Thats a great idea ventuz, I think it would really come in handy for identifying what each address coresponds to. I found the address for ememy HP in Chrono Trigger and rewatched my entire run, it was cool seeing the actually amount of health the bosses had when the fight started. This new watch feature will make all future runs way easier, because you can now actully see how much health your emeies have left and choose your attack based on it.

Nice run so far Graveworm. I think you can save yourself alot of effort and testing by turboing the A and B buttons alternatively while scrolling though text. That way a button to advance the text is pressed at every single frame. Also do you intend to use the restart sequence? because it would probaly be faster to restart right after you get your sword.

Yes your movie does look more awsome than mine, but I still think both movies can be improved at the boss fight. I dont know why but I think genisto defeats it faster.

I was working on contra a couple weeks ago but stopped because I had trouble optmizing the level1 boss. I go into the base (disappear) at 4084 frames, which is 1 frame faster than you blublu. While I am sure that the level was played faster than genisto's, I am not sure if my boss fight was as quick. Without a frame counter on famtasia it is very difficult to compare movies. Here is what I had done so far: Right here Edit: Now that Randil timed it, I know that my boss fight can be improved.

I dont think this run will be published if I ever finished it. Its get very repetative after a few holes, and there are 54 holes in all. There is a run of another golf game in submissions, and it doesnt seem like it will be published. If you wanted to take over from where I left off, you can use my movie for the U.S. course and finish the other courses yourself.

Your Welcome DonamerDragon! This was a very very well made run, and is a great improvement compared to my run. I am happy to see my run get improved by this much because it had some obvious flaws in it anyways. This is for sure a yes vote, but there are several things you could have done to save a bit more time. 1. Getting the cure spell before bone dungeon would have shortened the fight with the bone dragon. Cure does more damage to him than the bombs do. 2. Putting the secondary character on Automatic will save several frames per battle, I found that you can put tristam on automatic thoughout the entire bone dungeon and he will always attack the way you want him to. 3. This was a big one. In my movie I dicovered a way to get infinite seeds from the old lady in windia. However this trick CAN be done in fireburg too. You can buy seeds in fireburg and never have to worry about getting more ever again. 4. Jumping over the barrel after getting the cure spell should be faster than walking around it. 5. I do not know this for sure, but supoosedly you can use the cure spell on the Dark King twice as long as you use a different attack for a couple rounds inbetween. 6. Also I dont know for sure, but it may have been possible to manipulate pazuzu to appear on the top floor right when you enter the tower, thus eliminating the need to talk to him on the third floor. All in all these improvements would not add up to that much time anyways. I am very impressed with your luck manipulation throughout the game. Your rerecord count shows just how much testing is needed when trying to manipulate effectivly. I actually tried to redo my movie, but got burnt out trying to manipulate everying better. And now that this run has been made, there is no reason for me to try making a new one :) Very nice run, Yes vote.

hmm, I considered doing clashman after getting the rushjet. Clashman's weakness is the airshooter, but it only does 2 damage per hit. This makes clashman the best starting robot master because the difference between his weakness and regular shots is only 1 hp. Using leaf shield make the airman battle considerably shorter becuase it does 6 damage per hit. This run is probably just a test run anyways, if it turns out that rushjet saves that much time during clashman's stage, I will do airman first.

I didn't see any topic for this game so I made a new thread. I think this game may be considered the black sheep of the GB megaman games for it's lousy controls and music. Anyways I have started to make a movie, my progress can be found here: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/720/rockmovie_herooftheday.vbm

The U.S. Course is now complete. I will do all three courses like you guys suggest, so just 36 more holes to go. The movie so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/674/NES%20Open%20Tournament%20Golf%20%28U%29.fcm

The first 7 holes are now complete. All par 3s are hole-in-ones, all par4s are eagles, and all par 5s are albatrosses. The 8th hole may present a challenge because it is too long to reach the pin in two shots, which means I may get an eagle instead of an albatross. Does anyone know if TAS of this game would have to include the U.K. and Japanese courses, or would a run through of the U.S. course be good enough? Heres the run so far: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/669/NES%20Open%20Tournament%20Golf%20%28U%29.fcm

I think this game would make for a great TAS. The graphics are better than any other golf simulation on the NES and it stars Mario, whats not to love. I am currently working on this game and have the first two holes of the U.S. course complete. I am wondering if anyone else shares my enthusiasm for this game, do you think it will be accepted or is this too boring of a game for a TAS? http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/663/NES%20Open%20Tournament%20Golf%20%28U%29.fcm

You sure have made a name for yourself in the past few months JXQ. This is an excellent run, and it helps bring back memories of all the stages we miss in a warp whistle run. Easy yes vote from me, and I look forward to your Super Metroid run.

So whats your next project hero of the day? Are you through with RPG games or as you have proven quite strongly that RPG games is indeed your specialty and will run more of "those" games?
Well I would like to eventually improve my Mystic Quest speed run, but there are a few games I might do before that. Two games which I think really should be on this site are Metroid II and Link's Awakening DX. I have already started to work on Link's Awakening, and using the quit restart sequence it should make for a good speed run. I am going away for a week, but after I get back I will try to post some progress.

to magic bag of food: I would compare lavos' time shifts to critical hits, they cannot be changed and Like Saturn says they are predetermiend before the battled begins. Yet every battle with lavos will have a different order, depending on other factors. to Saturn: I forget all about crying heavens, it is indeed the strongest magic attack :) and your right he doesnt attack me with that or the lavos pimp slap, both of which do some heavy damage.

actually I am not 100% sure why he lowered he defense but I too think having both allies dead plays a part in it. the Lavos core's attacks are determined by what time period he warps to. you can tell what time period it is by looking at the background image. I do not think the time warps occur in any particular order, and I do not think they can be manipulated either. I believe the attack you described is called dreamless and it is the strongest magic attack in the game. I forget which time period it occurs in. Without the wall ring equiped on magus this attack would do 2x the damage you see in the video.

yea desyncs for me too at kraid using improvement7 edit: the newest movie doesnt desync but the first one did. Looks great Saturn, you managed to pull off alot of precise tricks and this is only 12 minutes slower than the multi segmented world record. Seeing this run really makes me want to see a 100% TAS of this fine game.

Actually there was alot of trial and error in this particular battle. sometimes after an attack he would cure himself and if he did I would rerecord and do a different attack, or I would have chrono heal a party member which would alter the imps actions as well. It would be interesting to see if this can be replicated on a console, if someone was to copy all my actions identically.

The thing is that when I turbo the A button I can press the fast foward key. It would have taken many hours to go through each line of text and press A at the exact frame. I don't think this is an issue for such a long movie. And about using the Japanese version of the game. I believe tilus mentioned in the Chrono Trigger thread that the Japanese version had several different programming changes which actually cost a bit of time.

Holding the A button does not advance the text. I wish it did, because turboing the A button misses the first frame for advancing about 50% of the time. The time loss is not more than a couple seconds, which for a 4+ hour movie isn't much. If I cast lighting on the first golem the counter attack is not strong enough to kill all my party members in one hit. It would require two attacks, and the time spent casting lightning with chrono wouldn't be worth it.

was that time in game or real time? either way it is an awsome time for 100% item collection. I would watch the smv if you uploaded it.

well luckily I can answer all your questions: -cyclone does only 1-3 points of damage and the animation takes longer than just a regular hit. I was able to pull out a few critical hits at the end which would negate the need for doing 1 point of damage. -manipulating the shadow requires waiting for a certain amount of frames. At that point in the fight the wait for another shadow attack was many seconds. Lighting just happened to be next in line and since I had a character capable of lightning there was no reason not to use it. Magus switched to his second attack mode after two lighting hits, and therefore healing was not an issue. -Funny you mention this, because this tactic was pulled directly from tilus' run. Basically the golem twins will mimic your attacks, and if you attack with the faclon hit they will copy you and attack with a one hit kill. So to counterbalance this, I attack with lightning 2 and they copy that instead. It buys me just enough time to pull out a hypno wave, which makes them completely harmless. Oh and casting hyno wave twice in a row was done because if I attacked after the first hyno wave one of the golems will not go back to sleep when I cast another hyno wave. For some reason casting it twice made them both go to sleep after the next attack. It looks wierd but it works.

I am working on it right now and am at Nizbel already. I am a few minutes ahead of my test run and at this rate the final run should be at least 10 minutes faster that the test run. If I don't encounter any unexpected problems this run may be done by the weekend.

1. Interesting, I will look into that because I thought I used the claw as soon as any grapple point was in range. 2. Weapons cannot be switched until you are at a complete stop. I think the only time you can switch weapons during battle it when you are giving the commands, not during the attack animations. 3. Good point, when I cured him a second time it would heal him. I will have to look into this. 4. Yea it sucked 5. Not to sure which enemies are weak to the claw, but I don’t think it would save any time unless I found a boss which could be one hit killed and I don’t think there is any. Thanks for the comments
