Regarding 3D Battles of World Runner: I actually like the 2D version better. There's too many weird visuals after the 3D conversion. For example, the pole hopping just looks like he's crashing straight through them instead of hopping off the tops of the poles. The boss fights are also wonky with background sometimes appearing in front of the boss/player sprites. To put it simply, it's actually harder to follow what's going on in the 3D conversion.
I completely agree. There are actually other issues. Some objects move in all three dimensions so it's almost impossible to assign correct 3d position to them. Pseudo 3D games are always very hard to 3dify.

Not sure what do you want to know but because the TASes are long so i did speed up the emulator quite a bit while recording the videos.

I’d like to see this being played back. [3690] NES The 3-D Battles of WorldRunner by DrD2k9 & EZGames69 in 18:00.64 What better way to test a 3D emulator with a 3D game?
Sorry but bk2 and fcm only. I will find another TAS of 3D World Runner. PS: actually many fm movies can be played back by a fceumm core

3DNes have just added two new cores Bizhawk and Fceumm so it's able to playback most of fcm and bk2 TAS movies. And thanks to TAS movies from now on nes game will be painlessly converted to 3D. In this thread, i would like to give a big "THANK YOU" to TAS community and present TAS movies rerecorded in 3DNes with the optimized 3d profiles. First movie is a HappyLee's work on Super Mario Game. Original Movie link: http://tasvideos.org/2964S.html Link to video

Very impressive. How long did it take to make though?
It take 2-3 days for the author and one day of me - the editor. In total this is 3-4 days of work.

Sorry i don't have any sense of art, just a coder. That's why i can create the tool (texture editor), but couldn't create a new texture with better quality compared to the default one.

The art style in your example doesn't match. Manually modeling for every 3d shape is a huge work. I can't even imagine the amount of work required to 3difify a game like Contra. If it hurts your eye, you can always decrease the light intensity.

This game doesn't really split the image. In fact it produces one image for the left eye then one for the right eye frame per frame. This is an old obsolete low quality tech. I don't have the cyan/red filter glasses to check the effect 🙂. But the vr headset will produce far greater result, that's for sure and 3DNes supports VR headset. I put the bar on top with a single lua line of code 🙂

So what happens when you use the 3D effect that the game already provides with 3DNES?
What do you mean by "3D effect"? In the end after every frame, 3DNes has a list of 2D shapes which are projections of 3D one. It then has to figure out what the 3D shape looks like, what its position and orientation is. If the camera projection is a "complex perspective" one like in World Runner case then we need a small script to calculate the shape position and orientation in 3D space. If you mean something like the 2d character shadow, there is a option to show/hide a given shape (the 2d shadow is a 2d shape by itself) so by disabling it we can remove the "original 3D effect".
