I made another part a little faster, this was the best I could come up with, its not the best looking but I didn't have to pause THAT long: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5673/Diman%20%26%20Highness-Toki%20-%20Going%20Ape%20Spit.gmv edit: Actually, i don't know why i shot that spike that I did (not the last one, but the one 3 before that). You can just jump over the stupid thing.

Just messing around with the beginning of this again, was able to improve this a bit: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/5672/stanski%20castlevania.gmv I might slowly work on this, as it doesn't seem like anyone else wants to. I don't know how much patience I'll have for doing this though, it is a real pain in the ass to do this, but do you guys think that looks good enough so far, or that I'm missing something?

The sheer amount of time required to make one of these runs is really discouraging me. I spent over half an hour working on one level of a game and ended up with approximately one minute of gameplay that wasn't anywhere close to optimized.
At least you have something to show for that half hour... imagine how it feels for people who do regular speedruns, to spend 10's of hours on runs and have nothing to show for it at all.

IMO, Sonic 1 and other games for SMS/GG are just pointless since they're basically inferior ports from the Genesis. Sonic 2, on the other hand, is a completely different game on the SMS and should be worth it :)
Have you, quite seriously, even PLAYED sonic 1 or 2 for sms/gg? They're completely different games.
Atma, you don't remember the long autoscrolling bridge level in sonic 1 on genesis? or the junle level that auto scrolls upwards? man, your memory must be terrible.

you could keep microstorage for the "secret" runs. I think a database would be great, as i'm sure its a pain in the ass for others as much as for me to even search through all the threads on games/cancelled submissions looking for stuff.

This is impossible to watch with any sort of sense as to what is going on. There is no point in voting, as this will be published no matter what I voted, but I vote Meh because it was more impressive to read about then to actually watch. Edit: this sounds more negative than I wanted. Again, congrats on achieving a difficult feat. But I really did enjoy reading about it and thinking of how hard it must have been then watching it.

It takes 2 seconds to make an avi out of the game. Why not re-submit?

Its definately slower because they can start flying immediately upon jumping in that room, flying up and rightwards at the same time, versus just going right then just going up with a jump into there and a wall jump.

Ugh yea that block to walljump is just a bit too high, even when jumping off of the question mark block from the other way. Why do programmers have to be stupid and put stuff like that so tantalizingly close?

From the mario tricks: To perform a walljump, you need two things: * Some horizontal speed (towards the wall) * Mario's feet must hit the wall exactly at a block boundary (every 16 pixels) I don't see why you can't continually walljump, its just a matter of is it actually slower? Edit: actually, I know you can jump up there, but I don't think you can make it high enough to a tile boundary. I'm just going on memory here, and I don't feel like checking right this instant whether you can do it or not.

One thing I always wondered but figured was wrong, was can you walljump repeatedly up to the warp in the first castle, avoiding having to get any mushrooms/leafs at all until the auto scrollers? Its probably slower or impossible, but just thought i'd mention it.

Personally I loved the camera angles, especially the side views of Mario in certain places. I don't see why I have to see where Mario is going, or how it adds to the entertainment. I didn't understand at all how foda's camera angles were better than the 16 star runs, even when looking for it. A regular player has to watch where they are going. A TAS'er doesn't and I like that this is conveyed in the camera angles.

You made this game look way easier than it is. Used to be my least favorite treasure game, but its still a great game. Oh, and gotta mention, anyone who thinks the genesis voice audio sucks should listen to the lady talk in this game. The sound effects might still be a little wimpy, but I think it fits with the game anyhow.

SDA does not support PIRACY. And it is illegal to play a game in the U.S. on emulator without dumping it yourself. That is the number 1 reason you will never see emulator runs on SDA. Faking a run by outputting to VHS would not do it, believe me there are enough audiophiles and videophiles on SDA to be able to tell the difference. It would take a ton of work to get the quality the exact same as you would get out of a real console.

Any idea why the movie would freeze? It keeps freezing at a later and later point every time i play the movie back, but it still does freeze.

Honestly I don't like the screenshot on this game at all. It says nothing about the game really and is hard to make out vectorman. Win some lose some i guess.

I thought you had found and beaten every single strange genesis game out there. I've never even heard of this game before or seen it. It plays pretty crappy from the little time I spent on it as well. Yes, again because I didn't see obvious problems and it was ok, but its the same thing as last time (DO GOOD FUCKING GENESIS GAMES).

comicalflop: You should be doing a run for your own satisfaction and to make yourself proud, not for anyone else. Otherwise, you will be dissapointed.

(off topic slightly but still related to previous question, so skip if you don't want to see a genesis fanboy spouting out about games) good genesis games without a TAS: alisia dragoon shining force 2 castlevania: bloodlines monster world 4 soldiers of fortune revenge of shinobi ranger x phantasy star 2 and 4 landstalker crusader of centy beyond oasis alien soldier warsong mega turrican rolling thunder 2 Of course, knowing you, your next game will be "buck rogers: countdown to doomsday."

At first I was unsure whether to ask you or not, then I remembered Aqfaq listing stanski as a co-author on his Dark Castle run without stanski's knowledge, so I thought that would be a precedent. Looks like this isn't the case though, so I'll be sure to ask in the future.
He asked me privately about it and if I wanted to be listed as a co-author, and I never did a TAS in the first place, so he didn't really copy my input, just used a trick. Anyhow, it didn't look like you copied that much from the previous TAS, and honestly, you could have not even told anyone you copied it and people probably wouldn't have noticed, so its good that you did that. Voting yes.

Seriously, could you pick some GOOD genesis games for once? Aren't there enough shitty genesis games here at TASvideos? Anyhow, yes :-)
