I've forgotten to paste this minor trick for a long time. http://youtu.be/3P9E59_6Hgk This probably can be used with all DS Castlevania games.

Sounds interesting, I'll watch the Albus NG+ run later. By the way, there is a test run of Albus NG (not my work). http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm9817697 http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10025620 http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10364437 I'm not sure if he's still working on this game.

snc has already made several improvements. They look great. http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10936764 http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10979768 I think snc had better to: - cancel the submission, if he plans more improvements. - otherwise, replace the submission movie. (note: in this case, you don't need to cancel this submission. Ask the site admin instead.) What do you think?

I discovered that Volaticus allows me to go into the wall with some limited situations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niNo5WRA3Ng 1. At the moment, zipping only works right to left. 2. To go into the wall, Shanoa must be on plain ground, not slope or whatever.

Is it so much faster to get hit by the boss?
First of all, thank you for watching my WIP. I get damage from Arthroverta to kill him fast. In particular, - To slash Arthroverta just after MP refill. - To avoid using Magnes: saves 5 MP. (also it might allow me to begin recovering MP faster) At the moment, I personally don't worry about getting damage in the boss battles, and I rather prefer to kill them faster. Therefore, I will miss some boss medals intentionally.

Enable "Advanced Bus-Level Timing" in Emulation Setting dialog. Those sync settings are written in DSM, but DeSmuME just ignores most of them, so you need to set appropriate setting by yourself.

Did he post a route/tactics you could translate?
Edit: Yeah, a lot. I translated some of them roughly, here it is. http://pastebin.ca/1874674 Edit 2: He has posted his final route. http://pastebin.ca/1876646 Edit 3: He modified the final route a little. http://pastebin.ca/1877565 One major mistake you (and me in Test TAS) made: You definitely don't need to get the second Blow/Wind rings, because you don't need to "equip" it actually. If you wish, you can write a comment in the page below. The player (こ~いち, koichi) will probably notice when there's a message. http://pukiwiki.a.la9.jp/ubawareshi/?%A5%B2%A1%BC%A5%E0%C6%E2%BB%FE%B4%D6%A3%D4%A3%C1

I haven't watched the run. However, I know a part of your improvements, and it deserves a yes vote enough, so I've already voted yes. I'll watch the run probably on this weekend.

About Eligor, FreezerBurns is right. You can do it in real-time enough. Edit: I recommend not to equip Tower Ring when you try it, because it will cut your invulnerable time half off (100 -> 50 frames).
FreezerBurns wrote:
Also, would getting the Mercury Boots speed it up any?
AFAIK, The effect of Mercury Boots is applied to walk only. It doesn't change the speed of backdash, Rapidus, dive kick, etc. I doubt whether it saves time. Anyway, thank you for your advice.

Finished a sloppy run. It completes the game in 41:44.86 (ingame = 0:38:54). part1: http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm8303388 (mirror: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjF-kEwJBKw + http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1eQXjnBY88) part2: http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10581985 part3: http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10601773 part4: http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10664897 DSM is placed at http://code.google.com/p/gocha-tas/ Edit: I used a release candidate build of 0.9.6 for this run. When you begin playing the movie, don't forget to turn "Advanced Bus Timing" on. Like PoR test run, it contains a lot of unoptimized parts, redundant parts, and mistakes, etc. Anyway, enjoy. Is there any way to lure Stella closer to the ground so you can use the dart attack down there and she doesn't have as fall to far once you beat her?
I'm not sure. I haven't thought about her falling time, good view.
Derakon wrote:
Why didn't you do as much team-switching in the room in portrait 4 with the Treant and tombstones? Does it create too much lag or something?
Yeah, because of lag, I tried a few of different movements in that room. After all, they were not so different though.

Is it possible to manipulate the attacks Death uses so he doesn't use the horizontal slash or the dive attack?
I guess it's possible to make Death to do more or less horizontal slashes. For now, I can say nothing more than that.

at the beginning of the second part on nicovideo, you're doing some additional shopping, right after taking a detour to get more money. Looks like the detour can be avoided.
Yeah, both that detour and shopping can be avoided (merged). That's one of obviously redundant parts.
Tub wrote:
Purify can be cast faster when charlotte is the active character. It takes some luck to survive the cast and still have both sisters in effect range, but wouldn't it be faster?
That might be, thanks. I didn't know she can cast a spell faster when she is active. No, Charlotte casts a spell in the same speed whether she is active or not (at least, for Sanctuary). Look at 020fcc1c if you want to verify it by yourself.

One thing you didn't do, for example, is use the Axe special attack to skip pushing the train at the beginning of 13th Street.
Thank you, I didn't know that. In this run, I used Katar to perform octuple jump, so I could use that here too :p

I've worked on a suspend glitchless run of the game for a week, and I've finished it now. http://portraitofruin.googlecode.com/svn-history/r263/trunk/Drafts/PoR-NOOB-SloppyTest.dsm Encodes: http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10156246 http://dic.nicovideo.jp/v/sm10200666 Since this work has started as a test run with no particular plans, you might find a bunch of unoptimized movements, mistakes, and possibly improvable strategies, in the run. (I didn't even aim for frame-perfect movement at some points). However, I aimed to make it entertaining enough. If you recommend submitting the run to the site, I probably will later. Major Mistakes / Improvable Things
  • Wait Cube room: Jonathan obviously can push a statue faster than Charlotte. There is even no need to push a statue
  • Buy Knife to perform partner switch jumping faster
  • (Do Dart boost)
  • After getting the doublejump ability, we can move faster than partner switch dash, by backdash-doublejump-kick movement (just like AoS!)
  • Saving is needed to use Magical Ticket. However, there is no need to reset :/
  • (Wrong selection in the long item-selling part)
  • Obtaining Moonwalker in City of Haze (and give it to Jonathan) will save time
  • There is no need to enter a warp room in Nation of Fools
  • Train in 13th Street can be skipped by the special attack of Katar (thanks Satoryu)
  • I guess we can skip one more wing attack of True Dracula. I haven't tried that yet though
  • There might be more things I forgot to note...
Suggestions about general strategy are welcome (especially about better equips) Enjoy.
