it falls into the water, taking enemies (and you, if you're not careful) with it. To clear all the levels you have to dunk all the baddies. Some baddies take multiple dunks (they climb back out of the water) and some later enemies can peck tiles themselves (could make for some interesting AI manipulation). Each level also has a hidden fruit if you peck the right pedestal. The game also has advanced/hard levels. This means one run could be done for the base levels and a later run for 100% completion including the hard levels and hidden fruit. MOD EDIT: The name of the game is a bit better topic name don't you think?

I concur. This could be a very interesting title to TAS, except for one major complication, the need to earn money and build XP. If someone can figure out a good way to game that it could be fantastic. There is risk the end result could, instead, be a real chore, though.

If it's as simple as renaming the file then it should be super-simple to allow PCEjin to open files with the ISO extension just as easily as those with the BIN extension.

I request CUE/ISO support in the next revision of PCEjin. The BIN format can be hard to find and the only software I can find to convert ISO files to BIN files is pay software. Since ISO is a more open standard, I think it would be appropriate to include support for them.

I know this to be a kick-ass game, if a bit slow in places due to the need to kill all the enemies in some areas. Still, the animation is fantastic and I'll bet it looks damn good TASed on-screen.

Only 3 fights... Glaghghghghg so much talking... so much flying around by spaceship... The run seems to bypass vast portions of the game, but god it's SOOOOO boring...

Rather than obsoleting, maybe there could be an icon or flag, like the star for starred runs, that indicates that it is known the run can be improved but simply hasn't been. Maybe a ripe fruit icon indicating the run is ripe for obsolescence. This, too, would preserve the history. It's just one extra metadata element/field in a database.

This game is long enough, and the tactics repetitive enough, that I think the 2 player run should be completely about glitch exploitation and entertainment. As long as you are abusing the hell out of the game and it's fun to watch I'm sure you'll get a shot. On this one, however, I have to vote "meh". For all the skill involved it just gets old really quickly.

Thanks, Toothache, for a great TAS, and RadioKJ, for the initial YouTube encode that allowed me to watch it. I vote yes. The game's a little slow and there doesn't appear to be much room for abuse, but it's still a solid TAS.

I shall await an encode. Many thanks to whoever throws one up on YT or DM.

It appears jumping adds just a tiny spot of lag, so as boring as walking is it's probably best for speed. I think this version is much better than the GB version. Music is actually quite close to the arcade.

The abuse of the doors on the helicopter was lots of fun to watch. People flying out the door in mid-air from being knee'd.

The NES version was VERY different from the arcade original, whereas this PCE version is much closer to the arcade. Oddly, both the NES and PCE versions are better and more fun (IMO), in their own ways, than the arcade. The later GBA port owes a lot to the PCE version, I think. Can't wait for an encode.

A fantastic run of my favorite Castlevania game. You must have a lot of time off lately, arukado.

Congrats on a much improved run! It looks like there might be some places to shave time, but this is certainly worthy of being accepted as is.

I believe Sega Saturn TASing is currently possible. Look into Rayman's compatibility with the current TAS-capable Saturn emulator.

I am still very interested in seeing a polished run. I have been absent from most of my game-related forum memberships due to graduation looming and the workload associated with that. Also, I have a sucky work schedule.

The game may appear "sucky", or whatever, but it's actually a really fun game to play. It's just less fun to watch TAS style. And as I've played the game a lot, on hardware and emulated, I can say that this TAS is pretty good. It's not perfect, but it is well-thought and well-implemented, and I think this is a fine addition to the TAS collection here. I certainly hope it interests others to try and improve on it. Legendary Axe 2 might get more fans of the actual game, though, that's for sure.

I defy your oppressive turtle rules and offer, instead, an ambiguous promise of possible future turtle-age, should the mood strike and a turtle be handy.

I've noticed this SNES version has some lag going on. Does the Genesis version suffer from this lag also?

I have already tried this and it worked for me (with a little patience) where the .mc2 MednafenRR didn't. Great work!

Oh, indeed. This is an excellent game to TAS, especially 2-player. I look forward to your results.

I don't have time to implement this idea right now, though if nobody jumps on it I might some time down the road. Aero Blasters is relatively unique among shooters in that the 2PS (2 Players Simultaneous) mode there are additional techniques available to use to defeat enemies. Ordinarily your ship has an upgradeable main weapon, one of a selection of subweapons weapons (fires simultaneously with your main weapon), and the ability to charge a weak screen blast (with a cool-down cycle) just powerful enough to kill weak enemies and destroy bullets. 2 player mode gives you the ability to not only mix up subweapons but also perform special attacks. If both players charge their screen blast and release at exactly the same time the blast is powered up significantly and will do vastly more damage, enough to kill most regular enemies and deal not insignificant damage to bosses. If both players charge up and hit fire simultaneously (instead of merely releasing) electrical discharge races from both ships to meet at the midpoint between them and lingers briefly, dealing heavy damage to anything caught in the wake. The timing for human players is so persnickety, however, as to render both of these enhanced techniques largely worthless. I discovered, when I was a kid, that I could play both ships with a single controller and thus use the super-charged screen blast. Didn't help with the electrical attack, however, since both ships were invariably right on top of each other. This game does have a hard mode which is enabled via a code, and some of the special weapon behavior would lend it to some fun tricks. There are two homing missiles, the red one doing more damage and being less maneuverable and the green one doing less damage and more maneuverable. But it's not that simple. The green missile can turn and seek in directions other than forward, but the turn radius kinda sucks. The red missile can only go forward, but it can move up and down quite rapidly in the process. Even during normal play the red missile will sometimes lock on to a fast-moving enemy and crazily swing up and down the screen at high speed trying to track it where the green missile would have just made a wide turn and flown off screen. Either way, I think this shooter could be quite fun as an exhibition piece and is an excellent showpiece for the TG-16/PCE in the process.
