Very well done, Guano! Can someone knowledgeable please put up the things that need to be done in ST? http://mwlin.freehostia.com/wiki/index.php?title=Spirit_Temple&action=edit Here's what I'm aware of: Kazooie's shortcuts FierceLinkMaster's Beamos shortcut Get 20 Rupees from Armos in Callout 2 Before ST, you need to exit and learn the RS before going back in. I expect that Segment One will be done in just under 35 minutes. Segment Three is about 15 minutes, leaving 70 minutes to do all of Segment Two if we're aiming for under two hours. Maybe it's possible after all... @Andypro - Savestates work perfectly. Thanks.

I've put up the finalized (for now) testrun route in pretty table format, with each and every step filled in for GuanoBowl. I've also included VIDEOS for every major trick. Testrun Route If you notice, there is a very nice video of the lens-less Wasteland route by AKA, and it looks pretty much optimized. Only one video is missing, and that's the Poe boost (which will be much, much later) [Edit by Bisqwit: Removed extravagant markup]

Just four segments now. Yes, AKA's proposal is faster, and I made a mistake last night as well -- the additional savewarp after JJ is not faster. Theoretical Best Route - Tool-assisted Segment 1 1. The first savewarp can be ignored for now, while for the second and third you can simply get hit by Leevers around the Colossus until you die. Since you are not picking up any additional heart containers/pieces (you won't need them), you should die pretty quickly. Also, please make a savestate each time you enter a major dungeon/area and include those with your movie so that we can continue watching from the previous update rather than starting all the way from the beginning. Thanks.

No, the new save state will start at the intro screen. Re: Below post - Mupen64 does not currently have soft resets.

"Get the Bolero of Fire to warp back from" - No. "You need to get heart pieces for underwater segments" - No. We skip Fire and Water temples. "If you have such a low bandwidth that you need to split up 100KB files into 20KB segments..." - the segments are about 30 KB per minute. The files will be much bigger than 100 KB, and they should be split up per my instructions. "Savewarps aren't allowed" - I don't see where the rules say that. The optimal route is what will be used...and if that involves, savewarping, so be it.

How about you keep quiet, Zurreco? Every post you make reveals how ignorant you are about this whole run.

Um, no? .v64 is a perfectly valid extension for N64 roms.

GuanoBowl, make sure you use Legend of Zelda, The - Ocarina of Time (U) (V1.0) [!].v64

Please use the v1.0 ROM. I can tell you where to get it if you need. EDIT - Since this is a test run, I'd recommend that you just go on. You can get the every-second optimization when you do the final run.

You often get ammunition too. Deku seeds, for example. You should have just gotten the 20 from Mido on your way out of the forest. Sigh.

Also, I believe the soft reset, and save and quit feature shouldnt be allowed....No reason. just a suggestion.
The optimal route requires glitching through the gate to the Wasteland. Unfortunately, this only works in one direction -- no way back has been discovered yet. Therefore, a single-segment run is not doable; you have to savewarp. The next best route isn't much of an improvement over TSA's five-hour run.

Segmenting gives coders a chance to start coding soft resets? How does that logic work? Furthermore, if you have such a low bandwidth that you need to split up ~100KB files into multiple 20KB files, you probably wouldn't be able to navigate this forum well enough to learn about the test run, much less get the emulator and ROM.
It's 345 KB for a 13' segment. Later segments will be much longer.

This is a no no. Either you wait for resets to be recorded effectively, you save and then die, or you forget about all of these shortcuts. Segmenting isn't allowed, last time I checked.
Who cares? This is only a test run. Segmenting keeps the files smaller so that people with low bandwidth can still download them. Besides, this is a chance for those Mupen64 coders to get off their bums and start coding the soft resets before the real deal comes out.

Yes, you get it in segment 2. Segment 2 begins in Link's House. From there, backflip out, then get the red rupee from Mido's house. After that you can leave the forest and proceed towards the fishing pond.

Right after the Kokiri Emerald cutscene. So, as soon as you regain control of yourself, save the game and quit. Make a new save state at the file-loading screen and start a new movie file. This "savewarp" allows skipping of the Mido dialogue and backtracking across the forest.

Wow, this is looking pretty darn good! Note that it is possible to skip the message about diving for interesting stuff. See Acryte's walkthrough. This saves about seven seconds. Get the 20 Rupees for fishing from Mido's house on your way out of the forest.

Please reupload it. The lack of a "soft reset" is simply an excuse; there are ways around this problem. In a test run, one could simply die and continue to keep the movie in one piece. If it comes down to it, we'll make a save state for each segment. I really don't think Acryte is serious about doing this, so anybody else who's interested should go for it. Just be sure to keep up with all the tricks on SpeedDemosArchive, and release frequent test runs so that in case you miss a timesaver we can give you a heads-up about it.

There isn't that big of a difference between the time and score attacks (since time is factored into your score). And low score is just stupid IMHO.

Well, go for the score attack and aim as high as possible (including the bonus rounds). I'd love to see it.

How do you save and reset while recording a movie? Doing so is necessary for the optimal time.

As I said, these are computer-generated stats. I will leave out the 100-coin stars next time. But the Secret Aquarium, Secret Slide, Chip Off Whomp's Block, and Snowman's Big Head are clearly not optimized.

Those are computer generated stats. All I do is type in the start/end frame numbers for each star. The script computes everything else for me. Star times are taken from http://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~cbright/sm64/startimescomp.html The hex editing for Secret Aquarium should be done ASAP.
