Load time is the only factor that cannot be manipulated. Enemy and boss behavior is less linear on average than the Genesis Sonics, but not any less difficult to bend to your will with trial and error.
Edit: Hmm... I seem to have gotten your comment backwards in my mind. Anyway, yes, there is a certain degree of randomness to enemy behavior. Some enemies (the UFOs in the special stage, for example) are completely scripted and set on rails, but others react to timing and placement.
Well, then, you should have fixed it before continuing. This was in 1-1, errors this early on have no reason to exist. I'm not usually this harsh, but nobody else was saying it.
As much as I must commend you for finishing this damned thing, I also know that this could be finished much quicker. It's worth watching from the standpoint of, "wow, sadists sure are creative" but I'd have to see the unnecessary pauses dealt with before I'd cast a yes vote.
I definitely can't vote no, however, because DAMN. I can rattle through SMB glitches just fine, but level designs like that make me run away screaming. I'll watch someone blow through these hacks and happily oblige a pat on the back.
Voting Meh, will upgrade to Yes if the shortcomings are ironed out.
I follow rules as though there's no room for debate, and enforce them as though there are always exceptions. And yet, I always seem to be placed in positions of administration. I can't decide if I'm just the token good cop, or if my superiors/peers routinely make poor decisions.
The Japanese version of Super Castlevania IV (Akumajo Dracula) does. Can't remember if Dracula XX did or not. It's been a while since I played the Japanese version, but I'm reasonably sure Final Fantasy VI did in the form of either a boss or Esper (if not both), as well.
Look at the message more as, "Error message: invalid syntax". Though I dig the meta humor on a syntax error message with poor syntax. Almost as good as the Freud head lollipops.
I actually had this game for Genesis and couldn't stand the thing. I never got used to the controls, and wound up pawning it off back to EB towards the purchase of Super Street Fighter II for SNES (already had the Genesis version, but I felt like being a whore).
You have managed to make a game I hate look fun and interesting. I think the choice is clear: Yes, all the way.
Fun game to play, not so much to watch. If you're into the game, it's a nice reference video, but it's still in the same vein as Ice Climbers in games that just didn't need a speed run.
That said, like Ice Climbers, I can still watch it and recognize it as being played well. It may not be a thrilling movie to watch, but anyone who knows the game won't expect it to be, either.
Meh for entertainment factor, or Yes for demonstration? I'll give it a Yes.
I obviously wasn't awake enough, as I attempted to wash my laundry with fabric softener, rather than detergent.
Now that I have my wits about me, I can confidently vote yes on this submission. As though you'd expect otherwise.
Remind me to not browse forums when I've been awake for less than two minutes. I just horribly confused myself thinking this was a duplicate of Deign's run, and that Bisqwit deleted the wrong submission.
I'm gonna go drink a pot of coffee, start some laundry, then come back and watch this after my brain is awake.
I don't know... if you kept spinning in circles at the right speed, two characters may be able to nab each ring in the final special stage. I'd hate to try those stages in frame advance, though. The response time isn't exactly phenomenal.
Finally, someone remembers the L and R buttons!
Overall, I liked the last run better. Sorry. But hey, the Lemming-style death in CI3 was awesome.
I'm going to withhold my vote. I WAS entertained by this run, but I prefer your last submission to this one. Call it a yes vote in spirit.
Tails jumps exactly the same height as Sonic. The only 1P difference between Sonic and Tails is that Sonic can duck to nullify Robotnik's ooze in Chemical Plant and Tails can't.
Well, I should probably test that before I make such bold claims, but I do know they jump to exactly the same height.
In any case, what does this package contain that site snapshot does not? (Well, after I update it anyway)
Nothing. Less, in fact. I think it's mainly a matter of method of sorting, and trimming the included movie list to only the current accepted non-obsolete files. Also, .tar takes a bit more work to support within Windows. I wouldn't expect anyone not already familiar with Linux to bother with it.
Hahaha, pulling off the flag trick on 4-1 (and to a lesser extent, the levels that followed) really grabbed my attention. I needed to say that first and foremost. I shouldn't be surprised at succeeding with a walljump, but as soon as I remembered the gap, I thought, "okay, let's see if he can manage it here... HA!"
Just like the other two, old record smashed, surefire win, kudos to all, etc etc.
I love both soundtracks (Nilsen's Ecco soundtrack is one of my all-time favorites, as well) - I just thought the Japanese soundtrack had more of a suitable Sonic sound to it. Not to mention it was nice to have the Past tracks match the Present and Future tracks.
I'll admit that I prefer Nilsen's Palmtree Panic, though.
