Haven't you noticed the technical rating is optional? If you don't like it, ignore it. It's that simple.
You see, if I ignore those ratings, that won't stop other people from still using them and looking at them. This is a problem when they have rated very lowly a good movie, or very highly a bad movie. There is NO possible way to know the real technical quality of a movie, unless you've personally TASed that game before, and even then. So, that's why the "tech quality" rating is really useless in my opinion: it only harms "new" viewers (they may miss good movies or watch crappy ones hoping for a good one) and players (for obvious reasons).
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

YES I like being able to rate a movie without having to wait months for publication. I'd like it even more if it didn't have the technical rating, but I guess that's for another topic ("Do you approve the 'TECH QUALITY' RATING? (no MEH allowed)" :P).

I agree with that. While I think the original idea for technical rating was a good one, people don't use it like that. Instead they use the "how close to perfection you think this movie is" thing, and that's completely wrong. Technical quality of a movie is not something subjective, period. I don't see the point of allowing "ignorant" people rate the technical quality of games they've never TASed. They will always rate your movie with lower technical ratings and then you can only think "well, just tell me only one f*cking place where I can save a single frame in my movie"... So... Yes, I don't really have anything to say about the original topic. :P

Er... It looks like "MAX_PATH" is Windows only, so you may need to define it somewhere else first in Linux. Like this:
#define ‘MAX_PATH’ 255
My code probably has lots of Windows specific code, so you may need to change a lot of lines first to make it work.

I didn't modify "PsxBios.c", so I can't help you here; it looks like that's an error from the original PCSX.

People, let me quote something:
Bisqwit wrote:
I don't wish to make it into an automatic redirection, because otherwise people will start forming permanent links to the wrong address, seeing that it will redirect to the right thing anyway.
As you can see, the problem for Bisqwit is not what you're thinking it is. Maybe he's worried about search engines and that kind of stuff. I hate it too when people add "www." to my website address on links, but in my case is because it makes it look ugly and long. Sadly, I don't have the power on my server to make an error page like Bisqwit did.
Cheezwizz wrote:
The WWW has been there since the beginning. No sense in being a hardass about it. "I refuse to have a proper internet address because I think it doesn't matter." Well guess what, it does. What SHOULD happen is that browsers refuse to take an address without a subdomain.
Everything in your post was really funny... :P

I finished watching the other movie feeling sad because it was so short. Then I came back to the forums and saw this one, what a pleasant surprise! I really loved both movies. They have everything I could expect from a good TAS: great boss fights, entertaining auto-scroller levels, unexpected glitches and, of course, one of the best games ever made behind. This was one of the most awaited runs by me, and you surely exceeded all of my expectations. Amazing job, thank you so much for making these movies. I gave both submissions a 10/9.

Reading the Dega thread, I think the steps were something like this: 1. pcc adds rerecording support to an emulator 2. pcc adds avi recording to that emulator 3. pcc rewrites the movie file format like a hundred times 4. Once everyone is happy with it, he sends some information for review to Bisqwit 5. Bisqwit appears on the thread and says "everything looks fine to me" 6. SMS movies start appearing and then they are being submitted after Bisqwit adds support to the file format I think PCSX is at step 1. There have been some suggestions lately about what should the file format contain: disc ID, start from memory cards option, support for multiple discs, etc. So I think we're a bit far from step 3. Also, avi support seems a bit difficult to implement at this point, as the only open-source sound plugin makes it pretty much impossible to produce only 1 frame of sound data. So, I think we're a bit far from step 2 too. :P

How did he do that? That's a little sad, I thought his movies were pretty good. So they're basically done by writing stuff to RAM to get good luck and such?
Here's what he says on the description of the first segment of his "Near-Perfect Speed Run":
This is a demonstration of how fast Final Fantasy VII can be beaten legitimately. I'm playing this on an emulator and I play on 1/s speed, use save states (and cheats in rare cases) for maximum luck manipulation, but everything I do can be done in the regular version.
What's even funnier is that he originally called this a "Tool-Assisted Speed Run", and he used cheats because he thought we normally use cheats to produce these movies... As far as I know, he only uses cheats to get high luck, but I've only watched the first few segments.

Part 3 was a lot more entertaining than the first two. I take back what I said about this game not being good enough for this site. :P Actually, most of the time it feels like Donkey Kong Country, but without the annoying bonus stages... I hope you can finish the last few levels.

mz: any suggestions?
I suggested Bomberman in my first post. :P What I'd like is any game where every bot would behave differently. Those puzzle games, besides being boring, will all look the same; you won't even have to use creativity at all when coding. It'd be just a boring mathematical problem which could be solved with only trial and error. If you want simple games to start, I think even this piece of crap is better than those games. About the framework, I leave that to those who know. :P I'd be happy with only copy pasting to a single file, as DarkKobold suggested.

I play most of my games from the DVD/CD-ROM drive, so that shouldn't be a problem. Try using the same CDR settings I use: Recommended PCSX Configuration for TASing (pay special attention to "Interface"). Also, you may try using other CDR plugins. I've tested "Xeven's CDR Plugin" and it works great for me.

Well Bomberman does sound fun, but if we're doing multiplayer we'd definitely need a framework to account for not knowing which player you are in advance like Xkeeper was saying...
I hope I'm missing something here, but shouldn't this be as simple as:
mzPlayer=3;

switch (mzPlayer){
  case 1:
    mzRamX=0x709875;
    break;
  case 2:
    mzRamX=0x705829;
    break;
  case etc etc etc
}

if (mzRamX < 10)
  joypad.set(mzPlayer,right);
I don't see how multiplayer games are a problem. If you can't do this basic stuff, maybe you shouldn't even bother to join the contest. Anyway, I think puzzle games are really boring. If we end up picking Arkanoid, Tetris, Dr. Mario, Klax, Loopz or Q*bert, I guess I'll skip this one and wait for another game (hopefully entertaining to watch and which requires at least a little bit of creative programming).

I agree, this game is very repetitive and long. The only good points about it are its graphics and music (and it's an easy game to TAS :P). I don't think it could ever get accepted on this site, but I love watching these videos anyway (I played this game a lot back then too).

Lua World Championships 1990. Then we could find someone with photoshopping skills to change "Nintendo" to "Lua" on this image, and then use it as our logo: If we can find someone with even better PS skills, we could update it to "Lua World Championships 2008" or something.

The only way I can make Sir VG's movie go out of sync is using "Eternal SPU plugin 1.50" and its default settings, so make sure you're not using it. If that doesn't help, post your complete settings here or on the PCSX thread and I'll take a look.

EDIT: I was doing something stupid before, I should sleep better before testing... Anyway, I was able to really reproduce it this time. It seems the drift is only by 1 frame in my case, no matter what I do. Also, everytime I load the savestate of that black screen, this message appears on the console output:
CdRead: sector error
CdRead: retry...
I've tried different CDR plugins and they're all the same, so it seems it's a bug on PCSX's core side. Ah, yes. I was able to reproduce it. I think it's related to the "never try to save/load a savestate during a "now loading" screen" desync, but I will investigate anyway. There always seems to be some kind of desync when you save/load on these screens, probably caused by some variable which isn't correctly saved or something. It's very hard to fix, because every plugin saves more than 10 different variables on each savestate, plus the emulator itself saves a lot more. So, I probably will never be able to fix this...
Atma wrote:
Also, sadly I encountered the same kind of desyncs that occurred when pcsx was first rerecording enabled when I was using eternalspu. this is a disappointment as it has the best sound quality by far :(

Not in the near future, I think. There are alternative ways of doing this at the moment, but they require multiple movie files (1 for each disc). It's on my to-do list, but not a high-priority for now.

Looks good so far, Sir VG. I've only watched your WIP1, but you were already ~300 frames faster than my old crappy attempt (we didn't even have frame advance back then, Richter movements were really difficult to perform in slow motion...). Your WIP2 link is broken, I think this is the correct one: SOTN w/ Richter, WIP2. I'll watch it later and see if I can comment something. By the way, I think pirate_sephiroth is working on a Richter's run too, but I've only seen a movie where he enters "Richter", so maybe I'm wrong. :P
