I am certain I will be slower than inichi overall. My old run had pretty much the same strategies (there are a couple exceptions) as inichi up until the magus battle. My old run was 4 minutes slower than inichi at that point. Even with a couple new strategies, my new run will still be roughly 3 minutes slower than inichi up to the magus battle.

Okay, so I was working on the new CT run today when a horrible realization occurred. The the run on the SDA cannot be beaten with the (U) rom. It is 100% impossible. I am roughly 10 minutes into the the new run, right after the part when lucca tells crono about marle being the descendant of queen leene. Up to that point I was making great efforts to optimize the run as much as possible. When I make the comparison to inichi's run, I was over 20 seconds BEHIND!!! 20 seconds behind an un-assisted run, within just 10 minutes of gameplay. So I decided to make a little test to see just how much the text speed really affects the length of the run. I made a short demo on both the (J) and (U) version of the run to get a more accurate comparison between the two. What took 52 seconds to play on the (J) version took 56 seconds to play on the (U) version, mind you not all of this time was even dialog. roughly 4-5 seconds are lost within every minute of gameplay using the (U) version. According to my calculations, my currently published run would have been 20 minutes faster using the (J) version. Possibly more when you consider how much dialog occurred in the end portion of the game. This is staggering. Should I even finish the run now? It will still be significantly slower than inichi's run. Ignorant people will always compare my run to his despite the version difference.

Very nice run. All the vertical levels were really entertaining. The horizontal levels in this game are long and boring, though there isn't much you could do about that. Boss fights in particular were awesome. I wonder if you could have saved time by skipping the arrow upgrades altogether. voting yes.

evilchen, Since this is only a test run, you should not go back and redo it from the save point. You could just finish the run and test it yourself when you get to tourian to see if the new method works. If it doesn't work at least you can still perform the original method, because you have already used the save point.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't trying to imply that you were ripping on Americans, you are a good guy. I apologize if you thought I was making my statement towards you. I know many people do it only in a joking manner. Unfortunately there are many people who truly believe that American citizens are somehow less intelligent than the bulk of the world, which is a very unpleasant stereotype. The videos do tend to give the impression that all Americans are morons. I mean really isn't the title of that video just a tad derogatory, "Canadians Laughing At Stupid Americans". Followed by users comments such as "all americans are idiots" or "america sucks". I am an American and I have never felt the need to put down another country.

You are saying that many non-US citizens feel inferior to the United States, so they harness their aggression on internet chatrooms/forums? I too suspected that, but I hate to think that there are people in the world who are so jealous of a single country that they spend all their free time bashing on it.

I sincerely hope none of you take those anti-American videos seriously. These videos aren't even remotely funny. I see so many foolish assholes who rip on the United States for no good reason. It isn't like it would be difficult for someone to go to any country and find less educated people to interview, why is it always America?. I am not saying that anyone here bashes America, but people on youtube seem to do it frequently and I find it kind of insulting.

awesome job evilchen! I really liked what I have seen thus far. You are using the route I posted before, correct? I would strongly advise against collecting the ice beam. You should keep this as low% as possible, plus the time is takes to collect the ice beam will really ruin the flow of the run. Taking out the metroid with power bombs is pretty easy anyway. If you can find a way to refill your power bombs after performing the crystal flash, you can avoid collecting the 3rd power bomb pack and this would become a 9% run. Like moozooh said, the best way to get through the huge spike room is to use the ripper for damage boosts. You will have to wait a long time for it to get into position, but I have done it myself using no energy tanks so I know it is possible. Also, I am not sure that you have to die in the room below the save room. I thought the first death could be anywhere, or you could reset the game. I seem to recall that only the second death matters for where samus dies.

Coincidentally I am actually one of the graphic artists over on the emutalk forums (which is where these hi rez packs are made). I am also the person who designed the 1964 emulator homepage. My name is "sick deal" on those forums. I also used to keep in contact with the authors of 1964 and PJ64, but lately the entire emutalk community has been on a decline. Anyway, all this does apply to using high resolution textures for movies. First of all, 99% of the textures packs made for the n64 games are being produced by total amateurs and really look worse than the original game textures themselves. Secondly there is no consistency between many on the textures used in a pack. many of the idiots over there simply grab images off google or from other texture packs. There are only 2 high resolution texture packs that were ever even finished. There is a pack that makes Ocarina of Time looks like a cel shaded version, and there was a Mario Kart 64 pack that was pretty well made also. Other than these 2 packs, there is not another pack that fully retextures a game. There are some packs that were started and never finished, so it wouldn't make any sense to use them for a TAS movie because the game would be half original textures and half new textures. Each game consists of thousands upon thousands of textures, which explains why many authors failed to complete their texture packages. Also I agree 100% with what Foda said. Even if there was a perfect high resolution pack for a specific game, it still should not be used for the reasons he stated. Lets keep em the way they were originally designed.

Legendary movie! An improvement upon one of my favorite runs on the site can only equal a yes vote +star.

I don't know if this had been brought up before, but when you restart your run I would *strongly* suggest using Snes9x1.51. It fixes the horrible looking mode 7 bug that was present in Snes9x1.43. Here is a comparison screen which shows the difference. Note the bricks in the background on both the top and bottom of the screen. http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=comparisonkm9.jpg

I would still suggest that you finish and submit your current run. I am quite sure it will be published, and it gives people something to watch while the new run is made.

Ventuz is correct, the zebetite skip is only for Super Metroid. I could have frozen the rinkas and stood on them to fire at the Mother Brain, but it is the same speed as jumping and firing. There is a weapon cool down period before you are allowed to fire again, and the mother brain has a small invincibility period. I chose not to freeze and stand on the rinkas because I wanted the fight to be visually different than the published run.

No TASer has touched this game for a very long time. It is unlikely that a competition will occur for it. Competitions are usually for incredibly short games; monopoly, DK, DK jr., maybe even SMB. That is to say that an improvement of this run wouldn't make much sense until the full potential of the reverse door entry is realized. The possibility of skipping other vital sections of the game may even be possible one day, but would require massive testing due to the fact that you can't see samus while she is in the background of the game.

Damn that glover is adorable. Run looked well played, but wasn't incredibly exciting. Though if I had played the game before, I would probably appreciate it more. There was just enough action for me to give it a yes vote. Nice job adelikat.

It isn't a matter of class, it is a personal choice of the author for who he wants to thank (if anyone at all). I will add your name to the submission text. Please end the discussion here.

Do you seek my approval or something, or what are you so touchy about?
Excuse me while I laugh out loud. The bug trick was something incredibly obvious. You just happened to be one person who mentioned it *here*. I remember someone else talking about it on the M2K2 forum or it may have been the GameFaqs forum. By no means did you discover the glitch. I justed quoted you because you were the one who mentioned the trick on this forum. You seem to think this run should be done for you and only the way you want it. You got upset when I said I would not be using the trick to appear under the ledge. Do you have any idea how much work goes into a TAS? By the time CtrlAltDestroy told me about it, I was way too far into the run. You tell me I should just start over to save 20-30 frames. Never once did you say a positive thing to me, so why exactly should I be thanking you? Anyways, no hard feelings. Just remember these runs aren't produced solely for Spider-Waffle's pleasure.

What did you contribute? I would gladly add it to the submission text. Just clarify it please. Also that trick (which CtrlAltDestroy found 3 days before you mentioned it) doesn't save 2 seconds. I don't know where you pulled that figure from. And would it be that difficult to say something positive about the run rather than complain? I didn't have to make the run at all.

Thanks Zoizite :) I did the run suited because I thought the sprite looked better than the suitless one. I didn't realize so many other people preferred it as well.
