Wouldn't the US version be faster by default since it does not have disk loading?
Well, probably. I was wondering about the actual playing time, though.

Not as much as in the US version, where you pose with the item until the sound is done playing. And I'm pretty sure in both versions you can't get items as a fairy. So it's faster in the Japanese.
Heh, that's wasn't what I meant. In the US version you CAN collect the items as a fairy so you wouldn't have to go out of your way to collect the extra keys. As an added bonus there is no posing when you're the fairy. The US version would be considerably faster in this respect.

The next version will also use UP+A when it would be useful, which should save even more time.
I never even thought about that. It starts you back at the main palace, right? I would think it would save time after beating Palace 1, after getting the Hammer, and probably after Beating Palace 2 as well. All this is making me want to try a US version on VirtuaNes to see how close the times would be to each other :) The JP version would still win out but I think it would be close.

I had a look at it and so far it looks good. The fact that you have to stab the items to get them slows you down, doesn't it? In the US version you wouldn't have to go out of your way for any keys in any of the first three palaces. You don't have that luxury here, do you? One thing that I did notice is that you focused a lot on getting P-Bags when you don't really need them. As long as you reach Magic Level 5 by the beginning or early in Palace 3 and Magic Level 7 by the Great Palace all other magic level ups are meaningless. Having said that, you can force those enemies to give you red jars. It seems like you are relying entirely on level ups to refill your magic but with a little work you might find a place where forcing an enemy to drop a red jar is beneficial. Here is how that works in case you don't know. This is how I observed it in the US version and I played around with it a bit in the JP version and it seems to be the same. Every sixth small enemy (fewer than 30 exp points) will drop a 50 point P-Bag or a blue jar. Every sixth large enemy (more than 30 exp points) will drop a 200 point P-Bag or a red jar. Lastly, you may want to reconsider getting the Spell spell and the Magic Key. I know it doesn't take long but I don't see why it is necessary. If you skip the Cross I believe that you would only have to use Fairy 4 times in Palace 6. All you would need to get is one red jar after the first use of Fairy and you would be fine.

Maxed attack halfway through Death Mountain? Is this version significantly different than the US version because I don't see how that is even remotely possible. I had a look at this game before I knew about its problems in Famtasia and I had planned to get the candle. Not just because it makes it easier but killing those extra enemies is the only way to get Attack Level 4 by the end of Palace 1. I thought you just needed the eight magic containers to get the Thunder spell. I could be wrong, though. In any case I wouldn't think it would be all that difficult to avoid the invisible enemies with re-recording.

Yeah, I was overly critical of it when I sent it to you. It is in no way a bad movie. Technically speaking it every bit as good as MM4. It just feels like its missing something. That could be more about the game than the recording, though. In any case I'll be interested to hear what other people think of it.

I'd agree, it was a great video, creative and well played. I'm sure he could shave off a couple of seconds since the sliding wasn't perfect in all places (but then again, who cares?). I liked the use of the rush jet as well: just enough energy to make it through the game! Now who wants to do MM5? :P
When I started making it I wasn't planning on submitting it so I didn't really want to waste time perfecting the sliding if I would just have to redo it. But after watching it I decided that it was already pretty good, though sometime I hope to do a second version to clean it up a bit. Right now I'm looking at MM5 :) I don't know it as well as MM4 but my first impression is that is a bit more difficult (the stages, at least) and I think it will take a lot of creative usage of the weapons to get through.

This is a great video. I've been playing these old Mega Man games lately and I had a hell of time playing through parts 3 and 4. Not so much the stages, but the boss battles seemed much harder than the first two installments. But in this clip Kopernical dominates! Some of my favorite things: -Unconventional order of play, so he doesn't necessarily fight with the supposed "best" weapon.
Yep. The first thing that I did was to play each level and determine which weapons would help me get through the levels the fastest. After doing that I toyed with the order until it worked.

-Sparse shooting. This allows me to enjoy the music, and Mega Man games always have good music.
Yes, I worked very hard to make the shooting accurate. Even the couple times I used turbo I didn't waste shots.

-Uses the "special" weapons frequently and to his advantage. When I play, I'm a big pussy; I always save the big guns for the bosses. Kopernical, like Morimoto, uses them often. Very exciting use of the Ring Boomerang on Dust Man's stage and the Flash Stopper in many, many places. Also, he always has just enough weapon energy to get things done even though he NEVER collects ANY refills.
Well, I did plan it all out so I knew that I would have exactly enough Ring, Dust and Drill. I did have to collect one Ring refill, though; there was really no way around it (too many of the Cossack/Wily bosses are weak against Ring). But I did kill some extra enemies in order to run myself completely out of it by the end of the game.

-The Bright Man stage/boss battle was fantastic. I used to think B-Man was tough. Kopernical makes him look easy.
It's much easier when you slow it down :)

-Great use of the Rush Jet in many places. Bright Man, Pharaoh Man, Cossack Stage 1 and 2 especially.
Quite a bit of inspiration from Morimoto's movies here.

Yup :)

Great job man. I wish my video was this cool.
Thank for the great comments. As I was making it I was wondering if I was just wasting my time but I'm glad to hear that people are enjoying it.
