I voted no for the same reason as OgreSlayeR. It's an interesting novelty but that's about it. It's 98% glitching to the end of the game and 2% playing. Giga's run on the other hand...

Surely we have to at least have separate categories for "uses restart" and "does not use restart".
If we did that we might as well have glitch runs and no-glitch runs. I just don't see the point for both.

Therefore, if Zoizite's movie didn't obselete Arc's, I don't see why this one did (unless it's because it's the same author).
I would guess that this is the only reason they obsoleted the current run.

Well, not as such - it's more like the fact that one uses "warps" (or some such variation) and one doesn't. The first is faster with and the second is faster without. How do you judge which is better?
Whichever one is faster? It seems like you're implying that "warps" are somehow unacceptable and I don't know why that would be the case.

Very nice. I think I noticed a few rough spots, (I could just be imagining things)
Probably the same things I see. There are a few little things here and there that could be improved but nothing that could be considered major (except maybe switching to Shadow for Wily 1 boss; not sure why I did that).

Yeah, I know. Spark is best I can do without slowing down the fight. Hard I had to go back a little to far to keep him from pausing in the air. Shadow is a pain because that Top Spin always knocks you back. Magnet was bad, too. Never did figure out what I was doing to keep him on the ground, just kept repeating until I got it right. Just kept what I got.

Hmm, not sure where you mean.

Have to jump to skip it. Otherwise you get stopped there.

I do. The only ones I get are to kill enemies that otherwise slow me down a bit. Didn't really test to see what is faster, though.

Decided it was time to just get this thing done. I've got the revisited stages done; just have Wily's Castle to do, which should be pretty quick. It will probably be another day or two.

What is the end of a movie?
The end of the movie is when the objective is completed. In the case of the Monopoly movie that is when the other player is bankrupted. Not 17 seconds before that.

I was thinking about making a similar topic because that Monopoly movie really bugged me. I was shocked when I saw a submission that was 20 seconds faster than the previous, then when I watched it it turns out it was only a couple seconds faster but he just ended the recording sooner. IMO, it's just a cheap way to shorten the length of a movie. These movies are supposed to be "fastest completion", not "fastest to reach a point where user input is no longer needed to complete the game."

Some thoughts. Just for reference, I kill Gemini Man 6 seconds faster than Sleepz, and the level as a whole 12 seconds faster. If you're looking at his video to judge how quickly he can be killed with the regular weapon, don't. It can be done better. I looked over the damage data and tried to look for another route, too. But the most important thing to determine when picking a route is to decide who can be killed fastest with the regular weapon. I saw that Top Man takes two damage per shot but I don't think he can be killed that quickly. Don't forget that he has that period of invulnerability as he crosses the screen. You will be able to get, at most, 2 or 3 shots between his passes and that's 4-6 times you will have to wait on him. I'd be very suprised if it can be done faster than I kill Gemini Man There are a couple other problems that I noticed with that route. 1. You will have to fight the Cat's in Top Man's level with just the regular weapon which is a lot slower than with Magnet. 2. You won't have Magnet to kill the parachuting robots on Shadow Man's stage. I can't remember if you will have to stop to kill them, but if you don't they will lag the hell out of the screen. Either way you'll lose a little bit of time there, too. In my dealings with the game I think there are only two levels which can even be considered first for a speed run (i.e. two bosses which can be killed quickly enough with the regular weapon), Magnet and Gemini; Magnet is faster with Jet so that leaves Gemini. I didn't test any of it though so I could be wrong, but you'll have to prove me wrong ;-) If you want to put a few levels together and compare with mine we can do that. Oh, and where are you considering using Rush Jet for Top and Shadow? I can't see anywhere where Jet would be faster.

I assume he's talking about the rules for competative gaming, right?
No, he's saying that video games themselves have rules built into them and anybody who violates them are cheaters. Which is fine if he believes that but that doesn't make it a fact. Competitions have rules. Games do not. That's what I think on the subject.

Same order. I can't see any other being faster.

I was just a little annoyed with it when I posted that. I'll probably take a break from it and get back to it sometime. I want to see it done, I just don't want to finish it ;-)

I know that improving Mega Man 3 is something that a lot of people want to see and I've been working on one for a while but right now I just don't have the time or, quite frankly, the desire to finish it. If anybody wants to try or use it for their own run then let me know and I can send it to you. From start to killing the eighth robot it's 15:46 which is 42 seconds faster than the current version.

Well, if it's at the point where he is able to estimate the final time I would think that it's almost done.

That's why I was stoked to put together an entire game run - I've never seen one. If that's a lame idea, I'll split it up.
For a site like this it should be one movie.

The second time around there were many bosses I couldn't manipulate without slowing down too much. I tried to do the level over twice but the same bosses still jumped. I don't know how to control it.
I don't think it can always be controlled. Some can be easily controlled by your other actions and others seem to be more programmed. Bright, Skull, Cossack 1, Charge (second time) are some that I wasn't able to manipulate completely to my liking. If something has a .01 chance of happening then we can make it happen but if it has a zero chance then nothing we do can change that. As much it may annoy us some things just have no chance of happening. I really enjoyed the movie, too.

I downloaded the GoofTroop smv and chose "open with" and picked the snes9x.exe (it was unpacked into a folder, of course). Snes9x started, loaded (some weird text came very fast for 5 seconds) and then just the colour of the Background changed, just black at the end and no Movie ... Also klicked on File/Movie Play ... Nothing ...
First of all you shouldn't really post this in 2 places. Second, you need the rom. You open the rom and then play the movie.

Sleepz's MM3 run is a good example of how I wouldn't like thingsto be done.
I used to think that no damage was the only way to go but oddly enough it was this run that changed my mind. One of the most important factors (at least for me) for a good movie is to be in complete control of the game. I think that taking damage when it is benefical to you only reinforces that.

I would say it definately would be longer.

kopernical: That is true, but then you have to remember than level-ups are less frequent in the US version. Not too sure how that balances out...
Why does that matter? You asked for things that could be done faster in the US version. That is one. We all know that levelling up will be slower.

You don't have to worry about losing levels when restarting so you would be able to do that a few more times as well.
