Geez, give me a second to upload... :P (I had trouble with my normal file dump, so I used the DeHacked's one for movie files that everyone seems to be using). You responded about 2 seconds after I posted. Ok, it's there now, my first movie. Anyways, I offically know how to make TOSs. It's really easy once you get the hang of it, unless you want your run to actially have some quality that is. Yes Farbian, I shamelessly stole 90% of it from you. What's really wierd is that the 100% exit run that viper did didn't use that exit. I thought it was supposed to be all exits? In my opinion some entertainment value was lost by not doing that exit.

I finally figured out why it wouldn't work, I was right clicking and saying "save target as". Anyways, I meant the secret forest of illusion exit you fool!

I guess I'll see if I'm fit to make Mario TOSs then... Damn, I've figured out how frame advance works, but I can only get the arrow keys to register while paused, not the jump key or anything. Making help topic... (unless someone here anwsers it first that is)

That actually might be a really fun challenge. If there are plenty of levels that are almost impossible but we figure out a way, that would be awesome to watch. As long as we don't have to use the hopping glitch of course!
What so when you said this you just thought it would be fun to torture people. It's not fair to be like "wow, check out all the almost impossible awesome tricks we could do!" and "it would be really run to do this", and then not do it.

I think the rush to Bowser-run isn't for us, I'm going to leave it to jimsfriend.
But I don't want to have to wait a month :(

Which level do you mean? Cheese Bridge Area, taking you to Star World 3 (via Soda Lake)? Or the fortress in Forest of Illusion, taking you to Star World 4? The other reason I keep asking for a straight to bowser run, is that I keep hoping something will come up (and it does look like stuff is coming up) that will make it so you can't necessarily go straight to bowser using the normal path, and I'm interested to see what kind of path you would have to take. Trying not to multipost too much: It's looking like the final products will be: First option: *Collects no powerups or other aids (ie Yoshi and switch palaces) *Hoping glitch unused to preserve author's sanity *Aims for fastest time with the above restrictions Second option: *Never collects feather, [Yoshi?], [Switch palace?], [Powerups?] *Hoping glitch unused to preserve author's sanity *Aims to complete all levels (runs which complete extra levels obsolete previous runs regardless of time) at maximum speed with the above restrictions.

Unfortunately I think the fast route to Bowser is quite boring in SDW so I'm not sure if this run would be the best idea if someone decided to make a SMW/SDW capeless run. My opinion is that SDW is a much much better game than SMW though, so I'd rank a "full" SDW run first, then full SMW, minimal SDW and least interesting is minimal SMW. That's my opinion anyway.
I agree with you on that, a full SDW run would be best. I just keep advocating a partial one first, because a full SDW TOS would take about a month, and segments from the partial SDW run could be hex edited in to the full run anyway. The partial run wasn't really intended to be as entertaining as possible, but as an experiment so we could see how the creators and watchers reacted to this new kind of run before plunging ourselves into an extended project.

This was mentioned, and a video was posted in a previous post on this topic. So, a super demo world capeless run... how about it eh?

There's a VINE for the big boo exit?! (ok fine I probably knew that, but I haven't thought about that in years)
ROFL. Ok, now seriously, is anybody going to do this thing? It's looking to me like the answer is probably not... So SMW is out, but we haven't yet talked about a capeless TOS for Super Demo World. I personally think that would be very interesting.

Oh, I see now. I never knew there was a vine for the big boo exit... I also see how a jump there might be possible. <smacks self>

For SMW, right off the top of my head Donut Ghost House Secret Exit can't be done without a cape. Unless you uncover something really really wierd.
So here you say it can't be done.

Why not? Yoshi double jump up to DP1 secret exit. Beat Big Boo and you are in Star World. So what part of this did I miss out on?
Here you say you need Yoshi.

Why do you need Yoshi in the haunted house? You can already jump high enough to reach the big boo fight. There still must be something I am missing.
Here you say it's easy. You got me all confused -.-

You're right jimsfriend. I think some people still are a little confused about what the exact goals for this would be.
The rules are simple, beat bowser in as little time as possible without ever acquiring the cape/feather. Flair would be nice, but is strictly optional.

You can't bring Yoshi into the haunted houses, in the same way you can't use him in castles. They have that intro screen.

Going straight to bowser. However, more levels will be played then in a usual SMW straight to bowser time attack, because the starworld won't be immediately accessible.

How can you have a movie file of just a specific level anyway? Don't you need to do it from the beginning?

Farbian, when I try to play your file it says "file is in wrong format" Yes I am using the modified SNES9x, etc.

It's like the regular SMW speed run, except you can't use the cape. The purpose is increased challenge, and increased entertainment.

Oh ya, and jumping off of Yoshi is not an option for the ghost house, it makes you dismount Yoshi in the same way the castles do. This means that a capeless entrance to starworld will be almost impossible in the first world (but then again, almost impossible things are supposed to be your speciality), and the second entrance to starworld is almost impossible as well, unless you hit the blue switch. It looks like entering starworld from world 5 without the cape just might be possible (you would have to spin jump off the blade). Not only that, but looking at the level from a Lunar Magic perspective, getting to the secret exit without the cape would make an AMAZING video.

My original intention was for this to be a as fast as possible run (as few exits as possible without using the cape). A 120 exit version would be interesting, but a shorter version should be tried first to see if it's really worth putting all that time and effort into a 120 exit version.

Hello, I'm a big fan of TASs, especially Mario ones, and more particularly super Mario world TASs. I've seen all of the super Mario world, and super demo world TLC TASs, and as amazing as they are, I've noticed a point where the movie slows down, during levels where it's possible for the speed runner to simply fly over. Of course the speed runner tries to make these moments as entertaining as possible by bumping in to a bunch of people, but they still end up simply flying over most of the hazards. It would be fascinating if someone were to attempt to do a speed run without ever getting the feather/cape, not only would this require Mario to really get down and do all those amazing jumps and dodges we love so very very much, but it would make pathing much more complicated, as some of the the entrances to starword and secret paths wouldn't be easily accessible. I'm not quite sure yet how Yoshi wings would affect this, and whether or not they should be restricted to. So what do you people think of this idea? Would it be permissible as a separate record in the same way warps and no warps runs are separated? Is anyone willing to try such a thing? (Perhaps this could be the first speed run to utilize double Yoshi jumps for getting to high places.) Added from later post for clarification: My original intention was for this to be a as fast as possible run (as few exits as possible without using the cape). A 120 exit version would be interesting, but a shorter version should be tried first to see if it's really worth putting all that time and effort into a 120 exit version.

Awesome movie. Now I must criticize. Is it just me, or could water world 2 have been completed a good deal sooner. I did the level without any rerecords, and after dying twice my speed was only 11 7 seconds slower then yours. Maybe try waiting for the first dolphin to get closer or something... I dunno.

On my beautiful windows lappy, I checked the "use WIP1 timing" button. Now it works. Thanks people.
