While the run should be accepted and obsolete the current run, the game is still a steamy pile of shit. Were it not for the precedent run, I would be against publishing this. I was not entertained at all. Having a rating lower than 5 is shit, any run with such a rating should not have been accepted in the first place. I am not a fan of the gay bear sex, but I also don't think it should have any weight when determining the fate of this submission. The submission should be judged on the quality of the run (which seemed good), and the quality of the game (which sucks balls). I am voting no, but it should still be published.

It is the Japanese equivalent to Tetris Attack. Very impressive video.

The main problem with all these words is that some of them are not recognized in the GBA game. The game is from 2001 and I am pretty sure it uses a different/dumbed-down word list. I could not play the word JUN, which is the key starting word in the strategy posted by Chamale. Though after it is figured out which words can and cannot be played, a new strategy can be developed. Since the game allows for a 1 player game and you can select your tiles manually, a TAS aiming for highest score would be ridiculously easy to make.

evilchen: I don't know if I posted this before, but this is another way of doing the pre-xray room. I haven't tested if it was faster, but it does eliminate the bomb jumping. here

Awesome run Saturn. I had some questions though. How did you shinespark out of draygon's room? Did the crystal flash followed by draygon carrying you cause the game to think you built up a shine? I see the grapple beam was very useful in this run, why don't you collect it in your RBO run? Is it possible to get out of the room after draygon without the x-ray scope climbing?

It might work to switch write modes, but is there even a toggle button for such a thing? Opening a movie in write mode allows for the states to be loaded, the problem only occurs when read only has been checked.

yes you can hex the movies together, but it is not the smartest way of creating a full run of the game. Why would you not just record all the levels together in the same smv instead of pasting them together later on?

Post subject: Snapshot inconsistent with movie

Snes9x version 1.51 keeps giving me this message upon loading a state while playing a movie "Snapshot inconsistent with movie". This severely hinders the progression of a movie because it requires that the entire run be played back in order to get back to the part where recording left off. Has anyone else experienced this problem? The states are perfectly valid and are from the movie in question, yet the message appears about 80% of the time. Any solutions?

YOSH1, To continue recording from a previous movie, play back the old movie, pause the emulator near the end of the movie (but before the movie ends). Make a saved state while the emulator is paused. Replay the movie and make sure the "read only" part of the movie playback screen is not checked. Once you start playing the movie back, reload the same saved state and you will continue recording from that point onward. PS: Start over and use snes9x 1.51 edit: beaten by Sir VG, oh well :)

I am gonna just take 2 missile packs en route to wrecked ship. I will eventually collect a third pack in the pre-wave beam room. 3 packs are the minimum to finish off the glass motherbrain without having to backtrack and refill. Other than that, missiles are almost completely useless. By timesavers, I do not mean anything major, just finding a different way to go about getting through a room. If I found anything big I would post it on the forum.

yeah moozooh is probably right, 58 seconds is gonna be a very big stretch. I have been fooling around alot lately with the game and found quite a few more little time savers to implement into my new run. There will be one less pause screen menu which alone should save 2 or 3 realtime seconds. A couple areas will benefit from the continuous walljump which will save another 4-5 seconds. A phantoon 1 round kill will save 4-5 seconds. Obvioussly the torizo skip will save 17 seconds alone. There are so many other little things which I hope will add up. Since the in-game timer will easily be 24 minutes, my motivation will be for a sub 40 minute real-time goal however unlikely it may be.

Usually arbitratry restrictions aren't that entertaining, but this restriction seems to work very well. It was like one puzzle after another, finding incredibly unique ways to finish seemingly impossible levels. Great work, this is one of the best runs I have ever seen. I think donamer was talking about the balloon being used as a power up. Also carrying yoshi underwater is the same as carrying a purple block underwater, so I could see why that would not count as a power up.

Oh, sorry to give the wrong impression, I just meant that for comparison's sake the in-game frame counter is the only accurate tool. I still plan on aiming for real time by not using the pause menu, not using gravity jumps, and not collecting excessive items. In fact my route will be identical to my old run. The in-game frame counter is just easier to use for comparing because it stops during door transitions, so for ceres it is best to use. Again, I am going for real time only. My new in-game timer will be 24 minutes by the time I finish. A 23 is impossible either way (I believe), so there isn't any need to make real-time sacrifices. Much respect to those who do aim for in-game time, I realize the history of speed running this game relied solely on the in-game timer so I can understand your stance fully. I just want to things with my own style and route, which aims for real time only.

yeah evilchen, just worry about the in-game frame counter. It is the best way of accurately comparing two runs using two different emulator versions. Try to match the frame counts of JXQ's run, which he conveniently placed online: http://bisqwit.iki.fi/jutut/jxq-smetroidv2.html Also if you want to compare to my current run, I will post what I have so far. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/753717835/Version%203%20any%25.smv

Thanks evilchen, I plan on making a new music video when I finish my new run. I know you have done some work with JXQ's movie and produced some pretty cool music videos. here are my new rooms (1.51): Ridley>1 = 00'59"87 (2412 ingame frames) 1>2 = 00'58"25 (2509) 2>3 = 00'56"51 (2613) intentionally lost 1 frame to JXQ for better steam 3>4 = 00'53"71 (2781) intentioanlly lost 3 frames to JXQ for perfect steam in the next room 4>5 = 00'51"74 (2899) gained 4 frames on JXQ, we are now even 5>end = 00'48"99 (same exact frame count as JXQ) So when you are working on your escape time evilchen, you should looks at JXQ's times and not the ones from my published movie. Are you using 1.51 or 1.43?

Thanks Tonski, I actually posted that music video on the music video thread (general forum). I think the song works pretty well with Super Metroid. Like moozooh said, JXQ did used the turnaround animation on all his boss doors so I knew about it already. There are lots of other little things that will be improved in my new run as well. I am looking forward to making it, but I am unhappy with my new Ceres station run. While I tied JXQ's frames for the escape, I actually managed to lose time on the escape clock. It has to do with the timing differences between 1.43 and 1.51. I guess I will just move on now, but I am really bummed that I could not get a better escape clock time. The steam really just did not work in my favor, despite my efforts.

I agree with Zurreco. Just make a single game run, the novelty of a bi-game run is wearing thin. BTW, It's RRRrrriiiidgewayceeeeerrrrrr!

laughing_gas is correct. The TAS will easily take 40 hours to make, so comparing it to a 7 hour speed run isn't relevant. I am fully capable of making the run on the J version, but like I said before it will be less enjoyable for me and the vast majority of the viewers.

Bag is correct, the candy scene will still be forced after you return from the past. I plan on using the trick anyway because Crono will be slightly more to the south end of the screen (which is the direction he is heading) after returning from the past.

That is not much of an argument Bob. Playing on the J version is a sure fire way of getting about 50% no votes. It seems like I will get some no votes either way, because some uneducated people want to compare two completely different games.

Most of the waits could have been eliminated by better energy management as well. 8 seconds is hard to gain back, don't be so quick to dismiss the possibility.

I agree with tub. Seeing a barely breathing samus navigate her way through a huge room of spikes is very impressive. Plus collecting the extra e-tank *might* be slower for real-time movie length. Of course it would be faster for in-game time, so if evilchen favors in-game time only then he has more of a reason to collect it.

I know the previous run was really optimized, this is a pretty incredible improvement. Quick and entertaining=easy yes vote. Excellent job comicalflop.
