Praetarius3 is right. In this case, Praetarius3 and Trangix have been making efforts on officially released version day by day. To begin with, a TAS of official version has not been published. I personally want to watch 3-player controllable version. So it’s my ego and I’ll never submit but provide smvs. This game may be hex-edit friendly at least in simple segments. I should have inputted minimally for we can easily share smvs.

I started tas of this game in Carlie’s quest with 3-player controllable patch and several other patches. Of course, I’m not going to submit. In the first place hack is prohibited. To watch on snes9x: 1. patch v1.01 of English translation patch on (J) rom. (2. add header.) 3. patch 3-player controllable patch. 4. patch changing titlescreen patch to SoM2. 5. patch improvement patch. Enjoy. Streaming is also available on nicovideo. (account necessary) Maybe I should register youtube and encode it.

Was this already mentioned somewhere? (I mean Kevin dealing tech damage on a normal attack)...
It is a new glitch. Great! It seems useful but it makes TASing more difficult. One of Kevin’s punches is missing. Though it seems hard to cause this glitch, is it possible to hit with both punches?

neo_omegon: what I understand from you list is that (almost) every boss has a "guaranteed" attack that he wants to use at 50% health and one at 25%; at least the first one can be skipped by pushing them into <25% to overwrite it with the second. The second seems to be unavoidable (compare your gorva fight from 2nd page) thanks to their casting-state-godmode.
Yeah, action patterns of other bosses are written on njoy, Japanese walkthrough site. I was concerned about those which were not written there so I checked them. BTW, this script by FractalFusion is very useful, although you may already know. edit: This is not faster but this is likely to add entertainment value. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1420122685/SD3%20%28J%29%20movement.smv Note: Sometimes it is slower. (e.g. Opening a door) edit2: I wonder if infinite normal attacks with SELECT/START work like ones with L/R trangix did in his FMH.

I didn’t need fast-forward. The run is very artistic. I’ve never seen such a Mario not hurrying in 8-1. It’s very entertaining getting 1-up in 8-2 and dodging hammer in 8-3. I personally more enjoyed than walkathon or something else. Yes from me.

I uniquely played through the game with savestate abuse to see what the run would be like. I also watched some player's video. I learned several things. Genova: First you should beat attendants in order to make the animation of power up shorter. Booskaboo and Flammie: Use downarrow key. Desert and Snowfield: Whichever you first go, you should go through both places at night. It takes a while to beat enemies. Use dreamsee herb, take a rest at inn or plan to get there at night. When you set up glitched Kevin, taking damage isn’t necessary. When glitched Kevin gains his lvl in wolf form, he temporarily loses his glitched power until screen transition or using a dreamsee herb. You should avoid his lvl up in mandatory fights where you can’t run away. If you take Duran, you can buy equipments at Pedan except for Kevin w/o losing glitched Kevin. GBs: I beat in order of Wind, Moon, Light, Earth, Wood, Ice and Fire by reference to RaneofSoTN’s order. It looks good. I used a dreamsee herb at Tree Sea of Wonder. I reached Pedan in daytime. Maybe Xan Bie should have been beaten earlier. I couldn’t defeat him before his fire ball. After you beat Doran you cannot use wind drum where you appear, where you fight against Lugar. You have to plan in order not to gain Kevin’s lvl after you beat him. At the battle against Mispolm running away from tentacle might be the fastest way. To do so, you can avoid their magic and special attack. Getting papa poto's claw from papa poto was a little difficult. It took no less than 200 frames. He also drops ??? seed, puipui grass and poto oil so getting from silver knight would be easier and faster. It seems possible to be invincible against physical attacks w/o L/R according to around 1:40 of this video by Beastly242. Count of the Evil Eye and Beautiful Beast have Earth as their common weakness. Though the animation of diamond sabre is longer than that of other sabres, you can save item inventory. When you beat the first great demon and check the first skull switch at dark castle, you can shortcut with magical ropes. The number of magical ropes you have to buy is four, though I’ve not checked it firsthand. I checked it via debug room. I played through Carlie’s quest. I didn't mean to go on so long but I hope it would be helpful.

You lose 91 frames at the beginning. Other things look optimal.

They give out their exp the moment they die. Another player cello did a speed run in a single segment. The record is 5hh29mm18ss. I’ll watch it later.

Acoording to TLaG’s guide on GameFAQs, they change after losing a certain amount of HP (~75% -TLaG), but knock them out in one hit before they change and your battle is that much easier (attack techs come to mind). The strengths will have been maxed out around Laurent with stat cap abuse but I think it’s difficult to avoid their transform even with it. In mandatory fights you should avoid three Pakkun Babies appearing.

If you reach Forthena at night, you only have to talk this girl at the pub in order to make the cannon appear. It might be faster but you have to use a Dreamsee Herb before you get a Chibikko Hammer when you progress the game at a normal or a little faster pace. Autofire seems to stop the characters and the enemies controlled by computer. It is of particular note at the battles against Machine Golems and JE in praetarius3’s wip. At Volcano Island Bucca and River Bank Cave it might be slow to progress the game while you beat enemies. Cockatrices and Pakkun Babies are annoying because they transform. It might be faster to run away. I doubt that you change classes at water or fire region even if you fight enough. Str glitch: It tends to work when you beat the enemies in the screen all together. Opening Y-menu might sometimes be inevitable.
trangix wrote:
...which is faster to get Ondine or Salamander?...
It depends on your strategy. Unless you use a Dreamsee Herb, you will go one of those places in daytime and the other at night. If you’d like to fight against Gold Bulettes, you have to go to desert at night. The armor shop is near to access at Sultan but where you first go should comprehensively be decided.

Ah, this may be written as “重ね(性能の入れかわり)” on this site. I’ve not pointed it out, sorry. I don’t perfectly understand it. I thought each lvl1 tech should be used twice with L/R but I may be wrong.

I made another smv. I showed how to be invincible against physical attacks by using L/R. It works until the invincible character uses lvl1 tech again but you can repeat this trick. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for wolf form of Kevin. That’s all what is important written on the Japanese site I linked in my past post, I think. There are other techniques but I don’t think them useful. Weapon cancel or skipping weapon drawing animation means skipping these two animations. The left happens when you begin a fight and the right happens when you end or run away a fight. This is originally discovered by trangix. My inputs may be excess and may not be optimal. I think A-button and null input plays an important role. Double normal attacks: There are extra frames so you don’t have to follow my inputs strictly. And there is the other way to pull double normal attacks by using L/R instead of holding A.
praetarius3 wrote:
Gorva... has just exactly the same luxury then our characters; while you are casting you can't die, only afterwards.
Yeah, so I think that you can’t avoid a magic or a special attack if it is reserved but you can avoid it if it is not reserved. I also showed three other techniques in my Gorva smv. First look Kevin at the beginning of the fight. I was able to skip the weapon drawing animation as trangix did. The way is inputting (AB), null and its repeat. These inputs have to be exactly done. If you would not like to swing, you have to stop these inputs accurately. (It isn’t showed in that smv.) This trick is useful for holding A and direction is probably slower at times and it doesn’t work at the beginning of boss battles. Second Kevin continues attacking by using L/R. Last Kevin uses his lvl1 tech twice in a row with L/R. BTW, autofire is useful contrary to my thought. When you load a savestate, you switch odd/even frames to even/odd frames which you’d like to input the buttons. This enables you to optimize the movie with only one rerecording, though some might dislike autofire. @RaneofSoTN: Oh I see. The defence of the GBs is roughly 130-180 and defence down reduces only 1/3 1/5 of their defence. You are right.

When you buy equipments, Kevin loses his glitched power. So the last timing you can buy equipments is before Sand Fortress Navarre. It might be hard to get through with lower defence. Archdemon: Using Moon Sabre at the final battle is simple wild ass guess. It will probably be bad with low level. Archdemon changes his weakness. It’s necessary to be researched. Ah, I just had an idea. Is it possible to beat him by the glitch which is possible to Black Rabite? (Darkness Coin then hit.) He may absorb some element and his max HP is 53449. You only have to give 65536 - 53449 = 12087 damage to defeat him. Maybe it’s crappy and cheaper way and I don’t strongly recommend.

This should put you (if you followed me) with defence down by Wind (Moon shouldn't need it, ...
Hmm, I thought the Moon didn’t have any weakness, so the diffence down is necessary. Why do you think so? About GBs, here is my tips: -Lady Bee at Lamp Flower Woods drops Bee's Eye, which is substituted for diffence down, though it will probably be slower. -If you beat the Wind first, you get 22664 luc. If you beat him last, you get 31688 luc. The difference is about 10000 luc. Of course, his HP is high so you should calculate the money you need and beat him earlier. On the other hand, the Wind one is relatively easy one though he is not easier than the Fire one, so you won’t have difficulty beating him later. -The Light should be third or later, if you get a Papa Pot's Claw. -Light, Ice and Fire have mandatory fights, IIRC. You have to defeat Papa Pot at the Light. -At the Ice and the Fire, Sword Master is annoying for he uses a Sabre at the beginning. You have to manage so that he can’t appear. -If you continue evading from a tentacle at the Wood one, they don’t use magic while the character evading can’t attack. -When a character is killed on the “0 exp to level up” condition, you gain a level. -I heard Kevin didn’t lose his glitch'd power on condition that he was wolf form during a battle when you gain a level, though I have not checked it. About Gorva's test: Great! Almost all the bosses have their own attack when their HP becomes 1/4 of their max HP, such as FMH’s Heal Light, Gorva’s all-ranged Evil Gate. If you use light coins in a row and you make his HP 0, you can skip the attack. This might be a bit difficult and could sometimes be slower.

Wow, a SDA’s runner is here. Nice to meet you. I know you. I’ve been lurking your thread on SDA. I haven’t registered SDA. I accidentally have your smvs(It is not downloadable now). It’s very useful. Thanks.

I made a smv about it. Here. -> http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1932498791/Seiken3%20%28J%29%20AT.smv In this movie I made Lise pull the glitch. This may be a TAS only trick for it is a bit difficult by hand. This movie is identical with a trangix’s wip. Mine is slower. I’ll make a smv with the glitch by using L/R next.

You mean a Moon Coin? I know it's possible to make the battle end after the first form, but not right off the bat.
No. The effect of the item is Moon Sabre to everyone. If you strictly follow the TAS rule, it would be the fastest way to get a movie end, though it may be impossible and the movie may be going to look queer one.

I'm pretty sure this is already used in the very first battle with Hawk. It's also been discovered that there's a way to have Duran use infinite techs (although it only ever seems to hit once, despite the two swings).
There is another way to pull a lvl1 tech twice by using L/R button. You can see it at the battle of FMH in trangix's wip on nicovideo. Performing a lvl2 tech twice seems to be longer but at the Dark Castle you have to fight a bunch of enemies. It might be useful. Evil Shaman will be annoying one. With this glitch, changing to be the class that has a tech which is whole range might be one option. Infinite techs happen at the battle of Jewel Eater, but I don't know the exact occasion, though the wip is so fast that it is not necessary.

Well, apart from the battle it’s improvable from the start. And you seem to use autofire at times through your wip, but it’s unfavorable. Autofire sometimes cause one frame delay. I tend to be strict about the degree of optimization especially in the game I know well, but I also know you do make efforts to make the run. It’s very difficult to make the TAS of this game. Your TASing pace is fast and re-recording counts are relatively small. Do you use some specific feature, say luascript, when you make the run? About the new battle of FMH, it’s wonderful. Almost all the audience will be satisfied that it was beaten before bubble breath. If you try to make a perfectly optimized run, it won’t be completed. Although I pointed it was improvable from the start, I suggest you first complete the run and then refine it. It is ideal that there is not any waste, say surplus goods, missing attack and so on, though it may be nearly impossible. There is a site where useful techniques are written in Japanese. Non-Japanese players don’t tend to know them, I guess. About skipping drawing weapons there are three ways. Two of them are written there. The other discovered by trangix, which Riese did in part2 of his wip as soon as she left Jyad, is not written there. There are other techniques there. Special attacks, whether it is lvl1 or lvl2/3, can be done twice successively, for example. I’ll make smvs with these useful techniques later.

I can’t understand why on earth this game seems popular while it was released only in Japan. This game is truly a bad game for TASing. The language is Japanese you don’t like. It has too many and long cutscenes and laggy menu. The sound is bad on emulator. The battle system is worse than that of SoM1. You can’t evade magic attack. The boss strategy will be the same: just boost allies, degrade the enemy, then attack. It would seem to be boring. And you have to control multi characters, which is very difficult. The RAM addresses are variable, which annoys you. This seems unsuitable for this site. Yeah, anyway, welcome to TASVideos, praetarius3. I was thinking about TASing this game, too. I thought Carlie was the best main character because of the short Opening, no cutscene in the first cave, re-load cancel technique, which made up for her weak offense, and the weakest final boss. Plus, you don’t have to buy healing item. I planned so that I would not buy any healing item nor open item depository, though I haven’t tested it yet. Well, about your wip, you beat Machine Golems and Jewel Eater very fast. I was very surprised. But about other things, they are not optimized. Maybe this is a test run, isn’t it? You didn’t have to talk to Bon Voyage in the house when you first met him. You only had to talk to him at the yard. You should have bought two Magical Ropes for you can use one at the mana-stone-room after beating Tzenker. This mistake occurred in SDA’s run, too. I was disappointed to see it. And I suspect there is a better way to manipulate the stat cap without opening Y-menu. Another player, trangix, is making the run, too. His run is available on nicovideo and well optimized and used many techniques you don’t know, beginning with cancelling armory. He beat Full Metal Hugger before Bubble Breath. I recommend you register the site and watch it. And single segment on the real console by しんいち(Shinichi) is also available there. The time when he saved the game at the last savepoint was 5hh08mm32ss and the time when he beat the final boss was 5hh36mm45ss. I recommend you watch it, too. Also, in another video Bill and Ben were defeated before splitting up. And this technique skipping a cutscene was discovered recently. Sorry, don’t use this trick. You can’t progress normally.[/b] I know some addresses, though you may know. Here.

And I have some tips and ideas. Here. -Day time takes 288 seconds and Night time takes 192 seconds in this game. -The second Machine Golems have wind as their weakness, of course you may know as well. -Land Umber also has fire as its weakness. The animation of Flame Sabre is shorter than that of Wind Sabre. I suggest you use Flame Sabre. -Also due to the shorter animation, Flame Sabre against Count of the Evil Eye and Ice Sabre against Isabella. -Manipulate to get Papa Pot’s Claw and Demon’s Claw and use each of them against Sable Fur and the second Full Metal Hugger. -Use Demonic Wolf's Soul at the final battle, then movie end, though I haven’t tested it. edit: Sorry. Some value was wrong. I corrected them.

Around 14,600th frame? It happened to me, too. I downloaded the smv again, then it synchronized perfectly. It's odd. About the glitch: Maybe knbnitkr will explain someday, but he seems to be busy at work. His encodes on nicovideo explain glitches perfectly, but the language is Japanese. :P I’ll complement the glitch shortly. When LP (Life Point) is down to zero, the character disappears forever. When all the party is defeated, the game will be over. But when you are defeated at an Abyss Gate Guardian Battle at the same time all the characters’ LPs are down to zero, you will be an invisible person and then you can do various things. This is the glitch. BTW, you may take the number of re-recording counts for small, but he researched the best RNGs according to the last part of his encode and also made a test run available on nicovideo. Fortunately, there is a translation patch unlike RS1 and 2 (Romancing SaGa 1 and 2) and the time for setting up the glitch is shorter than that in RS2. I used to be immersed in playing this RS series. I wished these games had had been officially released overseas. I took several screenshots in this run which I thought funny. The book, “Snow Country (雪国)” written by Kawabata Yasunari who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1968, said in the opening sentence, “The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country.” “Donkey and Diddy came out of the long tunnel into the snow country.” And flying monkeys and the funny final battle.
