Much like wat Zurreco said, it's a great run. I didn't expect you could find such a zipping glitch. But congratulations! However, I still wonder whether it can be faster by manipulating more flashing meat when you fought tyrosauruses to get the warted body earlier.

The true amazing improvement is that you exploited the frame rule of the mushroom spawn in 4-1 in order to maintain your momentum. 4-4 is due to your better luck with the boss than mine (he was jumping to the worse direction for me), which is likely to depend on an in-game timer. So it was actually your 4-1 improvement that saved time here. The wall jump in 5-1 has been expected for a long time. However, I'd like to make clear that, in fact, you didn't gain any 1-frame with "a better flagpole glitch/whatever", but instead you gained most of them thanks to the new acceleration trick carried over from smb1, for which you should give credit to me specially ;)

Good job. How did you make 2 seconds faster?
You may conclude that the lower the enemy blobs are manipulated to get, the faster the game will advance to the next stage.

Still, I think taking damage to save time would be better... Anyhow, please keep at it!

Nice job! I wasn't expecting this to be particularly entertaining, but I was impressed by how much dodging there was of the blue blobs (is that the one named Nuts?). I only wish there were more walljumps. Also, I could swear I've seen that type of little helicopter in Alex Kidd in Shinobi World. One question, though. In stage 39, you are on the left side of the stage when you start moving right to get the last fruit. At this point, you're pretty close to the house. Why didn't you climb up to the house and jump along the top path? Instead, you fell down a little and crossed to the right on a lower path, which looked like it used more climbing.
Oops, you are right. I thought the extra wall-jumps required to jump up there, as well as to climb up long ladders would make it slower, but actually it is faster, since those two baddies can be manipulated to go to better positions from where they will fall into water. Yes, the game waits for them to drow before you can go to the next stage, which is pretty annoying. I surprisingly "missed" a wall-jump on the short ladder in Stage 45 too, which must be due to bad savestate usage. And I could have manipulated the evil blob(s) better in Stage 4, 7, 16. Here I made a revision exactly two seconds faster . I'll PM some admins once again. :P

My TASed AoS boss rush was in less than 42 seconds (in game), if I recall correctly.

I came up with this question when I was TASing some old non-sidescroll games. Some of them allow you to edit a certain level (usually the first one) and play through it, then proceed onto the following original ones. Therefore, you can create new shortcuts in that level at will. However, it can be argued that a level editor is something like a password to skip to a special level, or even an unlocked debug mode. Generally, we don't use passwords or debug modes. So I'd like to ask: Is it acceptable to use an in-game level editor to modify a game level and play through that level and the others? Is that compatible with "warpless" and/or "no password"?

@Yrr: Uh, well, it's good news to know you're still working on it. @moozooh: I made those two (glitched and unglitched) bossrush TASes (in case the "WR" word is misleading). Unfortunately, I left them on an abandoned computer. According to pirate_sephiroth, someone seemed to manage to get and encode some of my bossrush movies, and upload the videos onto some video sites. I don't remember who I shared my movies with and/or when, though.

The funny thing is, the 8-2 in this movie was faster than the published warps, he noticed and fixed it. That also means this whole time, Happy Lee had improved 8-2 compared to the warps, and didn't know it (nor did anyone else notice).
That the Piranha Plant to the right side of the big pit tries to kill Mario is why the warp run is supposed to have a slower 8-2 than the warpless run. And the requirement of saved frames to bust the frame rule was a bit too strict as it was stated one year ago: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=174507#174507

Lol, I don't recall much about this game. It's been a long time. EDIT: Lol again. All three of us use white & black avatars.

This can be a timing bug: 1. Check Graphics->PAL. 2. Open a 60Hz ROM. 3. Uncheck Graphics->PAL. Now the game runs faster than usual. The frame rate is much higher than 60Hz.

I'm sorry that I come back a little too late with the demo: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/248003297/HappyLee4-SMB1walkathon-possible-improvement.fcm EDIT: This is unoptimized, people shouldn't copy & paste it onto their own movies.

According to my knowledge, there are a few mis-named ROMs. Some are using unofficial names while there're official ones available, some others are just using misspelt or mistranslated names.
