Congratulations dude. All your hard work has really paid off. This is one masterpiece of a run! Yes vote, plus a star please.
Screenshot opinions:
53663 - Really like this one. Love the symmetry here. Lots going on.
95700 - The smoke trail above samus says it all. Love it.
95818 - 3 blue samus', one of which sits inside an explosion. Very nice shot indeed.
129201 - Kinda bland. Not a huge fan even though it shows off one of the tricks I found, lol.
145618 - Same as above. This shot could be from a standard SM speed run.
148705 - This one is really cool. I love the bloodshot draygon eye starring backwards at his impending doom!
184017 - I am not a huge fan of this one.
184240 - Not crazy about this one either.

I don't have access to my computer right now, so I can't give an exact number. I have a spreadsheet which lays out all the probabilities of getting the lottery event to occur. Getting the amount is a different beast all on its own. I simply tested every lottery event until I hit the 100k payout. I know that that payouts can vary from 10k all the way up to 100k, at intervals of 10k iirc. I'll try to get the sheet up soon, which will better explanation things.

Great description. Thanks for the quick publish guys.
I am still writing up my notes on the run. I will edit my submission text when that is complete with a breakdown of how luck manipulation and event manipulation works in this game.

FractalFusion,
I think I found out why it is desyncing. Can you please test out the run again with the following setting disabled:
Under file/movie > disable bind save states to movie and automatically backup movies
Under config/enable > disable all settings
I found that doing this allowed me to sync the run with the emulator after deleting my config file.
For those who can't get it to sync, I posted the run on youtube temporarily:

Very nice dude. It looks really good now.
This got me thinking. Would it actually be faster to get the missile pack after taking out draygon? This would allow you to use the grapple beam to get high speed into the gauntlet room when exiting the missile room. The only downside here would be that you cannot press the run button, but upon thinking about it, you wouldn't be pressing the run button at anytime anyway.

Here is another way of handling the norfair gaunlet using the pseudo screw attack. If this is going to be used, one would need to calculate for the extra damage being taken here when preparing for the crystal flash in the GT room.

Can anyone explain why the end time on the below video displays the final timer as minutes/seconds instead of the usual hours/minutes? Maybe I missed something obvious here, but I cannot figure this out and it is driving me nuts.

More importantly is why they should wait until after ridley. The xray scope for will definitely be done well before ridley, now that we have super short charge plus spike combo which allows a shinespark towards xray.

Wow. that's awesome news! You guys should make a very effective team. Do you plan on giving periodic updates here, or will this be more of a surprise submission? The peer review process can usually find little improvements here an there, but either way I am just glad to hear that the run is getting attention.

If using 1 super missile on the red door would save the 2 hp needed to do the damage boost in the bubble room, I would say that it might just be worth doing the damage boost.

I just watched the updated run.
I was wondering if it may have been better to do 2 rounds of pipe bugs in the first visit, and use the Rtank in between the rounds. This would allow for perfect luck manipulation on the 2nd round. Maybe you did this when you used the rtank on the speedbooster escape, so sorry if that is the case.
I am also unsure if the slow downs in the wave area were necessary. You have enough health to run through it, so slowing for to get the big E did not seem needed. I also think that since you will have the wave beam for croco, super missiles are not as important and 1 could have been spared here to open the door faster.
You also missed a huge damage boost when leaving the speed booster area. This saves over half a second, and the time saved should save enough HP from the heat to be almost equal to the cost of the damage boost.

CP,
I just ran a quick test on that smv you posted. If you land on the spikes and damage boost towards the missile pack, it is actually about 8 frames faster. Also, you can plant the PB right above the missile pack and the blast radius will clear the blocks.
Based on the bizhawk file you posted above, I don't see why you would need to get the missile pack early.
Dessyreqt,
Thank you for posting your smv's and detailed spreadsheet. Your route suggestion really intrigues me. I will take a look through all the smv's to see where most of the gains are being generated.

If it really takes that long, then kraid early may be the better option if it is decided to keep the charge/wave beams. If I recall, when I timed them both, doing the kraid detour later in the game was faster than doing the early pbs in red brinstar. I will need to check on the exact times again to see how they stack up against the 15+ seconds it costs to do varialess norfair.

I am having trouble understanding where any time would be saved by going down blue brinstar. To me it seems that every room would be a wash with the exception that you would need to fall down the old tourian escape shaft 2 additional times, which would add a ridiculous amount of time to the run. Also, not having the screw attack for blue brinstar is way worse than not having the screw attack for pink brinstar. I could be wrong though, so if you wouldn't mind, can you explain in greater detail where time would be saved?
As for the ice beam, I can only think of 1-2 places where it would save time. Of course as you mention, the spring ball area is the biggest. Again in this case, I cannot see how the cost of doing the ice speed gate room twice is less than the time saved having the ice beam early.

I don't remember if it was ever timed. Though in my view, I don't see how it could be slower to get it early. When you consider that there is less travel from the missile to the center of the room as compared from the missile to the left hand door.

Maybe the trick where you press left and right rapidly while the red block below get blown away, which allows you to reach maximum falling speed without needing to jump?

Yeah that is what I was gonna say. It would be 1 more pause screen, but would save a huge chunk of in-game time. 2 pause screens total by my count, which really isn't bad at all.
I just watched the run so far, and I am amazed as usual with how you can produce so quickly and achieve such a high level of optimization at the same time.
