I sidehopped instead of supersliding because you can't superslide on ice and backwalking makes Link slide about near the beginning wasting time. In the graveyard and outside it rolling turned out to be faster (about 35 frames faster outside and about 5 frames inside). Backwalking would have been slower becasuse time is wasted turning to set it up and then turning back to face Darmani (you have to have the lens of truth on him for 12 frames before he will react to the song of healing)/. BoMF -- Yup, you have to wait for him to sit down.
My bad, then. Thanks for clearing this up.

What's with all those sidehops on the path between Mountain Village and Goron Village? You do not change direction, so what's preventing you from supersliding there? Instead, you superslide for under two seconds to cover that short distance near the end... A superslide takes four seconds to set up, so keep this mind when calculating tradeoffs. Good job scaling the cliff to Goron Graveyard without the Lens. Have you tried backwalking as opposed to rolling when 1. entering the graveyard entrance 2. heading towards Darmani Also, did you play the SoH at the farthest possible distance from Darmani? If I recall correctly, you can Z-target him from pretty far away once you have the Lens equipped. Clock Town (so far) was nicely done.

Nice. However, using arrows (which we will have by that point) is still the fastest. Deku bubbles take time to charge up, and I'm pretty sure you cannot stand this far away:

Use Petrie's route for now, but don't play the Inverted Song of Time until further notice. AKA, we need bow & arrows in the Pirates' Fortress to shoot down that hive and skip the cutscene about the Zora eggs. (Deku bubbles cannot reach it.) This is why we do Woodfall first, then warp back to Clock Town and then proceed to Great Bay Coast.

The TAS is going to be timed in real time, not using the in-game timer. Any routes that may involve going through pipes are not necessarily the best for a TAS.

It's still an unnecessary diversion.

The only two things that bothered me in the latest WIP are 1. No superslide when exiting Kakariko Village (at 3'01"). It takes four seconds to set up a superslide, and that was an eight-second backwalk. 2. No superslide on the way to Zora's River As AKA said, there are plenty of bombs in the grass at the beginning of the Zora's River area.

I suggested the Bolero of Fire from OoT. I'd prefer to stick to Zelda, as many people don't watch The Simpsons or play Final Fantasy, and won't recognize music from other franchises. It's your choice, though.

Indeed. You have to keep holding, or else Link stops sliding. Try not to do it when your back is against a wall, or the sliding becomes very slow. Instead, approach your destination at a new angle, if possible.

This is a classic category nearly as old as Mario 64 itself. I certainly approve.

This is a good category, and has been around for a while. I believe the maximum is 77. Yes, the Pyramid Secrets one is possible.

Is it just the .avi or is there a long, unnatural pause at 1'24" when acknowledging the bomb shopkeeper's "Welcome" message? Also, you don't seem to input the bank deposit amount as quickly as you could have with frame advance. Again, I'm not sure if this is an issue with the .avi or the .m64 itself. Why not just sidehop up the steps in East Clock Town en route to the silver rupee? The backwalk takes time to set up. Sorry for the lateness. I've been rather busy with TP over the past few days... >_>

Simply put, there is no way to perform a time attack or score attack in this game's 1P mode without a relatively high degree of repetition. If a _pure_ time or score attack ends up not being "good" enough for this site, then so be it -- hopefully someone will still produce them and we can find them another home.

1) Would you use the Goron Punch to break all the snowballs after the bomb staircase? 2) What does more damage: normal arrows or the Goron Spiked roll? If it's the latter, wouldn't it be smarter to use the Goron method of killing Goht? (considering that you can replenish magic and avoid the lightning without losing time thanks to tools)
1) No. Too slow. 2) Arrows deal 2 dmg/hit; Goron spikes deal 1 dmg/hit (quite surprising but true)

Assuming he is backwalking towards the pit, why would he want to jump slash rather than backflip?
The distance might be too short for the setup time to be worth it. See GBT.

it might be worth it to put on the mask now to get the 'transformation' animation out of the way, and use Deku Link to get to the silver rupee chest (transforming back to Link in order to catch the ledge, unless Deku link can do another creative angled backflip)? It'd be overall slower than the WIP, but it'd save time if Deku Link can walk over to the silver rupee chest faster. just a thought, it might be wrong.
Similarly, I think the distance to the chest is too short to make all this back-and-forth transforming worthwhile. If I recall correctly, the difference in traveling speeds between Link's two forms amounts to just over a second when timed across Termina Field.

Yautja's right -- never grab a ledge and climb it if there are other alternatives. It's very slow. Also, speaking of jumpslashes, be sure to perform them when jumping into deep pits (like those leading to boss chambers in the GBT and STT). I'll mention this again when the time comes.

petrie, didn't you say months ago that you had done an unrecorded test run up to at least the Great Bay Temple, and everything worked out just fine? If not, I'll try to work out the time issue and the rupee route in the coming weeks. (There are a few rupee sources that aren't even accounted for, especially those involving luck manipulation. We may not need to make as many diversions for rupees as the current route suggests.) I'll watch the WIP tomorrow.

This could be an interesting project. I achieved a total score of around 5.5 million (IIRC), bettering David Wonn on probably around a third of the individual levels. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have known about the glitch, though. It's too bad that I've forgotten some of my routes and strategies, though. Most of my scores (except perhaps those on 3-5 levels) are not optimal, and there's still a lot of room for improvement. I often missed coins here and there, especially the last of the three coins in midair at the end of each bonus section.

Is it just me or wasting time to superslide everywhere not seem good...only if for a straight line where the superslide outpaces backwalking in terms of time should it be used.
Precisely. When Goron rolling becomes an option after this cycle, superslides will be used rather sparingly.

I agree. Actually, I thought of that route too, but I failed to consider the angle at which you enter the mountains. You're absolutely right, and it's two transitions saved.

I have to disagree with the things I put in boldface. For the first one wouldn't it be better to do the Owl statue after getting the silver ruppee
Yes.

for the second one (and trillionth time) it would be infinitley better to use a navi text to activate the sword glitch, although bombs are still needed for super sliding and to blow up the snow boulders.
Yes.

It'll be fine. As long as your run has a well-defined category, we'll push to get it published, provided that it is optimal within that category. I, for one, evaluate runs solely on their technical quality.

Good going, Mukki. I'll watch your WIP after it's been converted to video format to save time, since my computer is slow at fast-forwarding .m64s in Mupen. For your convenience, here's the revised route for the next portion of the run (the major change being that it's no longer necessary to talk to Darmani in the Village): Clock Tower * Talk to the Happy Mask Salesman. Fast-forward all text with A/B. * Learn the Song of Healing. Use frame advance to play the notes quickly. * Collect the Deku Mask and exit. South Clock Town * Turn right and slash the owl statue with your sword. This creates a warp point for use later. * Head to East Clock Town. East Clock Town * Collect a silver rupee in the chest above the Shooting Gallery. (Wallet: 99; Bank: 99; Total: 198) * Head to the Bomb Shop in West Clock Town. Bomb Shop * Buy a bomb bag with 50 rupees. (Wallet: 49; Bank: 99; Total: 148) (Bombs: 20) West Clock Town * Deposit 49 rupees into the bank. (Wallet: 0; Bank: 148; Total: 148) * Head to North Clock Town through South Clock Town, and exit to Termina Field. Termina Field * Equip bombs (C buttons: Ocarina, Bombs) * Use the infinite sword glitch to get through the ice crystals. (Bombs: 19) (Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGirAddjXCk) * The winding climb up to Mountain Village is difficult to optimize. This may take some time. Mountain Village * Superslide/backwalk to the owl statue near the northern exit and slash it with your sword. * Head to Goron Village via the eastern exit. Superslide/backwalk whenever possible for efficient movement. * Jump over the invisible platforms to the cave containing the Lens of Truth. Skip the owl dialogue. (Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2Bw6XY2XXk) * Collect the Lens of Truth inside the cave. Goron Village * Superslide/backwalk whenever possible back to Mountain Village. * Climb the invisible ladders to the graveyard (preferably without using the Lens to conserve magic.) Goron Graveyard * Equip the Lens of Truth to see Darmani, and play the Song of Healing. (C buttons: Ocarina, Bombs, Lens) * Collect the Goron Mask and equip it. (C buttons: Ocarina, Bombs, Goron Mask) * Play the Song of Time to warp back to South Clock Town. At this point, the run will be about 10% complete.

I'm sure some of you know about it by now, but I'm just posting it for those who don't. It got rejected because of the Skulltula Vine Glitch in the Deku Tree. I have yet to officially time it but the unofficial time is 2:33:07.
Just as a clarification, SDA has different start and end points for timing the run. This run is actually about ten minutes slower than Guano's run, but it's a very well done job, nonetheless.

If the sole purpose of this site is for so-called "entertaining" movies, my hope is that in the near future, someone will create another TAS community in which objective, easily-measurable standards such as time and score are regarded as highest priority, and "entertainment" comes second, not as a fundamental requirement for a run to be published. I am sure that there are at least a few others here who share this same sentiment.
