Looking from a programming perspective, I actually don't find a single one of the "assumptions" bizarre or illogical in any way.

is Talon at Lon Lon Ranch even if you don't wake him up (after either Jabu Jabu or Zelda)
I believe the answer to that is no (can someone please confirm?), and in the worst case scenario, we'll just have to get the Weird Egg and wait it out the old way. On the flip side, this allows for much greater flexibility in route planning. Talon is definitely not at Lon Lon Ranch if you don't wake him up. Why this would change after collecting all three stones is beyond me--I simply can't see the game automatically making that kind of an assumption.

Is that really faster? My idea was shooting the "higher" Skullwalltula so that you could climb along the right edge of that wall and avoid having to move horizontally. Also, did you try supersliding off of a Leever in the final stretch of the Haunted Wasteland and the Desert Colossus? EDIT - @AKA, I think he could have superslid during the last straight portion of the path to Spirit.

MM doesn't have that problem though.

Watched Segment 4. Comments: * Wacky route in the Haunted Wasteland, especially the first half. I hope that's the fastest. * Is it possible to superslide off of a Leever? If so, you can save time in the second half of the Haunted Wasteland and the Desert Colossus on the way to Spirit. * The room with the Armos and Keese was very well done this time. * As with AKA, I believe it may be faster to slingshot the Skullwalltula before climbing the wall to the second floor in Spirit. * As others have brought up, if you can lose another half a heart somewhere in the temple, you can save about a second dying to a second Leever. BTW, I posted your improved Deku Tree and rupee runs on SDA, and the comments have been very positive. fluffy kitten and some others have suggested that the sidehopping on the Gold Skulltula in B1 of Deku could have been done more quickly.

If you want to avoid the camera overview when you exit normally to Termina Field for the first time, it looks like you'll have to glitch out of Clock Town (or owl warp) every single time you want to go outside...

Guano corrected the name issue in his current work-in-progress after AKA brought it up. He didn't know when he began his previous run, so that's forgivable. You, on the other hand, have been informed. ;) If you look around, you'll see that practically every Zelda TAS runner names his character "A" since timing begins from power-on, and the goal is to speed through the file-select screens as quickly as possible. The fastest button sequence is A or START (for "PRESS START"), A (to select File 1), A (to select the letter "A"), START (to move the cursor to end), and A (to press "End"), A (to select File 1), and A (to confirm the file select with "Yes"). By the way, petrie, would you mind making a new topic (preferably with the game's title correctly punctuated) when you release your first WIP? You could include the route and links to your .m64's in the first post so that everything related to your run is easily accessible (like how TSA does it for his runs over at SDA). Hopefully, doing so will also reduce some newbie questions and remarks. I think I can talk Bisqwit into allowing this if needed; this topic can then be purged since it really doesn't contain that much useful information (no offense). EDIT - Did an unoptimised, unrecorded "test run" of the first segment and reached the clock tower at about 10 o'clock. So you'll have at least two Terminian hours to spare...

Otherwise, I think that we could get the Goron Mask on Cycle 1.
Besides the snowballs blocking the path to Mountain Village, some of the invisible platforms outside the Lens of Truth cave are too far apart for Deku Link.
Oh, and I've started, having finally got around those issues.
Good to hear. This looks to be a very promising run and I'm very much looking forward to it. Which plugins are you using? Just as a reminder, AKA's tips for Guano's OoT run also apply here: * To save the most time, the character should be named "A" * The fastest way to speed through text is by inserting one input per frame (via frame advance) in the following sequence: A, A, B, B... (not A, B, A, B...)

Kazooie's trick is not only old, but is not applicable in this run. We're doing Bottle Adventure, meaning that the Forest Temple is the only adult dungeon that needs to be completed.

JSmith, can you please look at the route before asking such questions? Seriously, it'd only take a few seconds of your time since the answer is right on it...and on top of page one, I might add. Two 24-hour Granny's stories and twelve hours of scarecrow dancing will take us to 6 p.m. on the third night. From then on, we save the Stray Fairy, get magic, collect and deposit 99 rupees in the bank, backflip onto the clock tower ledge, and it should be nearly about time. No, you cannot do much by glitching out of Clock Town while stuck in Deku form. Whatever you can do wouldn't be as efficient as if you had the flexibility to switch between masks and other inventory items. * You can't help the Magic Hags while in Deku form. * The fastest way to glitch into Snowhead early involves explosives. * Glitching into Great Bay early requires explosives. There you go.

I did not post the previous message that showed up under my name. Another one of those database glitches must have occurred earlier today... Anyway...no offense, but all of the tricks mentioned in the last few posts have been known for quite a while already. If you have any uncertainties, you should check the route on page two of this topic. In fact, barring the discovery of an unimaginable trick (such as flying through walls), I think this game has pretty much been broken to its limits, at least for a minimalist run. I'd love to see this TAS proceed as well, but if petrie's still having technical problems, we can only be patient and wait.

As I said, it is awesome, but below are a few spots where I think improvements might be possible. Numbers in parentheses indicate the corresponding times from the Youtube movie. (1:24) You bump into the valve while leaping out of the water. Can this be avoided? (3:22) Can you leap out of the water and land directly in the next tunnel? (3:35) Can you leap out of the water and land on a higher section of the red pipe? (4:08) Can you leap out of the water and land on a higher section of the green pipe? (4:13) Can you become Link earlier and take out the bomb a few seconds sooner to save time waiting for it to defuse? (5:22) Could you have stunned Gyorg a bit earlier by jumping into the water in the right direction? Your second cycle was noticeably faster.

It could be because of the day/night cycle and getting into Hyrule Castle in time. If I recall correctly, it's always noon after completing Dodongo's Cavern. Isn't it possible to steal the rod as a child? The OoT glitch index at jaytheham.com says, "You can, apparently, also do this as child Link, but you have to do it while rolling off the rocks near the small stream." If so, why not do this as a child after getting the Golden Scale? This way, you can get an easy bottle and take the shortcut to Zora's Domain. Here are Acryte's steps to getting Light Arrows on B, posted for our convenience: 1. Deplete Deku Stick Supply to 0 2. Get fish in bottle 3. Plant Bean in lake hylia 4. Become Adult 5. Go get hoverboots early 6. Beat Forest temple (To get rid of shiek) 7. Ride beanplant to Fisherman's Pond 8. Go Fishing (20 rupees) 9. Equip Hover + cast fishing line (v1.0 only) 10. Move to door w/ line cast 11. Go back towards ToT 12. In hyrule field (Not in lake hylia) Pause and unpause (puts deku stick on B [DON'T PRESS B]) 13. Empty bottled fish and catch it again 14. Do backflip and then press bottle button and then B before you hit the ground. (puts bottle on B) 15. Go to ToT 16. Put fish on c-right and make sure deku nuts aren't equipped (not sure but to be safe). 17. Become child 18. Become Adult (light arrows are now on B) 19. Perform Ganon Early (bomb-boosted hover method since you don't have a sword for swordglitch method) 20. Perform Ganon's Tower Skip w/ bomb 21. Use bottle to reflect the energy ball 22. Hit him w/ light arrow 23. Pause and equip sword. 24. Hold him down w/ attacks (easiest w/ quickspins) till he is dead in 1 cycle.

My personal stance on Bottle Adventure is that it's a "severe glitch," and, because the trick is version-specific, a run using it should belong in a different category. I haven't really worked out a route for BA, to be honest, though I'd very much like to see a run with BA and find out how much time can be saved. If you do BA, the route will be quite different. Since you have to go to the Fishing Pond, you might as well spend 40 more seconds and collect the Golden Scale. If you're not doing BA, then it would make sense to skip the long trek to Lake Hylia altogether and bomb hover over King Zora. So I really don't know.

Um, mwl , I'm pretty sure that if he dies in the spirit temple , then saves and continues, he will reappear back in the spirit temple.Because the games save in temples.
Damn, you're right about that. Good catch. I don't think there's any way around learning the Requiem, given our current knowledge. The Requiem cutscene takes about 1.5 minutes, which is less time compared to that needed to get the Silver Gauntlets. So in this case, learning the Requiem and deathwarping in the Desert Colossus still wins. DK64_MASTER, you'd need explosives to get FW in the first place.

Well, if he does Bottle Adventure, he won't be needing the Requiem. So he can just die to the Lizalfos in the bombchu room. I agree with CoolBumpty--why land on the switch (and trigger the flame-lighting cutscene) if you're not going to use the flame in the first place? Anyway, 3'36" is a good time for Deku. I'm sure 3'30" will be eventually possible with the elimination of the subscreen delay as well as the minor improvements that have been brought up.

I didn't watch much of the run, wasn't a whole lot of fun since it skipped most of the game, plus I myself have never played it.
There you go. You can't really judge a run without having played the game yourself. What chronorox did in his UNASSISTED SINGLE-SEGMENT run, in my personal opinion, is much more difficult than it looks--if you think you can do better, I'd really like to see it. (The run was split into three parts due to Youtube's length limitations for non-director accounts, but was recorded in a single segment.) As short as his run may seem, there are a full 20 levels in the minimalist route, in comparison to eight in the original SMB. I'd like to see a 100% run as well, but the minimalist run will inevitably be done first, just because it's easier to plan. :)

Here are the vine skip vs. no vine skip comparison videos from Acryte: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYvSz5opLuI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2bWEyQlNxs Also, when you're doing the Tree, don't forget to refer to Acryte's tips from way back. They're in this topic.

By the way, here's a pretty comprehensive list of the major Rupee sources in MM: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/file/zelda_majoras_mask_rupee.txt There may be a few better rupee sources than those in the current route.

ok, then if he goes to the spirit temple then he doesnt need the fairy slingshot, because he will have bombchus to bomb boost to the bomb bag. Other things though, can you hit the switch in the jabu jabus belly dongueon( i forget how to spell degoun) in the first room without a fairy slingshot? NVM get the slingshot , its a only 30 sec item plus I'm thinking that it might not be a requirement for bomb boosting but it may work faster I dont know because I remember someone in the sda forums saying its possible to do it without the slingshot, but you might need to use the slingshot for the switch in jabu jabu belly and it what ly4er says it helps you beat the boss faster.
In Spirit, you need the slingshot to shoot a crystal switch on the second floor. When activated, a chest containing 10 bombchus drops down. Without such explosives, you won't even be able to enter Dodongo's Cavern to get the bomb bag (unless you pick up a strength upgrade, which takes unnecessary time). You can hit the switch in Jabu-Jabu using a bombchu or well-timed bomb. I'll tell you this: if you can somehow figure out a way to activate the aforementioned switch in Spirit without the slingshot, skipping it *might* be feasible. But even then, the chances are slim because (1) you'd need extra time to get Deku Nuts for Gohma, and (2) activating the endless sword glitch and using the Green Bubble to boost across the gap on Spirit's first-floor takes quite a bit of time.

As far as I know, just using a certain plugin shouldn't cause desynchs. In any case, you should always do the run a little at a time, so that in the case that the movie does desynch, you won't lose a significant amount of work. And we'll help you check, too. I've printed out the MM route and looked through it a couple of times. It looks very solid--and as for the supply/timing issues, that's what a test run is good for.

I just watched the new TAS. Thanks very much, bkDJ. That's really a 31-second improvement? O_o Wow. Anyway... Subscreen delay: 4 seconds each * 2 = 8 seconds wasted. =/ Bag of Magic Food, I wish I could fix the stupid glitch, but I don't have the knowledge. Someone should, though. I've personally never been able to manipulate the bushes near the Z-targeting practice area so that they drop blue rupees (and thus making the one in the shop unnecessary). I've made about 50+ attempts. If you have succeeded, I'd like to know. Is swimming the fastest way to get from the Kokiri Shop to Mido? According to Acryte, the fastest way was using the middle "island." Check his Youtube profile for the comparison videos--IIRC, the difference came out to be about 10 frames. HiddenGamer, getting the Goron's Bracelet is VERY slow--much slower than getting the Slingshot from Deku and Bombchus from Spirit. You have to navigate your way through the Sacred Forest Meadow, learn the song, and watch Darunia do his stupid dance. Not to mention that you can't learn SS until you've learned the Lullaby, and that won't be done until later in the run for efficiency reasons (you need explosives to skip the whole Weird Egg thing). As for the vine text skip in Deku, if I recall correctly it's not any faster if you do it. But someone should double-check. The subject was discussed on SDA a few months ago.

Not Mupen in its current state, I'm afraid. :( EDIT - Crap, my computer doesn't support that plugin. All I see is a black screen while the movie plays.
