I'd rather an administrator have a sense of humor than be a bland justice-dispensing robot zombie. People are human, and I expect them to behave as humans do. When they fail to do this, I feel uneasy.
Also, the average level of writing ability in this community is commendable, and has restored some faith in me that English will not one day degrade into considering such delinquent conjugations as 'Imma' and 'should of' as proper and acceptable. But I digress.
You are all adorable. Some of you may even be unique and beautiful snowflakes.
Very well, then.
The Disgaea characters are all well-conceived and play off eachother wonderfully. They're a delightful cast so well-written that I never tire of working my way through the story. Laharl is also a rarity for me: a main character that I DON'T wish I could boot from the party - he's useful in battle, and watching him interact with the other characters is hilarious. Also, the Prism Rangers are responsible for the hardest laugh I've ever given for a game.
Adell's mom is admittedly the only character from Disgaea 2 that I truly liked apart from the original cast. Her dialogue is wonderful, and something I looked forward to in each leg of the story. If there was any character I truly wanted to be in my party, it would have been her. So of course, she remains an NPC...
Skies of Arcadia is one of my favorite RPGs of all-time, despite the ludicrous random encounter rate, and this is mostly owed to it harboring such an enjoyable cast of characters. Vyse, like Laharl, is among the rare few leads that don't annoy me. I genuinely like him, and his outlook is a welcome departure from the cliches of so many other RPG leads. There are too many nice things to say about this cast.
Viki: arguably the most unfathomably powerful character in the series, and undeniably the most adorably inept. As for the other characters, I'll stick to the final point I made about SoA - too many nice things to say.
I would have rather had Balthier as the main character in FFXII. Vaan and Penelo were boring as sin, Ashe was just a more boring Yuna with a prettier face, but Balthier and Fran were both splendid from head to toe, inside and out. The fact that they were at least kept in the party from the first hour or so of the game until its completion is of some solace, however.
Quistis is admirable, Selphie is a laugh, and Edea is more than you expect her to be. This trio (and that Squall didn't irritate me as much as, say, Cloud) make up a big part of why VIII is my favorite of the Sony-era Final Fantasies.
Is there anyone who didn't like Red XIII? Honest question. Also, Yuffie somehow managed to be an annoyance in an endearing way. I still ARGH when she screws up the order of my materia, but I can't help but keep her in my party from her inception onward.
... This is starting to get tl;dw, so I'll make this the cut off. But I will say that Jon Talbain/Gallon is the single most awesome werewolf ever designed. We can stop making werewolves now, they will never be more awesome.
In terms of overall character personality and design, in no particular order, other than what they come to me in:
Etna, Flonne, Laharl, Mid-Boss, Prinnies, and the Prism Rangers - Disgaea
Adell's mom - Disgaea 2
Vyse, Aika, Fina, and Gilder - Skies of Arcadia
Viki, Yuber, Nanami, and too many others - Suikoden series
Fran and Balthier - Final Fantasy XII
Quistis, Selphie, and Edea - Final Fantasy VIII
Red XIII and Yuffie - Final Fantasy VII
Terra, Edgar, and Celes - Final Fantasy VI
Rydia - Final Fantasy IV
Orlandu - Final Fantasy Tactics
Magus - Chrono Trigger
Katt and Nina - Breath of Fire series
Dizzy and Baiken - Guilty Gear series
Jon Talbain/Gallon, BB Hood/Bulleta, and Morrigan - Darkstalkers/Vampire series
Ken, Dan, Sakura, and Ibuki - Street Fighter series
Aaand I'm falling asleep trying to think of more.
I never wrote lyrics to instrumental songs, but I have been known to change existing lyrics.
When it comes to instrumental music, my instinct is to come up with new arrangements, or to mix songs together. Unfortunately, I lost a couple hundred gigabytes worth of my musical compositions, so I have none of those to share. Not that my website is even up at the moment, as evidenced by my lack of avatar for the past month... One of my favorites was a remix of Chrono Trigger's Corridors of Time (a song every game remix artist has to do at least once) as inspired by Kamisama no Utagoe, of capsule fame. Not that I really expect many others to know of capsule, but hey. I rather miss that song...
Turned out pretty much like I expected to, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'd like to watch this in 6.1 surround at some point, just for giggles. I'm all for it as a demo, just for the sheer madness. I'm more partial to the quad run in the end, but I certainly wouldn't complain over this movie existing.
Now, how about completing Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat II simultaneously? :v
Huh. Amusingly, Google does not have pictures of anyone with my name. Not even me!
I once worked with a girl that had my last name, so when I was hired, the other employees assumed we were related. That is, until they actually saw me in person, and then asked if one of us was adopted. Other than actual family members, I've never met anyone else with my last name. I'm always the only person in school with my last name, and that's between four elementary schools, junior high and high school, and two universities.
I'm forced to use a wired connection due to heavy wireless interference in my apartment complex. I've noticed that my friends on wireless connections lag like hell (sometimes unplayably so) while those who invested on the LAN adaptor are pretty solid to match with. Not that this surprises me, because I have never and likely will never be impressed with wifi.
Hello, old post!
Ten or so years ago, I picked the name 'Jupiter' to use as a screen name. I saw it as androgynous, because one could take it as reference to the Roman god just as easily as they could the green-eyed brunette in Sailormoon. I like plausible deniability.
Over time, my name became shortened to Jupi thanks to general laziness of chat room users, (and you will find me credited as such in nullDC, incidentally) but it is admittedly still not the most unique name you'll ever find. I eventually settled on 'superjupi' as my universal screen name, though I have no idea where the 'super' prefix came from. Maybe I was drunk that night, or at least overtired.
I've used many other screen names in many other circles, but Jupiter and its derivatives definitely seem to have the most permanence.
Edit: how did that E get to where the Y should be? *smacks hand*
Political correctness is just another form of censorship, really. I always saw it as just coming up with elaborate titles for minorities, in an effort to make them feel special. Cartoon Network once spoofed this by referring to The Hillbilly Bears as 'Mountain-Dwelling Ursines of Rural Appalachia'.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's being ruined, either the game or the community, but there sure is a lot of pointless bickering. And yes, I'll admit to having contributed my share.
*sigh* I don't think banning Saturn, even temporarily, would be beneficial. Not that I should have any say in the matter. Though it would be rather amusing if getting booted out would cause him to actually finish one of the runs and hog the glory for himself out of spite.
It's also not a problem limited to this game. Double Dash and Mario Kart DS both suffer from this to a comparable degree. I only briefly touched Super Circuit, so I can't say whether or not it bears the same affliction, but recent Mario Karts have made me invent new words, I can tell you that much.
There are no glitches in Mario Kart Wii, it just develops random features.
What gets me is that you can dodge the POW by jumping, but if you're mid air off a jump when it hits, you still get taken out.
Other bones of contention: fake item blocks can no longer be used as a shield when held, and if I'm gonna be item spammed, at least let me keep my frigging items! I'm looking at YOU, blue shell and POW block!
Although, it's nice that the POW block is glitched; if you tap 'up' on the d-pad when the POW block hits, you don't lose speed. You'll still lose your items *shakes fist* but at least you won't come to a screeching halt over a pit or something.
Correction: it would be special if you actually shared it while you still had something unique to share. It's not getting any more special by just sitting there untouched and unwatched for all eternity while the other competent players whittle away at your achievements.
