I don't know if it's just me, or if it's cause I'm new at TASing, but after about an hour (sometimes longer) of using the frame advance, when I get off the computer, it feels like everything is going in frame advance speed for about 5 or 10 minutes. It's an odd feeling, but it happens when I've been working on my run for too long. I was wondering if anybody else gets this?
I've never experienced this effect, but it's often happened that while I'm tasing my mind will wander, and for several minutes I continue (usually luck manipulating) without having any clue what I've just done, or if I had actually found what I was looking for and missed it. Perhaps one of the downfalls of having an 'automated' manipulation process (I've actually calculated an average of 15 re-records per minute for a one hour session (over 900 total)). This usually signifies when it's time to take a break.

I think you misunderstand. The point is not that the run was unentertaining or in and of itself without merit. Simply that without clearly defined objectives, it would be quite impossible to produce a 'better' run which would obsolete this one, should it be published. To quote once again:

Many entertaining parts. I wonder if some of the new techniques used (such as the trash can throw to cross the pit, dying at the same moment the boss does to avoid having to leave the building, etc.) couldn't be used to improve the existing run. As my previous statement indicates, I do not find this movie to be an improvement to the existing run. DarkKobold summed up my thoughts rather concisely:

Voted very much no. This belongs in the thread for "do something funny" not a published run on this site. Even though some parts were enjoyable, I don't see how following a girl around is "superplay" nor is randomly punching the other player, and other such ridiculous parts. It will be entirely upsetting if this movie obsoletes the current one.

Many people accept that either God or Satan can respectively "speak through" or "possess" an individual. How, then, do we know that the bible wasn't written by someone possessed by Satan?
The men who wrote these books knew Jesus personally, and saw him die. Not just a normal death, but by being hung upon a cross. According to the law of Moses, any man who hang upon a tree was accursed of God (see Deuteronomy 21:22-23). A dead, crucified Messiah could not possibly have been the true Messiah, much less the Son of God. These men, dejected and cowardly as they were (going so far as to deny ever having known Jesus - not in a court of law - but to a common samaritan woman!) went on to become the greatest advocates of the religion, known for the piety, consistency, and most dying as martyrs for their beliefs. Their texts universally denounce evil works and Satan himself. Were their inception a plot by Satan, who is clearly depicted as the enemy of Jesus in those very texts, it certainly was not a very good plot. Also, I think that the fact that the disciples were convinced of the ressurection is one of the strongest arguments that it actually happened. If it hadn't, they certainly would have known.

That's not so much of an excuse not to try. I suspect this run could be improved by much more than 1-2 minutes, and that alone just through manipulation. Route or strategy changes could also be found to be beneficial. If I knew this games even half as well as the previous generation, I might be inclined to give it a go.

Luck manipulation for random encounters could also use a mild update. I would be willing to do a write up on some of these sections. I'm currently on vacation at the moment, but I do have some idle time during the day.

Post subject: VBA v19 vs. v20. How to compare runs?

So, VBA v20 had a GB core overhaul, which in general, seems to be an improvement... ...except it's not, at least in terms of frame count. Upon a new glitch discovery, I was intending to redo my Pokémon Blue run, but I find that with v20, I'm losing frames absolutely everywhere. At first, I thought it was just going to be at the intro screens, due to a longer startup time, but it's not just there. Every dialog seems to lose a frame, entering or exiting a building seems to lose 4 frames, etc. A little over one minute into the run, I'm already 40 frames behind, and the only difference is that I've theoretically made 7 frames worth of improvement. My fear is that even though the run should be a minute or so faster, the timing difference in v20 will eat most, if not all of that. The question is, if a slower v20 run which theoretically should be faster than an existing v19 run were to be submitted, would it be accepted? Alternatively, would a run made with v19 still be accepted?

So, how exactly is this done? I can't seem to get the file to work (save error or something).
When you talk with the Youngster who leads you to the Gym, if you close the last dialog with the B button (A does not work, for some reason), you will be able to open the start menu before he leads you there (although, you won't be able to move the pointer, so you need to have it at Save beforehand). Then, save, and restart. Afterwards, the game will think he's already lead you there, and he'll come back, and you'll have the conversation again. This time, let him lead you. Through the save process, his position gets messed up, and when you come back to Route 3, he won't be standing where he should be, but rather 5 or so tiles to the north. If you walk through the tile where he normally stands, you can continue on to Route 3 without being stopped. EDIT: Also, be sure to do your shopping beforehand, because entering a building resets his position.

Why are we discussing a glitch that doesn't even work (without hard reset)? Something that might actually be worthwhile investigating is if Lance from the Elite Four could be skipped. I've always had a suspicion that this could be possible, but was never able to find anything (the B-Start glitch that hanzou used doesn't work either). If he could be skipped, this would also skip the final Rival battle, which is a double bonus. It's worth noting that you can use Surf to go through the statues in his room.

Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I wonder why it only works if you use B to close the final dialog. Very strange indeed, but I'm not complaining. This also implies a route change in Veridian Forest. It's no longer necessary to fight the first trainer, because I don't need Ember so quickly (the Gym would be impossible without it). This causes an additional round of attacks on the second trainer in Veridian forest, 3 additional rounds on the first Caterpie and Route 3, and 2 additional attacks on the first Weedle. At that point, Charmader learns Ember, and all is good. This also may alieviate the need to fight the Lass and travel back to Pewter, although I'm uncertain of that. My guess is that either way Charmander will be level 13 after the Mt. Moon Lass, but if there is a level difference, doing the Lass trick would be worthwhile. I'll be working on a new WIP asap.

I was quite entertained. I even laughed during the boss battle at around 4:30. The levels and bosses seem very tightly optimized as well. Great work.

In the submission description this is listed correctly. This was probably taken from the last movie description, and was overlooked when it was published.

Why it desyncs in v20? Does it abuse some emulator bugs like in FODA's SML2 movie? I hope it's not the case... Otherwise, I don't understand why it has been published and not SML2.
I started making this run before v20 was released. That's the only reason for the choice. It desyncs on the intro screen, because v20 takes a few frames longer to initialize, for some reason. I tried hex editing in these few frames at the beginning, but the luck manipulation was all off, and I didn't want to redo the progress that I had, as the beginning requires a lot of manipulation.
