I gather that fsvgm777 is (or will be) working on an encode, so fear not.

Save a state just before quitting the emulator. Play back the movie after later loading the emulator, make sure "read only" is off, and load the state you saved earlier. Voila, you are now continuing recording. Incidentally, there's already a [movie 1750]fairly high quality GoldenEye run[/movie] on the site, besides which Mupen64 isn't exactly the most reliable emulator; if you are getting started with TASing you may want to start elsewhere.

For those wondering - this is presently being uploaded to YouTube for the third fourth time (thank you, YouTube, for variously screwing up the first two three uploads). Since everything else was ready, I decided not to wait. I'll add the link after it finishes and delete this post then.

Funnily enough, I don't consider most of the SMB runs to be particularly interesting, either.

Aqfaq strikes again with another terrible game. This is a prime example of what's been referred to elsewhere as "run right for justice" - nothing more. People around here will know that in the vast majority of cases I don't consider that to be technically interesting enough to be worth TASing, and this isn't an exception. Voting no.

I hope you all realise they timed this announcement to be just after our first Wii TAS was published so we seem less current.

Well when you enter those doors, there's 4 frames of it opening right?? They always take exactly 4 frames for each piece of the door to open/close. So about 16 total. BUT when im frame-stepping through your video, every door piece takes just 1 frame each, 4 total. How did you manage to make that happen?
That's a quirk of our encoding techniques - if you're frame-stepping, duplicate frames are only going to show up once.

An up-to-date encode (i.e. using the new submission file) for everyone: http://www.archive.org/download/NesNutsMilk100ByKlmzIn1406.07/nutsandmilk-tasv2-100p-klmz.mp4 YouTube up above; 512kb in the same place as the above encode.

Hey everyone: Those of you who watch the front page may have noticed runs occasionally appear in the recent movies feed with a moon listed next to them. For those not in the know, the moon indicates a "notable publication" - runs deemed by the publishers to be noteworthy in some respect (generated a lot of discussion, long-awaited runs, first for a platform, etc.) but that do not have stars (the two are mutually exclusive due to the way the site is coded). I've recently added more functionality to the site to track notable publications, such as adding them on to the movie pages and creating [wiki Movies-Notable-Obs]an auto-generated list of them[/wiki] (link includes obsolete movies). I am creating this thread to solicit suggestions for movies that deserve moons (and don't presently have stars). Any publisher (or above) has the ability to set this status, so be sure to convince us why the run is somehow notable.

Now that that's over and done with on my part... I'm under the impression that there's a fairly low gameplay-to-story ratio in play here, and most of the gameplay simply involves one-hit-killing just about everything you face. Now, I take it this isn't what normal play is supposed to look like - far from it, most likely - but it just isn't very interesting to watch at this length. I vote meh (raise your hand if this comes as a surprise to you).

Still watching this, but here's a screenshot I wanted to suggest (note that I grabbed this from YouTube, so don't actually use it; it's from about 22:07 into Disc 3):

This is pretty well the definition of meaningless repetition and boredom. There's basically no technical merit to playing through this game as fast as possible, and no entertainment for the viewer. I agree with a prior comment that this feels like it was submitted two months too late. Voting no.

Posting *why* a run deserves a star rather than just posting a link to it might be helpful for Baxter.

I'm not aware of any such tool that can perform adequately for site purposes. I know some of our encoders previously have used some AVISynth tricks to blend frames together, but our viewers don't like the results. If you do come across anything, let us know.

Is the downloadable video file (AVI) done at a higher frame rate then the Youtube one?
Almost certainly, seeing as YouTube displays at 30fps (or less) and the downloadable videos (which is an MP4 here, not an AVI) are always at the full frame rate of the emulator (here, 60fps).

I must say that I am thoroughly disappointed by the lack of glitches in this game. It's as if Nintendo carefully tested and patched the game to ensure there were no serious exploits! Don't they know that's the best way to play the game?
I realise you're not being entirely serious with your post there, but this being a relatively new game it's possible that the glitches just haven't been discovered yet - think of Mega Man 9 and the Concrete Shot zip - even newer games can have glitches.

Here's a downloadable encode (finally): http://www.archive.org/download/WiiMegaMan10megaManByDiggidoyoIn3342.37/megaman10-tas-megaman-diggidoyo.mp4 EDIT: after an emulator tweak and some further wrangling, I've reproduced a pixel-for-pixel NES-esque screenshot. See here: I'll probably repeat this for whatever the final screenshot will be.

I have a "512kb" streaming-suitable encode ready. (The regular downloadable encode will be brewing for a while yet). While you wait for that, you can check out the streaming encode (or download it and watch it locally; it works just as well for that) here: http://www.archive.org/download/WiiMegaMan10megaManByDiggidoyoIn3342.37/megaman10-tas-megaman-diggidoyo_512kb.mp4

Here are the two screenshots diggidoyo pointed out above. I also took two more from that same segment which I think make for better screenshots.

SD on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAD8yp_qTL4 It'll take a while for the downloadable encode to finish, but it's churning along, so don't worry.

The 2016 represented there is what's stored within the input file itself. I'd prefer to leave it as it is, but if you really want I can edit the file to remove it.

Encode is on the way, folks, but if you don't want to wait until I have something to show (probably when I wake up tomorrow morning, ~8-9 hours), remember that [post 273329]diggidoyo has most of the run up on YouTube already[/post].

First off, Matroska (MKV) is a container format (so is AVI, for that matter). Our videos are encoded into the H.264 video codec using the x264 encoder and the associated audio tracks are normally encoded to either Vorbis (usually seen/heard as Ogg Vorbis) or AAC. If you want details on our encoding process, take a look at our [wiki EncodingGuide]Encoding Guide[/wiki].
