this is the most amazing glitch-out i have seen on tasvideos since inichi's chrono trigger run. wow. i am in awe. wow, wow... wow. that said -- the picture of balloons is nice, but i was hoping for a port of king's quest iii. ;) and finally, how soon could we get this thing console verified??? =D (yes vote, obviously!)

Pointlessly casting a NO vote after the fact because I really just do not understand how this quintessentially abysmal game that virtually no one has ever played or would ever seriously want to play is worthy of publication, even at vault tier.

As pointed out by the nerd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz92prJ3XlM (skip to 20:30) the Japanese-only Super Back To The Future II looks pretty awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0kdKbKcUUo

It seems impossible to define a simple goal when "winning" is subjective, so can this really be judged as anything other than a playaround? I'm voting no (even as a playaround) mainly because of the drawn-out (no pun intended) memory games.

lol I think this is both the funniest and strongest argument against publication, that one could easily beat this TAS in real-time. That said, I'm pretty sure that the submission is not meant to be taken seriously... so voting meh.

I remember getting owned by this game on the last stage, then flipping out and throwing the controller across the room. I think the run looks great, I enjoyed watching it, yes vote.

To think I used to waste time actually collecting the level 1 emeralds. Totally awesome, yes vote, despite lacking a wrong warp to Ganon's castle.

If hard resets are allowed then i don't see why opening the disc tray wouldn't be allowed.
I agree - I think that if we allow a player to arbitrarily hit the reset button during a TAS, then we should allow the disc tray to be arbitrarily ejected. As far as I'm concerned, while playing, you can arbitrarily rip the game out of the console, drop it in orange juice, and then put it back in (arbitrarily), if that gets you to end sooner.

I kind of feel the same. this ending doesn’t feel like an ending, it just makes me go “what?” after having watched mostly boring movements, if it was possible to do this without wasting any movement then maybe I’d find it entertaining, but like this it just feels like a cheap way to summon a screen that’s supposed to make you think you beat the game.
IMO it's entertaining enough (and the game is popular enough) for this to be published as a new branch, but I think it'd really be a tragedy if it replaced the existing run.

I've always loved this game, and have played through it many times (mostly whilst home from school sick). Would love to see a walkathon branch... HA, no. Yes vote of course.

From reading the above posts, my impression is that this run simply refrains from using a particular glitch that - to an untrained eye - resembles another glitch that IS still exploited. I haven't watched it yet, but I think my vote will really depend on whether I, a TAS layperson, would agree with Derakon that the omitted glitch substantially changes the run. And I don't mind that the emeralds weren't collected.

Essentially, given the nature of the genre, and holding this up as a specific example, I don't think that classic adventure games are suited for speedrunning in any traditional sense.
pshah, I vote yes because IMO the scenes that happen slowly enough to be comprehended are amusing, the run is quite short, and I'd bet most who have played this game would appreciate the TAS. I also pointlessly vote yes on King's Quest V, which, I would like to note, garnered 83% "yes", but was rejected anyway. I consider a run of SQ4 to be more entertaining than KQ5 (though I personally liked both), and really hope this one makes it through, and that we avoid setting a general precedent concerning classic adventure games.

"Thank you Mario, for taking your sweet freakin time getting here, I really appreciate the effort you put into walking casually to Bowser's castle to save me. It's nice to know that the next time I get kidnapped and put in a dungeon by a giant fire-breathing lizard, I can count on you strutting along at a leisurely pace to rescue me... dick." I vote yes and think it wouldn't be unreasonable to make a new walkathon+warpless branch, in lieu of obsoleting the warped version.

This is actually a pretty big problem with the game - I had no idea how fast it was, before TASing it. The problem is, it is CPU throttled, i.e. it runs as fast as your CPU will let it.
If that's the case, how exactly do we determine what the actual length of the run is?
This is really the only thing about the run that bothers me. Maybe we should call it "Megaman on Crack". Under the current settings, the run moves along at ludicrous speed, to the point that it's hard to follow what's going on, and is almost comedic. That aside, I really don't have any complaints; I think that for a DOS game, the visuals are acceptable, and the near-continuous action combined with the run's very short duration makes it a clear yes vote from me.

I think this may be particularly applicable to discouraged TASers: Link to video ** I just watched it again and noticed what happens to that poor guy's bike at the end (in the woods), and spat my food on my monitor

This has got to be the blandest RPG in the history of RPGs. It's like they took the generic RPG formula and added a pitiful amount of embellishment and innovation. I was strongly tempted to vote no, but then remembered that the author is an admin, so... ;) No but seriously, I had to vote no for game choice, sorry DarkKobold. IMHO, the game just lacks substantial entertainment value, even with the aid of your tricks (I didn't think that intentionally taking damage gave it much of a boost). The technical quality of the run is clearly quite high, but I just can't vote yes on technical merit alone.
