I have a hardware firewall, and do not bother with anti-virus at all on my laptop. My desktop still uses AVG, but mainly because it's already there and keeps up with updates, and because my desktop is DMZ. Unfortunately, the only software firewall that impressed me (Sygate) was discontinued. It was the only software firewall I ever used that would halt the worm running around on Bellsouth a few years ago. Damnedest thing; on a fresh installation of XP, if I plugged the network cable in before installing Sygate, within ten minutes my CPU usage would max out and never go down. Ever. Nothing in the task manager using resources, just a rapidly overheating processor running under full load for no apparent reason. Only way to stop it would be to format, reinstall the OS, and install Sygate before getting on the network. Never did find out what it was, other than it only occurred on Bellsouth, and if I wasn't firewalled. Didn't even have to open a browser window, just being connected spelled certain doom. Oh well, no such troubles now.

Also, it bugs me that half the posts in this thread have "in my opinion" or, even worse, "IMO" in them. You're the one typing it, it's painfully obvious it's your opinion. "IMO" in particular baffles me, it's intended to save time by being an acronym when it could simply be left out entirely.
I must admit that I'm a bit envious of you. Life must be working out pretty well for you right now if something this insignificant is a high-ranking source of personal distress.

Indeed. It's also a good way to spare yourself listening to the, "well, that's just your opinion!" retort.

At the risk of being completely off-topic, I still read 'Arkanoid' as 'Araknoid'. I don't think I'll ever break myself of this habit.

Then you're reading into it too deeply. Nobody has said anything ill of speed runs in and of themselves, and I'm fairly certain most of us do actually watch SDA runs for personal enjoyment and interest. The bone of contention raised in the topic has been with stylistic choices of isolated cases within the SDA video archive. In no way is it an attack on SDA or anything/anyone associated with it.

I like this thread, it's crazy. Though the "TAS-hate thread" at Mk2k is still my favorite. Definitely worth a read :)
That just makes my head hurt. I wasn't aware we were such a troubling corner of society, degrading the quality of life of gamers the world over. I wonder if this is how Galoob felt.

Game Gear is TAS-able by proxy of Master System, is it not? </derail>

My only inclination towards single segment runs is that I only have to download one file in order to watch the movie. If you accomplish your goal and it looks interesting, why should I care how many times you had to reset?

I haven't played a lot of Anniversary Edition, but I would assume that Championship Edition Bison is the most absurdly overpowered character there, with CE Guile being another powerhouse.
You are most certainly correct. I've never been much for charge characters, though, so you'll usually find me sticking to ST Ken and Turbo Ryu. I'm also known to use Cammy once in a while, knowing full well that she's bottom tier; I don't mind taking punishment as long as I have a character that suits my play style. As a side note, I like your naming conventions for the bosses. That certainly helps alleviate confusion for international players!

6. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo A game I still play occasionally, and attempt to improve at. The AI here is no joke, however, unlike most Street Fighter titles.
The anniversary edition AI is even more formidable, to a downright laughable degree. My very first match against the computer was against Zangief, who jumped straight into round one with a Banish Fist tick into Spinning Pile Driver. I actually dropped the controller to laugh at the absurdity, as I was sure that was an impossible attack string up until then. If not for Sagat being horribly neutered, I don't think I would have had a chance at ever beating it. Even at that, I used the stupidly overpowered Turbo characters as a crutch to do so.

Much love to DarkKobold. Amusingly, my laptop's display is not big enough to play it properly. I'm sure my desktop has ample screen realestate, but that seems like too much effort to put into getting a headache.

By making them as obnoxious to look at as possible. Rapid-fire enabling/disabling of nightvision goggles or somesuch, I forget what exactly. Either way, it made the screen go chaotic for no good reason.

I suppose I could also mention Sonic CD, given that I played through it once per week from 1993 to 1998, give or take. If Sega CD rerecording ever gets into shape, I'll be all over it.

Oooh. What a fun ancient topic to dig up. 1. Night Warriors - I'd been playing Street Fighter in the arcades for a while and could hold my own, and I loved Darkstalkers immediately when it first popped up in a local pizza shop, but its sequel (despite having what I considered a drastic decrease in aesthetics) was definitely the first game to totally consume me. To this day, I have never been defeated as Jon Talbain. I stopped using him against humans after a while because of the horrible disadvantage it gave my opponents. 2. SoulCalibur and its sequels - I was never really that great at SoulEdge/SoulBlade, but from SoulCalibur onward, Taki is the closest thing I have to Jon Talbain when it comes to characters I've learned backwards and forwards. Unlike JT, however, I cannot claim an undefeated record. And for the game I play reasonably well but wouldn't last one match in tournament play: Street Fighter III series - I can slaughter the AI, but mostly because I don't rely on parrying. I despise the parrying system, and consider it the worst thing to happen to the series. That said, I still managed an MSF medal with Yang in 3rd Strike. Honorable mention: SVC Chaos - While employed at Gamestop, my Street Fighter-obsessed assistant manager jumped on the SVC demo while we were closing. After expressing my interest in joining in, his response was, "silly little girl, you can't hang!" Terry destroyed him in record time. I'd put Tekken on the list, but Tekken 5 has made me feel like a failure. First time Yoshimitsu has lost to AI opponents in years. I've forgotten what it's like to have an ego. :o

That was my assumption, but I wanted to treat the serious details seriously just in case some of it was actually an honest change of format.

Jump to letter would be preferable to page-based (is Super Mario Bros on page 5? 6? maybe 8? Won't know until I stumble upon it haphazardly!) and I would REALLY like the option to say, "load times be damned, show me all NES games at once!" I also miss the screenshots, but I won't kick and scream about their absence like I'm inclined to do about the first two points I mentioned.

Are we seriously (no pun) debating the merits of a joke submission? I'm hoping this is all just another layer of April Fool's nonsense. suddenly, Donkey Kong!

A nice improvement to possibly my favorite game in my greatest fandom. A (maybe slightly biased) yes vote from me.

The original was a classic, and I'm happy to see it make a proper return. A rather unexpected return, which makes it all the more enjoyable.

They're working on it actively. It won't be accumulating dust for years while a group of others are toiling away to surpass what has already been done. They're not explicitly hiding anything, because they've discussed to a certain degree of detail what routes they're taking, what new methods have been discovered, and so on and so forth. You'll see it when it's finished, and it will be finished. Just sit tight.

I'm assuming they're referring to the glitch that lets you break out of the drained Samus state after Mother Brain's Hyperbeam and thereby allows you to pummel her throughout the otherwise scripted sequence.

Actually, we once had a university professor present an argument for the universe contracting rather than expanding. Would that I could remember the finer points of the presentation, but I just accept it as yet another uncertainty in cosmic physics.

Depending on the size of your memstick and discernment of your ear, that's not too bad. I've used my PSP for the same task on a few occasions when I just needed something to listen to in order to retain sanity. I've been more interested in keeping it filled to the brim with games as of late, though.
