My problem is not with the behavior of the tag. It is with the behavior of Bisqwit, who recently seems to believe that it is better to exacerbate problems and then ban the people who cause them, than it is to attempt to defuse them peacefully.

Certainly. But would he have posted it then? No, he posted it because there was that text-producing effect.
But only because you explicitly changed it in order to punish him. Edit: That also doesn't change the fact that your "discouragement" simply makes abuse more annoying, creating a problem where there was none. And rather than admit he has made a mistake he has used this as an excuse to ban a long-time user of the forums.

Bisqwit the behavior was not malignant, it was for purposes of humor, and the addition of the "mumble mumble mumble" doesn't really discourage it, it only adds annoyance to readers.

Not sure if these have been linked here, but they are definitely stupid, and I find them amusing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyOray7MmUI (Streets of Rage 2) and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8Mx14TWV5I (Ocarina of Time) are my favorite versions.

I don't think there's any problem with using pause screen abuse as death prevention, so long as you keep in mind that it is slower than, y'know, having health. That is to say, so long as it is only used where it is faster (realtime) than getting an extra pickup or refill, I don't think it would significantly decrease entertainment of a run.

Nope, it's not possible to get past that tree. However, if you're really interested in knowing what's behind it, I guess you can change some RAM-addresses to teleport you there, though chances are pretty high that the game will crash if you do so.
Perhaps a better idea would be to use one of the zelda 3 level editors to remove the tree entirely.

You know, this is all nice and interesting, but smv files contain the SRAM data they start from. Or if they don't start from reset, they contain the savestate data they start from. No need to mess around distributing SRM or ST? files, or giving instructions on how to create ones.

I was thinking like this: ― A "hacks" category should be for "hacks" and nothing else ("concept demo" does not accomplish that) ― There should be a way to include TASes for every game, even the boring ones ―― but without reducing the signal to noise ratio in the site's main content ― In other words, I want to include Princess-only but like said, "concept demos" is something that should go away. And now I'm thinking also these: ― There should be a way to include fancy demonstrations without "speedrun" / quick being an absolute goal.. and without having to put them all in the vague "concept demo" group ― There must be no "dumpster".
I agree that this is a good idea, but it doesn't address the issue of double-standards for improvements to old runs. There are surely movies up today that wouldn't be accepted, under either tier of the new system, if they had been first submitted today. Should improvements of these movies still be accepted, if the improvement movie wouldn't pass submission standards if judged as a movie for a new category?

Here's my third Automatic Mario level i've made so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d14NCnjNYrs I've inserted 4 custom blocks in there. 1) Green --> Makes mario Bounce, but not like the note block, you don't have to hold down any buttons to make mario get his max height from the note block, and it doesn't bounce down then up. 2) Yellow --> Makes mario zip Right very fast. 3) Purple --> Makes mario zip Left very fast. 4) Red --> Makes mario fall Medium Speed. Yes, it's not very long, I was just messing around with the blocks.
It would be nice if next time, instead of making a new one, you expanded one of the ones you've already made, like this, or the second one. It's nice to see them fast, but it would be even better if it weren't just a straight line.

Huh. As a kid, I remember renting this game from blockbuster, and being severely disappointed. Not at all like this TAS. Still, towards the end it starts getting highly repetetive, with so many levels, so few bosses, and so many of the levels lasting all of 5 seconds. I like the run, and I'm giving it a yes, but if there's any shorter overworld route, I think I'd prefer a run using that to this.

Awesome, this is truly my favorite part of this humble site.
To be honest I'm surprised my opinion is so much in the minority. the game is fairly slow-paced, and it reminds me of megaman X3, with the armors, but with extreme gothic architecture just to darken the mood. But maybe I'm just jaded.

The recent improvement to the Super Mario 2 (U) Princess only has kicked up a bit of debate in the IRC channel -- What purpose does a princess only run serve? Why is it that this improvement can be published, when better runs that don't obsolete old movies will be rejected? Why should we allow the double-standard for improvements? If the substandard runs are being kept because they show site history, they should be locked and no improvements accepted. If they're not, they should simply be removed, as they are not serving any useful purpose. As it is they're just opening up the window for TASes that don't meet site standards to be published, and all the controversy that comes with it.

Yes, if you click the link to the submission, at the top of this thread, you should see a link called "edit" down at the bottom.

Unfortunately, collecting the Life Vessel restores you to full health. :/ Even exiting the level naturally by heading to the right takes longer.
Ah, so the item you get there restores your health. You might want to note that in your submission text. So is there a reason why, when you have to jump down that tall tower in one level, you land smack dab in the middle of the floor, rather than as close to the exit door as possible?

Huh. I wasn't aware that capcom made any boring, crappy games during the days of the SNES. Thank you for correcting my ignorance. Seriously, as I watched all I could think about was that this must be what it be like if megaman and castlevania had an incest baby wherein megaman was both castlevania's sister, and castlevania's daughter, to begin with. There also seemed to be quite a few obvious improvements laying around. Like when you die to end a level early, and up to that point where you suicide, you have a full health meter. So, to summarize, I didn't like it.

I agree with Bisqwit in this matter, 1) Who cares if someone makes text really small or invisible? There are several extremely simple ways to remove formatting from a piece of text. 2) It serves a useful purpose to keep around. Even the small ones. Perhaps you don't use them, but some people do. 3) If you don't like reading small text, or think it's annoying, it's tiny, you can easily ignore it. If you're so OCD that you have to read every single bit of text posted on these forums you need another hobby.
Thirding this opinion.

I think this is the same series that is called 3x3 eyes in the US. Anyway, I couldn't get the game to work in FCEU 0.98.16, but it worked fine when I tried 0.98.15. This is a pretty fun game to watch, and the TAS you've made looks very well optimized. I vote yes. Nice work xipo, once again.

That is not the only way to be abrasive or detrimental to a forum environment. For instance, just last night you directly insulted xebra in some pretty strong terms. Some might argue that

is even worse, than insulting a person with swearwords. After all, insulting a person with swearwords can only harm that person's ego. Whereas calling for action to be taken against that person can result in more dire effects. And I don't believe this is the first time you've directed such strong statements against someone.

If xebra wasn't harming you, then what was the cause for banning him? I am now totally confused.
Bisqwit wrote:
Don't think Jesus said never to do anything. When he noticed that people had turned a temple into a marketplace, Jesus didn't just passively watch from side but rushed there, threw the tables down, opened cages in which animals were kept, made a whip out of some ropes and expelled the sellers, and shouted how people have made his Father's room into a robbers' lair!
I am familiar with that incident. Jesus was upset because the rabbis, who should have been offering spiritual guidance to the masses, were instead using their status to profit off of the masses. The standard english translation is "den of thieves". By comparison, Jesus never took action against the Romans, who blatantly enslaved and murdered his people. In fact, he did not even bar Roman soldiers from seeking his guidance. The same Roman soldiers who were directly responsible for his people being oppressed solely due to their faith, could ask advice of him, and be treated with respect. They were not bannished from his presence for being disrespectful.
Bisqwit wrote:
And, I am being WAY too tolerant with xebra already. I should have perm-banned him already when he started his hoodlum edits shortly after I submitted Star Control II. And it doesn't seem like he has gotten any more respectful after that either.
Why should stating that one has a disagreement with the site administration be a bannable offense? I'll admit that it was not the most mature way for him to deal with the issue, but I would expect you to be tolerant, and try to work through the problem in a mature and reasonable fashion rather than jumping to a ban. From my perspective, both sides has been lacking in tact and maturity when dealing with this situation. The reason I am taking issue with your behavior, and not xebra's, is because you have the power to ban, and are threatening to use it. Xebra only has the power to make statements, which can do no harm to anyone unless they allow those statements to bother them. And, apart from xebra's abrasive behavior when asking questions about your faith, he can and does make positive contributions to the forum. If you were to ban xebra for this, you would reasonably have to ban phil, jxq, xkeeper, zurreco, warp, and myself, who have each at times been more abrasive in behavior than xebra currently is.
