Are you going to be posting any wips on this? Glad to see mike's run was pretty good, and that I wasn't just a bad judge of TAS'ing. I'm a big fan of both vectorman games as well, although a much bigger fan of vectorman 1 (not sure i ever beat v2).

I think you are heavily contradicting yourself by saying this. If this is true, then you would not have submitted your recent Alex Kidd run and other runs.
I fixed the problems with the speed part, but If there were speed for entertainment trades I'd keep them. The fixes rikku is doing to the speed side of this run are great, but I don't agree to NOT think about entertainment at all! he's going mathematically trying to take frames. There's a run for that and it's the "aims for fastest completion" one. This is the "aims for fastest completion, but hey let's take all stars because it's fun!". In this sense, I think he shouldn't be so strict and spend 3 frames to take a fixed camera for example.
Why did you bother to even use any speed at all, if all you were aiming for was entertainment? Some of your stars were very boring, and yet you could have come up with an entertaining way to retrieve them instead. But you didn't. You always used the fastest known route. Seems kind of contradictory.

<curtmack> I see what he did <curtmack> he picked up the flaming spear from the book <curtmack> thereby skipping the pauses from picking up the spear upgrades earlier <curtmack> although he foolishly throws most of that gained time away by using the magic fire <curtmack> which lags like no tomorrow <curtmack> so who doesn't know how to TAS, hmm? First, curtmack, I don't know why you attacked me for me fully admitting I don't know how to TAS. If you thought my last comment was an attack on you (someone that knows how to TAS), I COMPLETELY did not mean that towards you. I meant that I didn't know how to TAS at all, and was really hoping someone would continue with this. I played most of that video at 100%, only using frame advance where I had no alternative, because I don't know how to use TAS tools. Most of my re-records came from trying out stuff that would help out my own speedrun. I thought this site was about helping to make the best video possible? And I told you my first sub-boss fight sucked. You wanted to see how to get the flaming spear and keep it, I showed you how. I used the thing that lags out so bad because it did more damage, I honestly didn't test at all which was faster, because I wasn't hitting him at the first possible frame half the time anyways. I was testing out how to move in the level, and like I said, someone else who is better at manipulating boss battles should do better. Oh, and don't throw away that special just because it lags like a mofo. It absolutely rapes the final boss in level 2. edit: and i hope you noticed me switch to "skip cutscene." It wastes 2 frames, but I think that you use up frames even skipping the cutscenes optimally. Not sure about that though.

(deleted previous effort) I'm making a real speedrun of this, so its a little easier for me. This is about 8 seconds faster than you did it I think. First, my boss battle SUCKS. Test this, idk what to do against him optimally. Other things I did bad: Traveling up stairs, you can get some acceleration. I didn't. I also stopped at one point in the very first room, don't do that. My AIM SN is nineallday00 if you would like to discuss anything further. I can suggest optimal playing for most situations I would bet, as I've run into them all. Also can stop in on irc, I idle there a lot. edit: i redid this a bit, and did it up to the boss battle. I missed one hit on the first sub boss though which was dumb and idk how it happened. Wastes about 10 frames and looks dumb. The first boss is a nightmare to manipulate, so i gave up. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4870/Akumajo%20Dracula%20-%20Vampire%20Killer%20%28J%29.gmv Oh, and i'm not monitoring RAM at all. You should do this at least for the enemies. You can also manipulate that enemy that I killed in 1.7 to jump into the pit, i got sick of trying (i think its based on when you enter that area), but i've had it happen in real play. Edit 2: actually, here is the full movie improvement: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4889/Akumajo%20Dracula%20-%20Vampire%20Killer%20%28J%29.gmv I'm begging someone that actually knows how to TAS to do this. It honestly is not that hard of a game to TAS besides boss battles.

This game is absolutely huge. I remember when I first played it and just cruised around forever without beating it. Can't believe you can beat it so fast! Yes vote all the way.

Yea, honestly, I didn't expect you to want to submit this, its really pointless, but I just thought i'd point it out in case someone (god knows who) decides they want to improve this and finds some uber awesome trick.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/4124/darkcast.gmv Ok, 1 small improvement suggestion if aqfaq still has it in him to redo the movie again (literally, only a few frames saved I think), and a second idea for another area. First, notice level 2, after climbing the 3rd ladder. By holding up left, the dude kind of warps to the steps, I believe this is a few frames faster than the other way of doing it. Next, the final level, is there any way to manipulate it so that you can still not have to jump and not have the beer in your way like in my vid? There has gotta be a way around it, I don't see why you need to jump honestly or how that helps. Edit: I don't blame you if you don't want to redo this, as these are really not going to amount to much time overall.

Just to clarify, gens is not the most accurate emulator out there, kega fusion is the most accurate genesis emulator. It doesn't have savestates, offer recording or rerecording, or frame advance though :-( I still don't understand why you can't just do the regular sonic gba remake for a TAS?

Yea, I knew you needed 8 crystals (not sure its worth it with spear dude, powered secondary isn't as good), but even getting the spear/whip to get a blue flame is what I was more concerned about, and it seems random. Maybe I'll just have to keep doing the first 2 scenes over and over until I get a run with it in there.

Just wanted to give my support for this awesome game, and hopefully steal some strats for a regular speedrun I'm also very very slowly working on :-). The TAS' have been very helpful here so far. I just need to figure out how to use that damn powered up subweapon (or say screw it and just not use it, as not getting hit is stupid at points for a real speedrun where you have to slow down considerably) [I do see the button inputs, so I don't need instructions on how to use it, just need practice at it]. One question I do have, is how in the first level is it decided whether you get the 3rd powerup (i.e. blue flame) from that book? It seems really random...

Points on randomness of coins in inside- They aren't random, they fall the same way each and every time. I know this for sure, as I could run through the level the exact same way each and every time with the coins falling the same way. So don't bother investigating this. I think maybe taking damage at those caps at the end of this level may be the best way to do it, unforunately I don't think you can make it through with taking just one hit though. If you could, this would be the best way to do it. It saves much more time than other areas where you are looking at taking damage. I'm pretty sure the guys walking/the way the fries fall in pizza planet is random. Not sure what they are based on, but you could conceivably manipulate it so that each person walked the correct way for whatever situation you are faced with (for example, get a faster walker when you are just about to approach cans, or a slower walker when you are on a long straight away). You should probably just take the life in "really inside the claw," depending on how close you are to the limit, but I'm pretty sure that you'll be so far ahead of it that it will be pointless. My performance in this level is not the best during the run that was posted, but hopefully you can see that turning should be avoided as much as possible without moving forwards/backwards at the same time. In "Sid's workbench," You can take damage so that you can get through other parts of the yo-yo's fast enough, that much I know from regular playing. I think you were correct in going after damage in the end of level yo-yo's, thats definately faster than taking damage at other yo-yo's. Obviously the hardest level to plan for is going to be pizza planet. I think you should spend the most time figuring out how to manipulate stuff in that level, as you can save a bundle of time if you go through the level well enough. Everything else damage wise should be straightforward, and there shouldn't be any other areas that I see for luck manipulation (besides the fireworks, you just have to obviously avoid them, but thats easy enough in regular play so I don't see it being a problem). Are you having to stop for the falling darts a long time in Sid's workbench? Hopefully you can figure out a way to get through this area better than I can, because I really wasn't sure how to get through them other than running forward then running back then forward again.

comments in red I haven't yet considered the possibility of a suicide, but I will look at it more closely over the next few months. Aim for a no deaths run. Its more interesting and, even though it might be slower, I think its better suited for thsi game The numbers beside the level name is the amount of collectable silver stars I have estimated I will need to collect. Any more than 200 over the course of the game and I am forced to do a bonus round. I will aim for less on each occassion.I can almost guarantee you will need to do a bonus stage, because there are mandatory stars in really inside the claw machine (based on how fast you do it) and skipping stars in certain levels will be much slower than just quickly losing at the bonus game Old Army Game (1) Take damage from Helicopter (4/5) Get health Star (5/5) Take damage from balloon (4/5) Red Alert (10) Ego Check(26) There are 2 health stars in this level (not including one at the end). Any plans to get either of them, as i think you can collect both without slowing down. Another tip, I think jumping is faster in most cercumstances than swinging. Damage falling from rope (3/5) Damage from clown (2/5) Damage from Plane (1/5) Nightmare Buzz (0) Buzz Clip (26) Revenge of the Toys (4) Checkpoints :) (5/5) Damage from Hamm's coins (4/5) You can take damage and save more time in other levels than hamm's coins, as it barely causes you to slow down compared to some other parts Run Rex Run (20) Buzz Battle (0) Pizza Planet (22) You might want to take more damage in this level Damage from cans at the end. Invincibility to go through boy. (3/5) Inside the claw machine (46) -- (4/5) How are you planning to get through the part near the end with the exploding caps? Would you be able to take damage and just blaze through them? Also, you should make sure you don't need to take damage here slowing down for falling objects/coins/other things Really Inside the Claw Machine (0)I'm not sure if you move too fast for this, but you gain 2 health stars for going getting a good enough time. Not sure if you go fast enough if you get a life instead The Claw (0)Make sure you allow the claw to carry buzz, so it has a shorter distance to travel Sid's Workbench (10) Damage from Fireballs (3/5) Damage from YoYos (2/5)Remember you can jump over the yo-yo's and land inbetween them, at least the swinging ones. unless you are talking about when woody is on fire, which may be a good time to take damage Revenge of the Mutant Toys (0) Damage from YoYos (1/5)I'm not sure if taking damage here is optimal compared to other areas, but i don't really know Roller Bob (0) Day-Toy-Na (0) Light my Fire (0) Rocket Man (0) - not that it matters

My run is over at sda, so actually seeing what I'm writing about might be easier for you to do. Most of the things i was describing that you could and should do are in the vid.

Quick tip: All the stars you will need are located in the free rex level (2 stars are released every time you hit a checkpoint flag). Just exit the chase buzz level with 1 health star, as you can get through the next 2 levels with 1 star easily (the dark-buzz boss and the car racing level). The pizza planet level is the place where you're really going to have problems figuring out where to take damage and how much to take. I'm thinking you should take 2 damage in this level (obviously you have to figure out the best spots to take them). If you get 49 stars at the end of the level, you get a new health star, which I don't think it wastes any time gathering them and you finish the level with 4 health star. You can then take down to 1 damage again in the next level, since there are a few places that require you to slow down tremendously (the end of the level specifically). I'd test how much damage you need to take in this level, but I think 3 is about right. Then, you can get 2 extra health stars in the first person level by going fast enough, and gain 1 health star by getting 49 stars again against the claw boss (should be doable for a tas). This will give you 4 health stars for the rest of the game. I'm not sure that there are any points that you should take damage at in "mutant toys," so you should take 3 points of damage in "sid's workbench." One small timesaver, I think that if you whip before falling a long distance, you can avoid the lag frames. You will be forced to do one bonus stage, but you might have to skip some stars in order to avoid entering the bonus stages twice (i did this in my speedrun, unfortunately, but skipping them takes less about 2 or 3 seconds).

I hope my run lives up to your expectations, I really wish i could have figure out a way to make it death free but one intended suicide at the very beginning of mutant toys isn't bad. Doing otherwise made the run too slow. At 2:18, isn't it much much more worthwhile to grab an extra health star earlier and then just jump down and take damage? I'm pretty positive that it is. Are you avoiding all the health stars for a reason? You can easily get one in the first level, if its worth it you can also luck-manipulate that baloon to give you a health star (it should be worth it if you can use it for damage in the 3rd level). My run for sda was around 22:20 from the beginning of gameplay till the end (i.e. i didn't count the beginning sequence or ending after you lose control for the minivan). You should easily be able to make this sub 20:00. What percentage are you playing at, or are you using frame advance?

Just wanted to give you some tips (before my real time speedrun is up, which will take a while), as I noticed in a thread over at sda you said you were working at this. First, in the 2nd level, go and hit rocky gibraltar's blocks first (he moves the slowest). You can hit the pig and rex's boxes as well, 102 is the best you can do and is easily doable in real time. Next, in level 3, try taking more damage and try to avoid swinging (I'm pretty sure its slower) and climbing along the ropes with the sharks (just take damage by jumping down). You should optimally end this level with one star of health after taking damage in every place you would have to slow down. In tire buzz out, you should be manipulating his movements so that he lands as quickly as possible. It might be faster to try and manipulate the fries to fall in the best manner in the pizza planet level. Also, manipulating which type of walker you get (some are slower, faster, longer steps) is best. In the first person part, try walking backwards more often. you can't pick them up backwards, but you can return to the claw machine backwards. During the claw boss, you should wait to hit him for the second hit so that he doesn't have to travel as far. Avoid the mini game. It needlessly wastes time. In the level that has hooks that you have to swing up multiple times, it is possible to skip rungs. I can do it inconsistly on console. Good luck, i don't think this run should be too difficult to make optimal using tas methods.

Microstorage. I uploaded your .gmv there (link). Interesting glitch you got there, stanski, though I'm still not sure if setting up won't take more time than it saves.
Yea, I'm guaranteeing it doesn't save any time now... by the time you even do the thing twice its going to be 14 seconds gone, and nitsuja was already in the boss chamber at 20 seconds... bleh, he really did find every shortcut in this game.

Check out this, its a gmv (no optimization at all) of a maybe time saving glitch in oil ocean 2 (though not likely, since the level is already optimized well, but you never know): http://files.filefront.com//;6469880;;/ btw, I hate filefront, but don't know anywhere else to put it. bear with me on that. You would start moving so fast and the game gets so glitchy that it might possibly save time. I've got it to go 3 times, but you start to jump above the screen and it brings you back down and gets rid of the glitchiness. Still fun to play around with!
