Weird fix. I may have discovered a bug. When I was watching the Power Blade movie, I tried to tap "R" and the movie restarted but desynced. I tried this many times and the movie desynced every time. It even stopped once.

Awesome Great Armor fight! I'll vote Yes just for this! BTW, people say that I may have some secret projects on this game, since I knew that 1 game can have more than 3 movies. ;)

I hope you are still working on it. I meyself haven't been working on it recently, though.

It just leads to some guy pressing forward for a couple thousand frames.
I agree that.

@HappyLee: Are you providing the ROM image directly? That is not allowed here.

I suspect this run can be improved, but I am not sure. Maybe you should try harder in 8-2 to perform the flagpole-stuck glitch. Yes vote because "I liked watching this movie".

Yes vote. This movie will be published soon, even before your full run can.

Maybe my published smb2j run can prove you wrong.... Thanks for explaining the positioning.

The fight against Graham is pretty long... how much would collecting one more boss orb boost Julius' attack by? if it close to doubles your damage it may be worth trying to kill an extra boss first (least out of the way would be the hippogriph, I believe).
IIRC, hippogriph is absent from this game. There are 3 possible alternatives: to beat Manticore/Big Golem/Death and get 1 more powerup. However according to some tests none would be faster since they are too far away or simply too slow to kill (Death is).

Also, in that fight, if the cross can connect multiple times it may be better to use it once or twice in the first phase to cut out that last teleport (you were only one hit away from avoiding it).
I think so. o_O

Also, the fact that you get hit three times in the last fight is a bit of a letdown, is the getting hit animation really faster than flat out avoiding the attack? alternatively you could save magic for these sections and throw axes while crouching, or using the cross crash (makes you invincible, right?). Of course, that applies only if those suggestions are in fact faster... also, is the dual arm attack not manipulateable in any way? It didn't seem to follow from a pattern of X single arm attacks to 1 dual arm attack...
Maybe. The biggest problem I see is there will be more than 3 categories of AoS submissions. Will the 3-categories-rule be break when the "all souls run" gets submitted? EDIT: Oh Yes vote! EDIT2: I didn't answer all the questions.

Thank you. I am not so interested in smb1 walkthons, but I think you made a great run and you should be proud of it.

I think v19 GBx core is better than v20 GBx core for movie recording despite of the bad timing. v20 GBx core is very buggy.

It was caused by the codes in arm-new.h and thumb.h shown below:
#ifndef FINAL_VERSION
  if(armNextPC == stop) {
    armNextPC++;
  }
#endif
When I built the Debug Version, the Macro FINAL_VERSION was not defined, and these codes were compiled, which caused one frame's delay in the intro. I am wondering whether it is correct, with or without these codes? I can't download the source code of VBAM via SVN. Every time the request just times out. o_O EDIT: I really don't like MFC, so I am looking for something to replace it with. Is wxWidgets a good idea? Or is this thought just to reinvent wheels? EDIT2: Now I realized how crappy my ISP is.

It turns out that you will have to wait for me to complete my run if you want to compare yours with it. Since I have been distracted by many other projects, this one seems to be delayed for long. EDIT: No, don't wait for me once you complete your movie. My movie is unlikely to come out in 3 years.

Not exactly. It sometimes automatically turns itself off everytime I try to record a movie, and sometimes never turns itself off. o_O EDIT: I hacked the v20 source just now, and what I succeeded in was just screwing up GBx emulations. Now Sir VG's Castlevania Legends TAS keeps out of sync. o_O

But some games don't work with it. In that case, you have to fall back to use FCEU 0.98.15.

By recording two similar Castlevania - AoS movies, I found the cause: Desynchronized movie Synchronized movie The desynchronized one has its Lag Reduction flag mysteriously cleared by no one. In fact, I recorded both with v20! I recorded them from the same SRAM because it is the fastest way to have differences in lags. EDIT1: I am looking into the source to find the real evil now. EDIT2: more details.

I am glad to know your progress as well as help you figure out something useful. But VBARL is stealing my time, so I won't have much time to work on this. My guess on how the invincibility works is that when Merlin gets thrown by trees, his state becomes "thrown" which makes him invincible in the air, then his state becomes "lying" when he lands. The game will set his state to "vincible" only if his previous state is "getting up". And the game always sets him "standing" right after a screen/map transition. So if Merlin who is being "thrown" gets to another map before he lands, the game will set his state directly to "standing" and skips the "getting up" state, which skips the procedure setting him back to "vincible".

I am trying to merge VBAR v20 with VBAL 173, and it seems to work. However the compiling is anoying me since the source is involved in MFC.

It is disappointing that you took the same level order as before. The hope of a full run being accepted is now wiped out because it would be too similar to this run. Still Yes vote for this.

I found 9 full hearts are very close to skipping the airbubble. Just need to be 2 or 4 frames faster.... You're right that there is no heart piece in the northeast chamber in the mines. I just thought there was something red and I put a heart piece there. According to your map, the shortest route to collect all items in the hedge-maze and leave must be: Key->Rose->Heart->Bottle->Death. Tulip shouldn't be collected until you fill an empty bottle with clean water nearby, which can warp you a little closer to it. I think how many hearts can be manipulated to drop from enemy without losing too much time could be important and should be tested. And I guess using death warp to the rainbow pond is faster than going through those plants. But these days I won't have much time to do tests. Some memory addresses: 7E03D2,2u,freeze(*) 7E0F8C,2x,x pos(**) 7E0F8E,2x,y pos(**) 7E4FD4,2u,air supply 7EEDDB,1u,heart max 7EEDDE,1u,full hearts 7EEDDD,2u,total HP *note: even if this value is 0, you may be unable to move, but you are granted to attack/open menu/use items/etc. **note: I don't know if they are the actual coordinates.

Great discovery. But now I am failing to get past the guardian skipping the gem for mirror.... I'll do some research there.

you're right about the procedure, just a shame that it means that the graphics will be messy for a very long time (it'll be fixed when the balloon is first used) note also that by doing this, death-warps cannot be used until then (in the hedge-maze) since merlin is invincible
You can avoid these trouble by entering Pinedale at right frames, then no invincibility or long-term graphic errors. I updated the map with correction. I haven't decided to TAS this game because I haven't found a way to skip the air buble and I hate to revisit a place(the underground palace) too many times.
