I mean, come on. The different route taken is OBVIOUS.
So I'm told. But comparing the youtube video to my memory of the previous run, I simply don't see it. And I don't like the game enough to watch the old one to refresh my memory. This movie's Bowser in the Fire Sea route is not memorable to me either. It doesn't help that the route in the first half or more of the level is 100% identical to the old version (I'm told). And so, not seeing any glaring amazing obvious differences between this one, I voted "meh" to the idea of it obsoleting the currently published movie.

Read the improvement submission text, then watch the video again. Then afterwards, watch SL's video. If you still are having problems seeing the improvements, I honestly do feel bad. Countless others have seen and appreciated the improvements, clearly it's there and viewable to others, give it a chance.
I gave it a chance. The movie, just like the last one, was not memorable. None of the improvements to the zero star route have been memorable. Only the very first zero star had a memorable route change to the movie it immediately obsoleted. It now occurs to me, though, that I was responding to the wrong question ("Do you think this should be published?"). If I had voted based on the question the poll actually asks ("Did you enjoy watching this movie?"), the way I always say that everyone should, my vote properly should have been "No." And if this is how you respond to a viewer stating an honest, neutral opinion, I'd hate to see how you react to actual criticism.

Seriously I want to talk about this Harry Potter nonsense. Who in their right mind thinks the last book isn't super mega awesome? I've never heard this before.
I was greatly disappointed in the series as a whole. Though, the last book holds a special place in my heart, simply because it ended the series. Which means no more will be written, and all the people that blathered continually about the series are gradually stopping, and finding other things to talk about. Which basically makes me a happier person. So yeah, I'd have to agree that the last book is super mega awesome.

My god... No wonder USA has such a high obesity rate, that costs at least 4-5 times as much in Sweden.
What's worse is that milk and orange juice are expensive (think a dollar per pint of OJ and per quart of milk) in comparison to soda, and so is bottled water, which is a problem because too many of us are unfoundedly afraid to drink our own tap water.
Far too many of those tap water fears are actually well founded. But yes, that is a definite contributor to the problem.

The only reason I can think of for this is that your Finnish accent might make them giddy.

I am looking for assistance in bringing the Linux version of gens up to speed with the windows build. However, I have been unable to set up a working Linux platform to dev on, and I have absolutely no experience with KDE or gnome GUI fuctions. Some recent developments in Gens make it somewhat imperative that the next version have a simultaneous Linux & windows release.

At that point, you are supposed to start bargaining to get the price down. However, I was somewhat unprepared for this process so I didn't get the price much down (only $20 from their initial offer) and didn't get the gear in my brain running that would have made me calculate exactly what kind of "tax" they were applying. Nevertheless, the price is not considerably less than or greater than that which it would have been in Finland, so I'm not complete unhappy. Just mostly.
This sounds like it might have been a pawn shop -- a place where people sell their used goods for money, and other people buy things at an attempt to get cheap prices. I'd guess he realized Bisqwit was a foreigner who wouldn't know what a reasonable price was in the US, and decided to raise the price. I've heard that all shops in Mexico do the same. Though, if it was selling goods that appeared to be new, then it sounds like something pretty suspicious was going on...

Basically, rating the games themselves might not be that bad a thing, but it can lead to unwanted results, such as unpopular games driven way further away from players
Perhaps this could be avoided if the "bad idea for a TAS" color was reserved for games that have had TASes rejected due to poor game choice?

This is actually wrong, though. It should be "I and Ben went to the store" because the same rule of "what would the sentence be if the other person was removed?" applies.

That doesn't prevent it from automatically resetting your computer after X minutes, so it is not really a solution.

Also, there's precedent for discounting bot-made rerecords. None of the bisqbotted megaman TASes have rerecord counts in the millions.

WTF at this being accepted with one vote, but, say, the Pokemon Yellow glitched one, not being accepted until 56. If it meant anything, I'd vote no just because of that.
The poll is meant to be an aid for when the judges are unfamiliar with the game, and is almost wholly irrelevant in cases where there's already a published movie, because any judge can watch the published movie in order to acquaint themselves with the game.

It's also rare to see a rejection to an improvement of a published movie. Accepting improvements is nearly automatic (and it's been suggested that it should be an automatic process anyway).
Except for Ocarina of Time, or Air.

It means the game didn't check the input that frame. It usually happens during loading screens or when the game lags.

I think we're all forgetting something: the current OoT Movie has something going for it that no replacement could ever hope for, no matter how optimized it gets: JXQ's commentary.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest you check with people at The Sonic Center. They explained to Nitsuja and me many of the glitches that we used in our runs, and probably understand better how to reproduce them in real time than I do.

The main reason I believe this hasn't come up is that the end result wouldn't differ significantly from the Knuckles version, and therefore probably won't provide any additional entertainment to anyone, even the TAS author.

The 16 star runs were a necessary step in the natural progression of SM64 runs, because it was the least stars needed. Now we don't need any. So I don't understand why people are so in love with such a contrived and arbitrary number.
It has nothing to do with the number. It has to do with the length of the movie and the ratio of speed/freshness to slowness/repitition. It happens that 16-star runs have had much, much better ratios than the 120 star or 1/0 star runs. Whether 16 is the perfect number, or something else would be even better remains to be seen, but the fact is that the 120 star run is way too long and repetitive, and the bowser fights make up way too large a proportion of the 0 star. This is also why, even though 70 only makes sense with BLJs barred, people may want the author to BLJ through the stages and castle, as it adjusts increases the speed aspect of the entertainment-determining ratio.

Probably Not
Meaning it's very hard to do? Or you don't know what causes it and haven't tested the other ladders for the same effect?
I'd guess the latter.

This is very typical for SF games. You need to create a zero byte Shining Force 2 (U) [!].srm, and set it to read-only.
Slight correction and clarification here: it should be Shining Force 2 (E) [!].srm, because you're using Shining Force 2 (E) [!].bin Also, the easiest way to do this is to delete the file which already exists, open the rom in gens, and immediately close it. Then just set the resulting Shining Force 2 (E) [!].srm file read only in the right-click->properties menu. The rest of DarkKobold's solution here is entirely accurate.

Hello, If I'm looking to record a video of me playing through a game on Gens, could someone give me some sort of step-by-step walkthrough of how to accomplish that? I have Gens 9.5, and every time I record something, it desyncs, so I didn't know if there were some things I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated, even a link to a full discussion on recording via Gens. Thanks
I'd like to help, but first I have two questions:
  1. What game are you playing?
  2. When you say you're recording a video, do you mean you're making a .gmv file, or a .avi file?
If you can answer those two, it will give me insight into the nature of your problem.
