Hi guys, I switched to Gentoo about 2 months ago, and I am trying to get FCEU 0.98.15 working. I downloaded and unpacked the source, but when I tried to run configure, I had a few problems. My friend suggested using dos2unix, which allowed me to "successfully" configure and build fceu. However, when I gave it a rom to run, it started up saying it was version 0.98.13. Is this normal? Or did I do something wrong? Second, (this all might be related to the above problem), I looked through the included FAQ and other documentation, and I can't seem to find a way to load a video to play. Also, when ever a rom is loaded, there is red text across the bottom which reads "Not implemented". What does this mean, and is there anyway to get rid of it? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I would hate to have to give up TASing (or switch back to windows). Thanks!

I loved that game as a kid, and I still love it. If someone wants to make a TAS of it, I would love to see it. It would be fun to see a TASer cream my real time track records.

Ok, that makes a lot more sense now, but any tips on getting farther to the right? (if you have seen my video)

I have read it before, I don't understand how it can be used without going back to the vine?

I have watched the SMB 1 record video, and I can't seem to copy the vine trick. The vine trick I am talking about is in 4-2 when mario hits the vine block, then runs past it and goes down a pipe. He is then in the warp area. Here is a video where I try, but fail. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/963/walls.fcm Any help is appreciated.

Anyone else watch this: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/2006/04/smbrace.html? It looks like they are crappy speed runs, but I can't be sure. What do you think?

Excellent emulator. My new favorite! I found a possible bug. It seems to have trouble dealing wih memory paks when recording movies. For example: I was trying to make a simple run of Beetle Adventure Racing just for fun. I put in a mempak and started the rom. Then I started movie recording. I got a message (from the game) "New Memory Pak Detected. This Pak will be used." I selected "Create new game" and got an error reading the mem pak. If I stop movie recording the normal window of "Controller Pak Detected" appears and I can create a new game. Any ideas why this is a problem?

Ah, ok. Unfortuanly I don't have a working version of Muppen yet, so i cant play it. I have played it before, but that was a while ago. Anyways, thanks for the excellent movie.

That is my #1 favorite TAS! Props to you!! Quick question (probably a dumb one): How much room do you need to go backwards up stairs? I was thinking (I'm probably wrong) that it might be possible to go backwards up the main staircase. Has anyone tried? Good luck to future runs of this game. And I would love to see a 120 star run of this game. (that would probably become my favorite run) Again, good luck to future players!

I'm sure you can figure this out on your own, but for you lazy people out there, here you go: Right 01 Left 02 Up 04 Down: 08 B 10 A 20 Select 40 Start 80 These are the hex values of the controller buttons for FMV files. Enjoy!

I did the entire World 3 during the weekend in a single session and as I was playing the last level, FCEU crashed and, naturally, I lost everything I had made that morning. I guess I can't really blame anyone but myself for not making backups.
Weird, usually when FCEU crashes on me (which is a lot), i just recall my last saved state and it brings back my movie up to that. Thats too bad though, i would like to see world 3. Good luck on your next try!

Yes, that game. Do you (and others) think my video is a good start? (remember, my current video is a VERY rough draft. So many errors in it that i could fix.)

After i first read about this game, i felt like i should do a TAS on it. I made a very rough draft of the first area (out of 6). Tell me what you think. If you like it, i will clean it up and continue the run. Movie: www.geocities.com/pjgat09/treasmas.fcm.zip (note: there is a part before the submarine where i am standing on a block and i kick an enemy, then i just stand there for a little while. I am waiting for the bomb to blow up. Any ideas on how to make the wait more interesting?)

I think the problem about sound not working is probably the fault of the other program. What are you using to play your music that is so greedy that it prevents other programs from having sound?
Im using RealOne Player.

(Once the "sound not working" dialog comes up, I'm not surprised it then crashes or freezes - I've had problems with FCEU doing that when dialogs or menus it doesn't expect to be open are open.)
Its not right after the dialog comes up, its after it comes up and i try and click on File. If i see the dialog come up, i click ok with no problems.

nice to see some 14 year old still interested in old NES and SNES games :]
I am 14.98 (2 days till my birthday!). And i love playing NES and SNES. I think it might the people i grew up with. I had friends that only had a SNES (the N64 was too expensive) and one had a NES (i loved playing that too). So a few months ago i decided to buy my self a gift: a NES! Best gift i ever got my self. I want to get a SNES soon too.

sry, i thought that was clear enough. Ill try again: If i am playing music when i open FCEU i get the window that tells me that sound will not work (thats obvious because i am listening to music). But sometimes when this window comes up, i dont see it and click on File to open a game. Right after i click, it freezes. Hope that made more sense.

Sometimes i will be playing music when i open FCEU, and the "sound doesnt work" window will come up. If i accidentally try to go for the menu instead of clicking ok, the program crashes. Maybe someone can fix this? Its not too big of a hastle, i dont lose any movie files, but it is kind of annoying to have to open FCEU again, but i live with it. Just thought i would let you know.

Im not sure how many people here have heard about this, but there is a way to turn the wandering hammer bros on the map screens into bonus treasure ships. Heres how it is done: Start a level with a roulette at the end. Play through the level and get to the end (you might have to return into the level later). Before you hit the roulette, make sure your coin count is a multiple of 11 (11, 22...etc). Also make sure the ten's place in your score count matches this number. Example: Coins: 11 Score: 26310 If these are correct, finish the level and you get your surprise. I have made a .fcm video of this too, heres the link: http://www.geocities.com/pjgat09/hammer_to_ship.fcm.zip Enjoy!
