23 is a certainty. Though you should not have collected the pink brinstar missile pack if aiming for realtime.

Yeah, it will be special. Don't be misled by other people who try to tell you the otherwise without ever seeing my run.
doesn't it have several obsoleted room strategies? What is special about an un-published, obsoleted run?
Yes, it is very out of date by today's standards. In fact, his new any% demo that got leaked a few weeks ago is also out of date. There have been countless new room strategies since he started his original run a few years ago. I would be hard pressed to call it special, but maybe he has a few things in the run which have yet to be discovered. I cannot even think of a reason for him to post the original run, since he started a new one anyway. I am also a bit disappointed to hear that Saturn lied to moozooh about something as petty as a microscopic room strategy. Who the hell is going to notice a 1 frame saving mockball? The casual viewer sure doesn't give a shit. Seasoned vets of the game might notice, but that audience consists of about 10 people. Seems like a stupid thing to lie about.

Is the RBO run going to be in-game oriented? The trick used to kill the cactus earlier causes ~30 frame realtime delay due to the door scrolling. The trick only saves 4 in-game frames. Do you plan on using the pause glitch to avoid death at 00 health? It would radically alter the route.

It seems like they will be going with the route I outlined many pages ago, as opposed to the route Saturn used. I only came to this conclusion because the reserve tank was not collected. It would be awesome if they went for the any% run instead though :P The run seems full of new and interesting stuff. Thanks for posting it. Quick question. In the big green room with the blue gate, it is possible to get a third damage boost off the bug in the third tube (right before the gate). Did you know about this? Maybe the way you guys did it was faster, but I figured I would ask.

If you got the epoch on the first visit to the future, you could just go directly to the dark ages and tell the woman to plant the tree. You wouldn't even have to advance the plot up to getting robo. Any reason not to do this?

very nice movie so far, was0x. I am pretty sure it was mentioned somewhere on this thread that it was actually faster to fight booster than to avoid him in the curtain game. Keep up the great work.

Can the pause menu skip trick be used to gain access to the epoch early on, kinda like how he unlocked the pyramid with the swallow in it early?

I have been scouring the game for any tricks for the new 100% run. This one seemed pretty cool, so I figured I would post it. It's probably not much faster than the old method, but it looks awesome. yo

I think that the test run is of high enough quality to be published. It sure beats the hell out of my run. It should obsolete it, then a 3rd category can be made for the extremely glitched out run.

Doesn't the green dream disappear on a new game+ file? I thought that event based items did not carry over. With the leveling up being obsolete now, this run is going to be amazing.

that's awesome. Were all 3 frames saved from just skipping the floor bombing? All these little improvement make me want to make another any% run :P Hopefully saturn finishes sometime within this decade, or I might have to make a v3 run.

I am not sure why, but the movie stopped playing right before getting to the final boss. As for the run itself, pure excellence. Like mmbossman, I too give this a 9/9.

1. This one seems interesting, could be faster if it worked. We are well past that point though. I will try and time this one. 2. It would save energy, but the time loss using that tech is pretty substantial. 3. I used this in my recently published any% run. It's the same speed as normal walljumping.

ICheatAtGolf, I think I know what you are talking about, but if you wouldn't mind posting a .smv it would be appreciated.

The movie played fine for me up until the 4th stage boss, and then desync. It seemed to be well played, and was fairly entertaining up to that point. I'll vote yes. I am sure this run would have gotten more attention if Snes9x was used. ZSNES has better emulation quality, but for TAS making/playback it is a pain. A shame really.

Has anyone else ever noticed the variable jump heights when combined with speed booster? Seems like a stupid quirk in the game's programming. Anyone have an explanation for this? Run and jump Run for 1 frame longer, then jump Notice how the first jump is considerably higher.

Taco, that red brinstar is about the same speed as this, except this one doesn't lose a missile or take damage. I am pretty sure you knew about this before anyway. What is the benefit of using the other method?

hey Saturn, You are working on the any% real time run, correct? How far along are you now? It would be nice to know how much time you have saved over my run so far. I have a strong feeling that the 23 minute mark can be reached.

I think this is a decent game to run. It certainly has that monopoly feel to it. Even a bot would have trouble finding the most optimal way to play this game. Yes vote.

None of us (besides saturn) have ever hidden a trick with the knowledge that it would be useful in someone else's run. Hence he is the only one who is bagged on. We don't plan on posting a wip. If we found something that would be useful for anyone else's run, we would post that trick specifically, but not the entire run. Like superjupi said, just sit tight ;)

35 is far from possible, unless aiming exclusively for in-game time. Even with some serious pause screen abuse, I still couldn't see a 35 being possible. Heck, even the 36 was going to be a stretch until Saturn showed this new trick.

Well that is a pretty sweet trick you got there Saturn. It looks much cleaner than the murder beam. I am kinda torn on it though, because it kinda ruins the greatest piece of cinema ever put into a video game. Using it would also eliminate the awesome new zebetite with screw attack skip. If the 36 is unreachable without this, then it clearly should be used. If the 36 is reachable without this trick, then it's use is debatable. I was really aiming to keep the entire run pause menu free :(
