Nice catch, FODA. I guess that all of that playing whack-a-mole has taken its toll on the Noid. Yes vote from me.

I just found a new bug. I don't know exactly how I did it. It appears that you can jump through floors like in Castlevania 2. I wasn't recording, but I made a savestate right after. I haven't duplicated it yet. This is right after collecting the first mighty coin. http://lingcog.iit.edu/~scubed/mbomb_floor.zip

I forgot to mention: In 7-2, the fireblock that has the sphinx below it seems to be different than all of the other blocks in the game. It can be removed without making you move upwards. I wasn't able to do that with other blocks.

Wow. Thank you. Does orange mean the boxes that you have to be blue and jump on to open?

I am already doing that after the advice that you gave previously. Unfortunately, fceu glitched out and removed all of the movies and savestates. (It set them to savestates and movies of right after power on.) The last backup that I made is after area 5, so that is where I am right now. It is always important to remember to make backups.

Thanks. I think that I have mighty coins figured out. The main problem is having enough so I can turn orange twice in area 12's maze. After that there are many mighty coins that I don't even need. I already have a plan for which ones are the closest to the path and the easiest to collect. Now that you have the data, can you have it actually rendered as a map? That would make it much easier to check against. Also, any luck on the doors that we don't know how to open?

You are right. I forgot to press down. Good catch! Thank you! It would have been very annoying if I had to go back and fix that later.

Here is a movie of me trying to do that: http://lingcog.iit.edu/~scubed/mbomb_3e.zip (Temporary link) Movie 1=With jumping over and jumping again Movie 2=Waiting Movie 3=Manipulating As you can see, I get right behind the mummy, then have to wait. If I jump, I can get both bombs, like you said, but then I have to wait to be able to jump again to get the 2 upper bombs, which takes a really long time, even longer than just waiting for the mummy. So, that method doesn't seem to work as far as I understand it.

I don't understand your advice. Please elaborate. In your movie and Randil's movie, you wait for the mummy to move out of the way. In mine, I waste time manipulating him to appear on the opposite side. Since mine doesn't involve waiting by standing in place, and they both take the same amount of time, I think that I will have the mummy appear on the other side. Also, I found a way to save a mighty coin in area 12's maze. I can conserve jumps so I am stay orange from when I get the 2nd crystal to the room with 2 might coins and lots of boxes arranged vertically (12-36). This makes my movie need 2 less mighty coins than the previous one.

Due to popular demand, I will try to limit the number of newlines I insert within a paragraph. For 1-E, it looks like my method of making a small jump is faster. For 2-E, I am using Randil's path. Randil: For 3-1, how do you fall so quickly after getting the box on the tree that you are able to open the box with the coin in it? I keep on landing after the box. Is it just hitting jump at the right time? I have tried 3-E many different ways now. It seems to take the same amount of time either way. Either the mummy appears on the right (like in the other 2 movies) and you have to wait for it to move, or I go slightly out of my way to make the mummy spawn on the other side, which takes the same amount of time but there is no standing in one place. I have not found a way around the mummy when it is in the way. If you jump to get the second bomb on the upper right platform, you either land on the mummy or fall off the platform. You are too low to get the 2 upper bombs and are not falling fast enough to land on the platform. Does anyone have any ideas?

I type like this out of habit because wrapping doesn't work the same in different media. This way, my text is always wrapped. Also, text becomes unreadable if you put a long line without whitespaces in it. (It would be nice if there was a CSS attribute for autolinebreak or autohypenate that was supported in browsers. (I think CSS3 has something like that.))

Ugh, the keyboard that I am using now does not support Up+Left+A simultaneously. I guess that I will have to change my bindings... Randil: Thanks for your movie. You did 2-E better than I did. I think that I will do it your way. Guybrush: For the pillar, do you mean 1-1? Are you sure? I don't think that I slowed down at all at that part. I will try the 1-E a few different ways to find which way is faster. Ditto for 3-E. I will do some careful timings to find out which way is better. For doing the practice run, I just decided to try it on my own to see what I come up with before copying others. It is quite likely that yours are better. Let the copying begin!

Here is my practice run. Please give me comments. http://lingcog.iit.edu/~scubed/mbomb_1.zip If you see any shorter routes, please tell me. I got 1 mighty coin too many because I didn't realize that I could make it to the princess while still blue. I also tried to reveal as many hidden blocks as possible. In 11-E, I get the P because otherwise a mummy appears in my way on top. In the other areas, I dodge it.

In the final areas where you get the present vehicles, it can be done much faster. With the flying ones, such as jetpack and UFO, you can fly at the same level as the water to go to the other sections skipping much of the map. Other than that, good job.

I knew in this game that a lot of parts depend on how many times you pressed A or jumped. For example, the changing of colors and the torture room. It looks like pressing A also controls which enemy the mummies turn into. If you just walk and don't press A, they all turn into the same type. This should make it easier to manipulate the monsters so they aren't a problem. Although it doesn't really matter, the door in 11-5 that takes you back isn't a normal open door. It is a trigger door. The trigger is coming in from the previous map. That's why it plays the animation when you get there. If you die, it won't open. Just an observation. It isn't worth changing the map for. Does anyone know what the GDV score is in the game? It seems odd. Is it just some measure of progress?

Questions: 1) Are you planning on using the warps, or doing it warpless? 2) Why do you hit all of the big scrolls instead of just collecting them? The only scroll that you will probably need is the black running one, so this probably doesn't matter. 3) I think that you missed some hidden multipliers already. They can make the eating contest go much faster. Is this intentional?

For the map, there is a 4-X marked with unknown access. To get in there, all you have to do is jump on the door. Since you don't want to do the best ending run, I am starting to think about doing it myself. I should be able to work on it around Christmastime.

To Guybrush: You shouldn't get so discouraged because of a setback. There are all sorts of mistakes to make. Chances are your first version of the movie wouldn't be perfect. Usually before making the full movie, you should go through the game normally just to make sure that the path works the way that you expect. As you go through the game, you find all sorts of little tricks to make it better. I'm sorry that you get so upset. I hope that you reconsider. To Kapow: That is a very nice map. What is the rabbit room that you have marked? Is that that strange empty room? What is it for? What does it do? You should post your map to gamefaqs so other people playing the game will see it.

Has anyone noticed that the little song that it plays after you collect the last person before beating the game to get the best ending is the same as the song in Star Force for when you get the rapid fire powerup? It is a slightly different version of the song. Both games are made by Tecmo. That is a piece of trivia for today.

Here are some screenshots. I hope that they help. Since I don't know if you know where the 2nd crystal is, I posted some screenshots of it as well. http://lingcog.iit.edu/~scubed/mbomb_scoin.zip Don't forget that color changes are based on how many times you press A. I switched to using the good version of the rom. Getting the 1st crystal was much easier now! (The door to the 1st crystal room would be randomly open or unopenable in the bad version that I was using.)

How do you get Rush to disappear like that? I don't see it listed on the Megaman tricks page.

I used to play this game a lot when I was little. I couldn't beat the final area. With save states, I have gotten the best ending which requires the S coins. (I was never able to consistantly trigger the door to the first crystal, though.) I just finished classes, except for a final exam, so hopefully I can go through the game again soon and post screenshots for you.

I made a really quick movie: http://lingcog.iit.edu/~scubed/marioadv.zip It doesn't even seem to need precise timing. I can do it at full speed.

I liked your run. It was very entertaining. However, I am curious about your use of music boxes. You spend a lot of time buying them. In world 6, specifically, you encounter 2 hammer brothers that are on a scrolling border. When the map scrolls, you can skip the hammer brother anyways. Why do you use 2 music boxes there? If this is not clear, I can make a movie demonstrating it. This could probably be taken advantage of in other worlds if you can manipulate where the hammer brothers walk.
