is it me or does the TAS avoid input to “end” sooner and let the AI kill itself? if so, I really disliked that, I’d much rather have a longer input time but a shorter ending time
That's exactly what it does. This run wasn't meant to be a cure for cancer, I just wanted to optimize what ToonLucas22 was doing because I thought he had a cool idea. One of my current projects is an "all modes" run of Tetris DS, which does not use this strategy.

You know, veup has improved his run of Tetris DS Marathon drastically, by over 15 seconds. I wish he would submit it to TASVideos. I'm aware that his current record on this site wasn't submitted by him. Link to video

Thank you, Baxter. I've updated the videos to reflect the new replay file.

There's 5 garbage blocks at the top in the end, suggesting that it's possible to use one less tetrimino with better arrangement. Also, I'm not sure if making lines from the top block instead of the bottom block is the better strategy. For these reasons, I believe it's possible to improve this run by a few frames. I could be completely wrong though. In any case, I really liked watching this run, so I'm voting Yes. :)
Thank you for the kind words, people who liked this run. SmashManiac is right, I found a strategy that uses 1 less block and the same number of holds, saving 10 frames. New replay file: http://www.filedropper.com/tetrisdspushscahfy781

Could we have a low-speed encode like we did for the F-Zero death race?
Good idea, uploading as we speak. Edit: Added to the original submission.

I saved 378 frames. I'll edit this post to include the encode as soon as it finishes uploading to YouTube. Link to the replay file: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/download/11506809890532686 Edit: Here's a quick encode.

Thanks! Being a noob, I didn't know about that. From that page, is there a way to search only the forums and not the rest of the site?

I don't get any forum topics/posts as results when I search this site via Google (example). Looking into it, the TASVideos robots.txt blocks the forums for all crawlers except for Google's ("Mediapartners-Google"). But since Google doesn't show these search results, it clearly isn't working. This being the case, the only way for normal users to search the forums is by using the standard phpBB page. Compared to Google, searches take more time to complete, you're only allowed to perform 2 searches per minute, and search queries are inferior by nature. Upgrading to phpBB3 (AFAIK, this site uses phpBB2) could help a bit, but that's a different discussion. Is there a reason that Google searches of the TASVideos forums are disabled?

Great progress! One question: Since the gates provide significant speed boosts, is it worth it to miss so many of them?
Those are boost pads, not the gates that are providing the speed increases.
It seems like that from THC98's WIP alone, because he doesn't go through any gates until he is already at a high speed (as you say, from boost pads). Gates don't provide a big speed boost anyway, which may be why THC98 doesn't seem to care about them as much. However, they do provide a boost, which you can see more clearly in this speedrun (Sand Hill starts at 13:34).
Actually, Atma is right. Gates don't give any speed boost, they only are multipliers to the score. That speedrun didn't use the best strat.
My mistake, sorry for doubting you, Atma.

The speed gained from going down the slope is lost when Mickey steps on the root, but the next platform is too high to reach without using the root, so no, no way.
Thanks for explaining. Great job, yes vote from me!

Very nice optimization, especially in the later stages. I like the dodging from 14:53-15:11.
