shame SDA doesn't upload the stuff at any higher than 'normal' quality =/.
Uh, yes it does? don't get them through torrents. About him needing to retry a lot, the whole point of a speedrun is to fail a lot of times before getting it right, especially if the run is segmented. Like the example that has been oft cited, one guy over on the quake side of SDA spent 4 hours a day for 3 months optimizing one level. Over 80,000 attempts estimated (probably low). That is dedication that I don't think many people will ever have.

Uploaded to Google Video. Enjoy.
Please change the description so it doesn't make it sound like a real human could match this input for input. Do not use the bullshit "technically" argument either. By putting the description like that, you are denigrating every real human player to the "well, he could do this technically."

Why were any of these ever accepted? I vote for it to be accepted and then adelikat to request that it be taken off the site after obsoleting the other 3 movies. This game is just so bad for a TAS.

Just so you know, those regular enemies that you grabbed-regrabbed for 4 knees only require 1 punch, 2 knees, and a throw to kill. If only punches turns out to be fastest, I'd still like to see some variety with attacks. Surprising us with team throws, grabs, throws etc. would be much better and hardly a time waste as compared to just punching every enemy.

Nice, I had a feeling that this would happen/be possible with the 1st double boss battle, but not with normal enemies.

The other issue you guys need to consider is that there is a submission to SDA that is going to be around the time of guano's movie. Do you really want a movie closer in time to a run on SDA when a much much faster run is available?

Yea i don't think he was going for a completely optimal run of that level. Good find though, are you certain you can't do that earlier in the level against the 1st bosses refight?

In addition to Bisqwit's point, some games do have a separate appeal as a TAS when less programming errors are abused, and in many of those cases, there are multiple runs of that game. Most Legend of Zelda games fall into this category, for example. Laughing_gas, please stop posting stupid shit that doesn't answer the question you're pretending to respond to. It was old six months ago.
2 years ago is more accurate. I agree that I can't stand watching walls scoll by me fast. Whoopdee doo. I can find spots in games to do in real time, its just i end up dying eventually in those games, so it is not impressive to me to sit and watch walls fly by me. I do like when things fighting techniques not intended by programmers are abused (i.e. pause glitching and such).

It was pretty obvious the older run could be improved and yet it was still published. Why go against precedent here?

Ah now i get it. Its 2 player only I guess as long as nothing else is discovered about it. Good find.

... I didn't say that was the reason for my vote. I simply stated that Guano had already been working on one for quite some time. When did I even imply that Guano's run would be better because he was more "well-known"?
If by workiing on you mean restarting every 3 months when something new is found, then yes he is working on it.

1-8 looked really smooth, looks so effortless when you whip swing. Loved how you skipped the enemy in 1-9, that was ridiculous and cool. I knew the boss could glitch out like that for a couple of hits (have had that happen in real time), but I couldn't manipulate it ever. Should have mentioned it so you guys could try it, sorry about that.

I couldn't believe it, but it's possible to skip Mr.X part of the 8th round! Just look at the video (you need Gens+ for watching). [Edit by Bisqwit: No reason to create new topics when an existing one will do just fine! Merged the post into existing thread.]
Use GENS in the future. How exactly does that first glitch work? I can't replicate it myself playing around with it, but i'm not really getting what happens anyways. You seem to grab the pepper, and grab the 2 ladies, and the game just ends? Also, your video files are huge for the length of time shown. Use Xvid or h.264 and use a smallish bitrate (256 maybe) for showing quick examples. Try hosting with filefront, youtube, or google video.

Dude this is improvement....it's faster than previous version. I can't see reason why vote meh -__-
You're right, whats even the point of having a poll when its an improvement? I mean, if its faster its guaranteed to get on the site, right? Why not just say "ok, i improved this, make an avi now?" Oh right, the site is supposed to be about "entertainment" ...

Unfortunately you also forget to turn "quick demo display" to off in the options menu. It takes 2 frames to do and then skips that little short cutscene at the beginning there. Hopefully you can hex edit this in. Both boss battles looked great though, great manipulation on them. One thing I wanted to just let you know is that opening 30 "gem/point containing candles" will give you the blue powered up whip also. This means that there might be some opportunities to take damage to save time if you ever find you have a long space between a boss battle and a regular enemy is in your way. Thinking mostly about level 5 here.

Its 3 seconds and it might take more manipulation to get that to happen than the time it saves. It is much better than the other submissions for this game, and its actually a fast rpg run (i.e. i don't have to watch in 1,000% to not want to cry from boredom). I'll vote yes.

Risk would be interesting to see you luck manipulate dice so that you only take one turn to win. The people over at sillysoft.net will probably love it if its done, as they are always complaining about shitty dice luck (before speedrunning, I was a top ranked risk player over there, the place where the best risk players in the world hang out).

Speedup/slowdown should change the speed in fixed increments instead, be it percent scale (10%, 25%, 33%, 50%, 66%, 75%, 100%, 150%, 200%, 300%, 400%, etc.), or fps scale (5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, etc.), or any other you can come up with
What do you mean by this? Currently the scale is ..., 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, ... i.e. powers of 2. Do you mean there should be more choices? I don't particularly see the value of letting the user fine tune this.
Does this work with vista? It worked on my xp computer fine, but when i load rom, the music plays but the video is still blank.
On my computer with Windows XP, if I use Switch User, then when I log back in, Dega is blank until I load another ROM. Probably not related, but whatever.
the bar shows but the lists won't : impossible to select any option, it's ultra super slow.
Can you see if changing the "overlay" option or making the window smaller helps? Failing that, can you check if the problem occurs with the original dega 1.12 so I can see if it's something I've done? I admittedly don't have a great deal of access to windows and do most Windows testing using wine or a slow rdesktop session (I don't have any access to vista at all) so I don't know if I can help with those bugs.
Changing the overlay's worked, thanks.
