I've just started an archive.org page for hosting of this and some of Ilari's other encodes on a semi-temporary basis (they will stay there if the movies are accepted, but will otherwise be removed). For this movie: http://www.archive.org/download/SgruntsTasvideosBitBucket/marioluigi-tas-ilari.mp4

Er... why? I checked the encode before publishing it and it appeared to be fine.

adelikat frequently uses both Dropbox and an svn repository on Google Code (there's a changelog on his [wiki Adelikat]user page[/wiki]).

I feel that a run that doesn't complete as much of the game as the Lost Levels run, i.e. including Worlds A-D, might not be the best replacement for what we currently have. I am wondering if there is a way to use a save state or similar to allow access to those worlds in an FDS run.

Many emulators support "background input", i.e. recognising button presses even when the emulator window isn't the main focus. It's my understanding that it is this feature which was used to record multi-run movies.

It may be darker than the other, but it is still not so dark as to start losing detail.

Second of all, you can't really tell that mario is flying across the room, it just looks like he somehow jumped up there. Unlike the pipe screenshot, where you can clearly tell he is in a glitched area, and it is a major change to the previous run, and it is bright. Just my opinion though :)
The fact that Mario is ridiculously far away from the camera should clue the average viewer in that something horribly horribly broken is going on in the picture. Basically, it looks like there's much more going on in my preferred shot than in the "suggested" shot.

What... I... just... We've all hugely anticipated this run, and it's worth the wait. It feels almost completely different than past iterations and is mind-blowing. I also nominate that fifth screenshot (this one) for the screenshot for being the single greatest WTF in the run. And, in case it's not yet obvious, immense Yes vote.

I watched the YouTube run prior to it being submitted and I am glad to see the game destroyed in such a fashion. Yes vote. For the record (and the benefit of our encoders): Ilari has encoded this (and his other runs) already and is looking for somewhere to upload them.

Looks like we'll need a new category for this one! Encoding. EDIT: http://www.mediafire.com/?0cbhewfgntfl52p

I have just uploaded the freshly-released r11.2 to the TASTools repository. r11 releases have much a much friendlier A/V dumping interface and use a new set of stream tools (due to a new format), and I have uploaded Win32 binaries of those to the TASTools repository as well.

Creating [movie 1423]my Sonic 1 GG run[/movie] was extremely cathartic given the immense frustration that game caused me in my younger years. Therefore, it can be quite enjoyable to TAS a game you are familiar with!

Obsoleting a movie with a star automatically inherits the star.

Hi everyone! As you may have seen on the news feed, the new encoding guide (which many of you have seen during the time it lived in my namespace on the wiki) has just been officially launched. If you're looking for that guide, it is in the main namespace now. Have fun with encoding!

TASVideos now has a completely rewritten guide for creating our high quality multimedia files for our movies. It has been three months in the making and contains contributions from many of our current publishers. We are always on the lookout for new encoders! If you are interested in helping out, drop by the Encoders' Corner or ask around in our IRC channel.

I've reset the obsolescence of the other run.

I fail to see the need to make a forum post for every particular nuance of this situation. I further fail to see the need for a large hierarchy of different encoding types for the apparent primary purpose of referring to one's own preferred method as "highest quality" without, at the very least, extremely good feedback (from a technical standpoint or a viewer standpoint) to back up that assertion.

I object to the name of this topic, first and foremost, as it presupposes that we've already adopted the term. Although this is true, in a sense, we've always, recently, referred to all of our encodes as "high quality" (ask, for example, Aktan). Suggesting that something else now constitutes "high quality" discourages our normal encoding efforts and suggests that there's something inherently low quality with our stock encoding process. We already have provisions for naming publications that have multiple resolutions - two of the three movies we've published recently have the vertical resolution of the encode appended to the file name. I view this as informative enough.

r10.16 has just been uploaded to TASTools. A great deal of changes have been made since the last binary release such that I don't know where to begin describing them (perhaps Ilari can do the list justice).

Ah yes, I remember this table. I'd bet everyone of a certain age or above remembers playing this at some point or another. The run got progressively more interesting to watch as more and more pinballs began flying around the field. My only complaint is that it ends sort of abruptly, but it does give well-defined criteria for ending at that point. I say Yes.

I hate to say this, but enough of the game's been broken at this point that it's beginning to lose its entertainment factor. Though I find it interesting that the debug menu can be activated from within normal game conditions, the actual use of it takes out a lot of the fun of, say, the out-of-bounds glitch seen in the previous version of the run, where it's considerably more obvious that you're doing something broken. I need to think some more on how to vote on this and, in the event that it goes on to be published, whether it should be alongside the current run or obsolete it (I think a parallel can be drawn with the Earthbound Zero runs).
