nope, never went to '16. just stayed on '17 for a full two frames. I even check using the memory watcher to see if the game frame count actually incremented, and it did. I will edit this later with screenshots. Maybe it is just me, but it is strange anyway.

awesome :) It seems that either you already achieved the 49'15", but due to randomness it is now 49'14". Alternatively, if there is still another frame that can be gained somewhere, a 49'17" might even be possible. I watched the .smv and it seems that the counter went 49'19 49'17 49'17 49'14 which is very strange behavior for the clock.

Yes it is pretty clear by now that my run is out of date. I made all the strategies myself, which at the time were all groundbreaking. Did you even bother to notice how old this run is? And yes it does aim for fastest time...don't try to be smart. 99% of the games on this site can be improved in some way. I don't care about your "methods".

The timer would be 49"12'... I always knew that the time Saturn described was the result of a Technical change (or trick), not simply optimization. The most optimized run would not have even got 49"15' unless the runner knew about this obscure little quirk in the game's mechanics. Though I have to admit that the 2 frames Taco found in the final room were the result of optimization. Since 3 frames have now been accounted for, there are only 2 remaining to achieve the "15 timer. Well done Taco. Saturn: I hope you do start your RBO run again, it really was an impressive concept and looked great based on your music videos. I think a great deal of stuff has been discovered since your started your run, so a brand new run would be even more impressive.

Like Dromiceius, I too think this game has some potential for TASing. I had even thought of doing it myself a while back. If I may ask, why don't you use Snes9x? ZSNES lacks the customization and some of the features found in Snes9x.

great game choice. Certainly entertaining enough to warrant a yes vote. Too bad you finish the first level so quickly, I love that music :P

Was the levitation trick I discovered a few years ago no use to you? Was it actually slower to use that trick to cross the water? This is kinda surprising to me. Anywho the run looks great so far. I am happy to see you working on this game now. I love the improvements you made to the X games, now this game will see the same upgrade :)

I apologize if I misunderstand what you are saying moozooh. Let me try this hypothetical scenario. I could go into guardia forest and fight 1,000 battles, by the time I get to Yakra I could kill him in like 10 seconds. It would change the strategy altogether. By the same token in a "skip filled run" he would skip all the mandatory battles in guardia forest, but he would also skip Yakra himself. Now if he skipped the battles in gaurdia forest and chose to fight Yakra for a demo movie, he would be weaker than than if he chose to do the fights in Guardia forest. The Yakra battle would be slower in this case. It is for this reason that the movie must be either "skips everything" or "skips nothing".

inichi, I strongly agree with your position. Don't feel bad if anyone says anything negative about your choice. This is your game and your run, you should always do what you feel is best. It will be published regardless. moozooh, that idea wouldn't work due to continuity changes. Example, if he skipped a battle he would be less experienced (less techs, weaker characters) also he would avoid picking up good items. So including the skipped battles would be too arbitrary. Who would decided at what level and with what items he would be allowed to fight the bosses (even for demo purposes)?

I know exactly what you are talking about :) I have made many test runs through that room a few months ago. Unfortunately the only way to clear the entire room with a CWJ is to increase Samus' speed by a lot, but with too much speed the CWJ becomes impossible. The alternative is to run at a slower speed, thus making the CWJ possible, but with such slow speed it is impossible to clear the entire room. I would be very amazed if someone managed to gain full running speed and still pull off the CWJ on the bottom ledge.

Well, I don't have any real concrete ideas. Here are some of the things I was thinking of; either of the side staircases (shown in the 120 star run to work, though with very limited speed), possible banister straddling, messing around with toad, pillars with the coins straddling. Probably all dumb ideas anyway :)

you are correct Halamantariel, I was talking about getting into bowser 1. I suspect that there is at least 1 or 2 spots in the lobby that would allow for enough BLJs to get into bowser 1 without the lobby glitch.

I wasn't talking about the staircase, rather the edge where the staircase meets the upper floor.

I wonder why Mario would call him king, it's not like he ever pledged allegiance to him. Can anyone tell me why the 2nd Bowser door can be bypassed with a BLJ from the mini staircase, but the 1st Bowser door cannot use the main lobby staircase for the same purpose?

I strongly agree with Bob A. Using the glitch only when it is deemed more entertaining is just too subjective. I for one don't really mind watching the cut scenes, but if you are gonna cut them out you might as well cut out everything else too.

microstorage finally started working for me.. Crazy stuff you have discovered inichi :) This trick seems like it can be applied to almost any situation in the game. It is a shame at the same time too, because the awesome strategies that your made for some of the boss battles will never be seen. Have you decided for sure that you will be using this trick in your run?

Good run of a kinda boring game. I suspect that further lag reduction is possible. Though the boss fights did look to have better strategies than spezzafer's. Nice to see the old run obsoleted, but overall this is a meh.

Incredible run, and certainly one of the best n64 runs on the site now. Thanks for posting all the individual level runs on youtube. Voting yes. The only thing I am surprised about is that you did not do the final 2 levels. I think it would have been better to do those levels, even if it meant the run did not end with the credits scene. I hope you incorporate them into the new run you are working on.

Thanks :) indeed this game is a never ending puzzle, where small strategic changes can happen in just about every room. I think I have found almost all of them now, but I am sure there are a few left yet undiscovered. We just need more people to think outside the box.

Saturn, Can you post a demo showing how to obtain the speed booster using zero enregy tanks? I don't know how the pause screen trick works. A 7%, NBMB, shortest run, would be awesome. It would kill 3 birds with 1 stone. P.JBoy, Where can I find your 100% speed route movie?

Very nice strategies inichi :D As for using the 1.51 version of snes9x. I managed to make a 10 minute long movie of Chrono Trigger without experiencing a desync. Apparently not every game is plagued with the desync issues. If 1.51 is more accurate to the actual snes timing, I would be all for using it. I guess more testing may be needed before we know for a fact that CT is not one of those desyncing games, since I was able to get past 10 minutes in my Super Metroid run before experiencing my first desync.

Nope, it is one if about 70 little improvements I have for my new run. An unoptimized run using this new tech saved 10 frames. I showed it to moozooh a long time ago, he confirmed it. It's kinda funny how the "fastest" methods are all slowly being obsoleted.

I am pretty sure they are collecting the ice beam, so the metroids won't be much of an issue. moozooh, I am starting to think that "7E0DBC" is the address for the X speed, not the one you used in your memory watch file. I measured pixels and everything, and this is a more accurate address.
