I just set a new personal best in Nanaca Crash: 12799.75. Two glasses-specials in a row, which I extended using my red aerials, and was nearly stopped at about 11k (my old record) by two slow downs before I hit another special to give me another k. I *should* be working on my English paper, so I'll check out the tactics thing when I have time.

Three thoughts here: 1) I think cutting out the waiting would interrupt the flow of the game more than leaving it in: There's a segmented MM2 run out there somewhere that does something similar (only between levels), and it just feels "wrong," because I've played it so many times and just expect the new weapon screen to show up. 2) I'm with Kyrsimys on the music: the ambiance is a large part of Metroid, and adding in music would radically change the feel of the game, even if it was done well. There is/was an SMW vid circulating that used music, and it seriously distracted from the actual playing. 3) Flamewars. "OMG he admited he edited teh .aiv! it's FAKE! FAAAAK!" We don't want any.

The only entertaining reason to do the special stages is to get the emeralds, and thereby get Super Sonic. The special stages themselves are pretty boring. Getting perfects keeps you in the special stages much longer than you really need to be there.

The big pile of random thoughts made while watching; 1) Do you switch to hard difficulty? 2) I think there's a lot of things you can do sooner, mostly to do with whipping, falling, etc. 3) The random stuff you do while waiting is increasingly annoying, and some looks *really* bad. For example, you jump and whip the phonograph things twice during the first boss. This is really an opinion thing, but it just seems like you lack focus. 3.5) The first boss can be done faster because you can shoot the box after you whip it twice. I'm not quite sure how the aiming works but if you shoot right and then down+right you'll hit it. It's possible to get a box every single time this way (you only get phonographs if there's a box out there). 4) Andy Asteroids: Pick up all the blue things if you can, imo. Think of it like the absurd time bonuses in Sonic and Kid Chameleon. 5) The gates of Heck, I think can be handled much better. Try jumping while whipping them so you can move forward as soon as you hit them instead of waiting for the animation to end while standing. 6) Your handling of the ghost cats looks pretty sloppy. I think you can get them much faster. 7) Avoiding the big cats in the tubes, it seems like you wait longer than is really necessary. Do you move forward on the first possible frame? 8) You get hit driving the bubbles. Why? 9) Can you kill the snot guy in the first two rounds as fast as you do in round three? 10) Why do you jump off the conveyor belts that are moving your way? It seems like running on them is faster than jumping. 11) The thing with Pete and the meteor showers was already mentioned (Can you whip them?), but there's also a 1-up you skip even though you obviously have a lot of waiting time on your hands. 12) Is gliding as fast, horizontally, as running? There might be a few more places you can use it to your advantage. 13) But also make sure you aren't gliding too much if you don't have to. In the narrow passage right before the second warp, it seems you don't need to be gliding as much as you are.

English: "You scored 100% Beginner, 86% Intermediate, 87% Advanced, and 77% Expert!" Google: "100% accuracy and 0% speed!" Although it told me I took an "undefined" amount of time to take it, so I can't say if that's any indication of anything.

"meh" is what you say when you don't want to say either yes or no.

I think the subject was originally brought up when someone wanted to see a "glitch-free" version of Rock/Mega man. At least it'd seem more different than the two Prince of Persia runs.

I think that looks really good. You look much more "in control" and take a lot more "risks" than what I saw of the old version (That one diamond after killing the second bug, especially). Oh, and I do know that in the C64 version it's possible to pass by a bug in a two-square hall with good timing/luck; see if you can do the same on the NES.

I will always think of Boulderdash as a C64 series (which I still play time to time). I can only beat Boulderdash 2, though, mostly because it's the most reliable of the series.

It's... okay. I guess. Well, no, I take it back. This is of the same standard as the first few Sonic 2 submissions, which is to say it's dowright awful compared to what you could/should be doing. Sonic is not for the lazy.

Any particular reason you took the far power point before the top one? I don't think you need more than the one fight to win.

Regarding JMNN, did you try having both Erik and Baleog ride Olaf's shield on the last glide?

Can you crash on top of Olaf's shield and then lower the shield to cancel the animation?

That would require including a savestate in the .gmv. It might be more prudent to at least call it a "record clip" option (possibly with a new file extension) to keep the two separate.

...Still not dead, although I've restarted with frame advance and a couple modifications... But damn do I need some motivation. I also need to figure out what it is that makes the doors tick. Maybe I should do the doorless run first, to see exactly what the most optimal places to use doors are. Random notes: Durations (give or take 3 seconds): (un)Fall -> regain control: 5 seconds Rocket Skates: 15 seconds. Boombox, Elevator*: 20 seconds. Icarus Wings, Raincloud: 30 seconds. Hi-tops: 50 seconds. Most every other present: 60 seconds. Presents don't age in elevators. *: Thus, a minimum of eight minutes (24 elevators) must be spent in the elevators. As a comparison, my v1 was a little less than 21 minutes, making over a third of it waiting in the elevator. Straight horizontal movement is 1.3 times faster than diagonally walking the same distance either horizontally or vertically. Roads multiply running speed by about 1.2 (Ergo, roads aren't faster if you have a straight shot to wherever you're going).

Maybe there needs to be an option for the read only to be by default checked or not checked? I, too, have overwritten movies by accident because of this.

Only one thing troubles me... The floating waterfall level, you know Olaf doesn't can just glide across instead of climbing up the ladder to go across the bridge, right?

This may be a bit unrelated, but why doesn't anybody like doing runs with emeralds in them?
Because getting the emeralds is an incredibly time-consuming process, requiring fifty rings and a stop at a checkpoint, plus a fixed-rate bonus stage. Seven times.
