How's it going with the runs, Vespa and Chef Stef?

L4yer: the movie gets better as the levels get harder, especially in a level called "Stampede" which consists of Tarzan running away from a bunch of stampeding elephants. I took no damage for that level which is supposedly impossible with mere human reflexes (stupid humans!).

That's looking pretty good so far. Nice work.
Thanks Mukki! Also commented on your Gex 64 run, nice job! I've been away from Mupen so I haven't had a chance to redo "Coming of Age", the first adult Tarzan level.

Thanks, that worked nicely. Go to youtube to see the first 3 remotes of the TAS. The picture quality is poor and there is no sound, but everyone will just have to live with that. You can see what is going on at least.
YouTube didn't work.

YouTube ftw. I've finished Tarzan's child section (though the last two levels are not included in the YouTube video) including a no-damage run of Stampede, which is supposed to be impossible with normal human reflexes, especially on hard mode. I'm currently runnning through Tarzan's adult portion to see how to optimize it. I'll need to a hell of a lot of optimizing to line up the superbounce Rhinos in "Coming of Age". Anyone who's played the game before (yes, both of you!) knows what I'm talking about.

This is the redone WIP. I tried to make an AVI and since i've never done one before i managed to screw it up somehow and so it won't play on my media player.....anyways here's the new .m64 file. This has the first two remotes from out of toon; my route for the first one is different, and faster, and my route for the second remains the same. It's just more polished.
YouTube encode plz?

Quick question: is it possible to allow left-right/up-down on the Mupen Controller? If so how? If not, can it be included in the next update?

Is this still optimal? Is this a ROM problem or is it because you're screwing around with the hardware?
This is a ROM problem. You see, the reason I chose hard mode in the first place was actually to SAVE time. In Hard mode, you don't have to go through the in-level tutorial of game controls that you do in Medium or Easy mode, where it actually stops IN THE MIDDLE OF A LEVEL to explain how to play the frickin' game. The game usually crashes around the time the "helpful" gorilla would pop up and explain some new set of controls to you. But when the game checks to see if you're in medium or easy mode to activate the gorilla cutscene, the game goes beserk, especially if you press A just before the gorilla is supposed to pop up. For example, holding A while log surfing or swimming for the first time causes the game to crash. The only thing that screwing around with the hardware affects is the autosave function, eliminating it and saving frames. Hope that answers your questions Mukki. Now will someone actually WATCH my run plz? :(

Alright, here's a WMV file of my WIP (high and low quality) completing Welcome to the Jungle and Going Ape. I apologize about the crappy encoding sry :( A quick update and help request: I'm trying to do Elephant Hair Dare but I'm running into another crash trigger which is hard to get around. It happens right after I jump into the pool. Any help with avoiding the crash would be appreciated.

Done "Going Ape." An M64 and a WMV file will be coming along shortly.

To answer your questions: 1. I think so. The save system on this ROM was screwed up anyway, so yeah, I think so. 2. It does. Saving takes a few frames extra plus a confirmation menu. 3. I think it has to do with hitting a trigger of some kind (perhaps for the tutorial in beginner mode). You still hit the trigger by jumping over it on level ground, so doing the leap of faith is the only way. I also suggest that you, and everyone, watch the run before jumping to any conclusions. I'm currently farther in the game and it's getting interesting...

Here's a fool-around WIP. Far from perfect, but still reasonable enough. Here are a few comments. - I play on hard mode to avoid the tutorial "tips" from that stupid ape. - I play with a corrupt controller pak (a Mempak with raw data that the game thinks is a malfunctioning Rumble Pak) because it saves frames by eliminating the autosave function. Using the "continue without saving" option with a corrupt pak is faster than having the game save. To activate, set your controller to a Mempak with raw data off and load this savestate. (it's in the middle of the corruption warning) - At around frame 5000, I jump up because if I take the low road the game crashes. - At 5381 it is possible to jump to the upper log without climbing. I've only ever done it once, and certainly not in this testrun. - This is a minimalist run, i.e. getting to the umbrella as fast as possible. There's WAY too much stuff in this game to get a 100% run (because the game treats 100% as not only all the map pieces, all the TARZAN letters but also ALL THE FRICKIN COINS!!!) - Damage is usually not helpful in this game (since it throws you backward most of the time) but I do optimize damage by "bouncing" off a monkey onto a high platform. - It technically shouldn't be possible to move Tarzan before the level intro screen is finished. But I do it anyway ;) Enjoy and, as always, criticize like there's no tomorrow! PS - This is also my official cancellation notice for Zelda Oracle of Ages. Staf Chef seems to know what he's doing. Good luck!

What version of Mupen64 are you guys using? I have 0.5.1 which doesn't take .m64 files. Perhaps you can provide a link to the version you are using?

Well, I DO like the idea of a "temple adventure" where all dungeons must be completed and sequence breaking is allowed. In that case, I think the best route would be - Deku Tree - Spirit Temple (full completion as a child) - Jabu Jabu's Belly - Dodongo's Cavern BECOME AN ADULT - The Sage temples in no particular order - Shadow Temple via "leap of faith" Will edit this later.

Someone got 100% on Ocarina of Time (100 Gold Skultullas, all items including masks). The YouTube link is here. I definitely think this route can be optimized in TAS form, including: - Completing the shooting game and getting the fox mask in your first trip to Hyrule Market. I've got assembly to go to now, but more will come to me eventually. Anyone up for it besides GuanoBowl? I know I'm not *runs*.

</sarcasm> Anyway, first WIP finally! Ends after Maku Road, with better route optimization etc. I'm currently 1,063 frames up on Tompa's testrun (though most of that time was saved by entering "A" as my name). Enjoy! And also, to Vespa: maybe our two slow runs will cancel out into one fast run O_O *shot*

Heh. Turns out I didn't optimize the picture of Nayru singing. Redone it and am just at Maku Road...again :(.

Oh, too bad:(. I hope that Vespa won't "cancel" the run as well, because I'm really looking forward to both these!
I guess I used the wrong wording. It should have been "this run is moving really, REALLY slowly, therefore you should consider it postponed even when it's not." Sorry about the confusion.

I'm postponing (NOT CANCELLING) this run due to an insanely difficult schedule. With the schedule I have in a good week I register 1000 frames or less.

Meh, don't bother. Pics are all I need (and maybe the occasional snapshot movie). I also discovered a cool trick to kill both yourself and an enemy at the same time with only a sword! O_O It doesn't have much value but I hope to upload it to YouTube soon.

Oh, and also, I have a few little points on how certain Links could pwn the others: OOT/MM Link - If he makes a mistake, he can go back in time and do it again! He can also walk backwards really really fast. Or he could pwn all the other Links at staring contests! O_O WW/PH Link - Hurrican Spin Attack or sniping everyone with Bombs on the King of Red Lions. 'Nuff said. LTTP Link - He could make all of his opponents dizzy watching him "wobble" and then slash them all to death. MC Link - He can shrink, dodge all the other Links and slash at everybody's ankles. Or just wait out the rest of the battle and fight the last Link left. SSMB Link doesn't count 'cause he's essentially Adult Link with all items. And concerning commentary for the next OOT speedrun: I want commentary from GuanoBowl so he can actually explain what the hell he's doing. JXQ's was hilarious but uninformative. Sorry mate :(
