I would like to see these games (Adventures) as TAS's: Beyond Oasis (The Story of Thor) Landstalker Shining and the Darkness Shining Force
Look at My page for non-serious attempts :P I might be interested doing Beyond Oasis, since the sequel in Saturn is among my favourite games and I'm speedrunning it once in a while. My current record is 1:13:03 but with saving more often I'm able to squeeze it under 70mins. Yeah, I was talking about Story of Thor 2 for Saturn... :/ First I would like to complete improved SoT2 I was talking about and maybe Rings of Power if I find time. I'm sorry to be more oriented to speedrunning for my own fun than entertaining you with precise TASs.

On the subject of Shining In the Darkness, I did some preliminary research some time back and found the fastest way to manipulate when fights occured was to bang against walls (which causes the black border around the screen to flash red). Very annoying.
I did my own TAS of this game and, sadly for you, it was not serious. Just like all my TAS's are not :) Grab a file here

I agree that 4:15 sounds like a possible TAS time. I haven't watched the SDA speedrun yet, but skipping normal enemies and finding a leveling-up place somewhere might bring a good result. Speed Spin Badge is a must after 1st chapter. Unavoidable battles could be passed either by killing enemies fast with items like Shooting Star or scaring away with Fright Jar. In Dry Dry Outpost there's a magician behind boxes in alley (can't remember name) who grants powers for Mario once in a while in battles, increase damage or experience gained. I don't know if it happens only once in three turns or is it random. Maybe it depends on how much you pay her? I have just recently started playing for first time and only final battle awaits.

I think this is a platformer everyone should complete, but the game hasn't got popularity it deserves. Great work Aqfaq! Perhaps no one else could have done this well the first TAS of this game. Don't count my try :)

Aqfaq, are you sure the beginning can't be done more quickly? Or does the next screen after beginning depend on in what frame you enter the screen. Here's my test input which is 3 frames faster: 00:19-00:20 start 01:22-01:23 start 01:25-01:26 start 07:07-07:08 c 12:08-12:09 c 13:03-13:04 c 18:10-18:11 c 20:29-20:30 c 20:32-20:33 down 21:26-23:50 right But after I get the coins for 18 gold, I have to wait lots of frames before the snakes change the item they give from heart to 2 gold and I'm messed. edit: What I really mean is that, from where it is counted when 2 gold coins can be got from snakes. From beginning of the game or from beginning of the 2nd screen (snakes).

I tried few weeks ago too. Not going to be interesting because it's mostly fighting. You take two-three hits in a battle and rest after 5 or so battles. But because it's one of those harder Genesis games it would be nice to see played 'perfectly'. I remember my friends advancing easily to a point where you were in some kind of "worm room" which was too difficult.

Game completed in 2:21:14. Nifboy can maybe squeeze 5 minutes off or even more if he knows secret shortcuts. Where I lost much time: Crossroads to and back from Water Shrine - 5s Heart collected at the end of Water Shrine - 16s! Magic Sword - 54s! (Recharged strike is two times stronger, big deal?) Statue of Gaia in Thieves Hideout - 26s (Why did I get this?) Not getting Golden Statue in Lake Shrine - 10-13s Lantern in King Nole's Palace - 7s Those alone add up to two minutes of pure mistakes! Another few minutes can be achieved in improved fights. You can tell me if you see other obvious mistakes.

I don't know how much it's gonna still take to finish this game, but I don't think sub 2 hours is possible. Not very far either. Nifboy, do you try to do a serious TAS-attempt when I'm finished? If I have time, I can perhaps finish in two days.

If you watch my video, where do I have to go after Verla Mines and Thunder Sword? Gamefaqs' guide wasn't very clear about this.

Okay, but it could save time also later after Greenmaze transport. I'm new to this game so I don't know yet how much it can save.

If this Tibor is near Mercator's gate, I can't get it work. Can you edit my video to show it?

Greenmaze was easy, but without teleport tree I lost about 45 seconds while walking all the way to Ryuuma. According to Gamefaqs' guide "Tibor" quest could be done before entering Mercator, but I couldn't. Does it require talking to someone before.

I would like to see this progress, but wrong ROM-version doesn't allow me to do so. I have two legal game carts and I'm not asking if anyone could PM me a way of getting the correct ROM... ?:/

MaTO: Good lord, 45 minutes just to get to Mercator? I know it can be trimmed down by a few minutes, but good lord.
Only by leaving the last heart when leaving Water Palace + not getting the Magic Sword? Or is there anything else?

I've made a little if you want to watch. Here edit: Again, this is not real "time-attack". I just want to play the game through.

:) But my intention is not to submit movies, so I don't have to play that accurately. I just play for my own fun.

Yep, it's complete. The last boss could be done few seconds faster, MAYBE.

Finished 1P with 20:58. If someone watches the video and thinks there's some room for improvement, I'd gladly like to know it. The health bars to bonus points in the end of levels go like this: <9 bars = optimal 9 bars = +33 frames 9+ bars = +33 +(40*each bar over 9) With full health you lose about 4 seconds in the end of the level. Oh, and when you get hit, you lose 2 health bars (-80 frames in the end) and you are stunned for 32 frames. Better have those shuriken or fireballs circling around you at that time if there are enemies to be killed.

A 100% kill means a lot slower "time-attack". Weapons spawn in order, in 2-2, for example, the second weapon you get is flame, which is most powerful against the snake boss. So, I have to wait and kill only one flock of birds before last flock. I'll update my gmv-file so it's easier to understand. After the snake 1P mode is already 46 seconds ahead of 2P mode.

I had to try too :) First I started with medium difficulty and played really well the first stages. Then I remembered this topic and had to restart with expert mode. I have no skill to play 2P simultaneously, so it's harder and not as entertaining as your 2P playing. But because of lag in 2P I was 1498 frames ahead after 1st boss. I think you can reduce your stage times if you don't shoot as much explosive bombs. And if you have 5 or more health bars left at the end of stage it takes more time to change them to extra points. I haven't calculated how much though, but some 4 frames each I suppose. And one jump in single player costs you one frame... So, do you think I should continue this other version with 1P? Here's my first 1½ stages: wb3.rar

Nifboy, I agree that this game played as fast as possible is not fun to watch and therefore not worth publishing. AdmiralJonB, was my post-editing so confusing to read? Should I edit it to be more clear?

Ha! Because of random worlds, I managed to get one of the fastest worlds in my first try! Can you believe... My first time was 24:49 and then I found this topic and realized I could improve signifcantly my time and here it is, 16:42. I even managed to waste time in level 7, so if you think it's worth to submit this movie after improving, I'll do it. http://www.freewebs.com/suklaalevy/files/megadrive/ Edit: I realized my run is not finished (to "The end" -screen) So it takes a little more time. Edit2: So the final time is now 19:05.
