I am still having no luck getting 10 rupees out of the wallhands. My position in the room, the monster's position in the room, the number of hearts/bombs/rupees, the frame I enter the room on, etc., all seem to have absolutely no effect on the items I drop. I can affect whether or not an item drops, but not which ones. For example, the wallhands 1-5 in my WIP always seem to drop a fiver, a heart, a clock, and two singles, respectively. This is the only point in the game where I need such a specific drop from so few monsters ... the rest of the game is just bomb management, which I think I can handle. But I'm going to need some help either getting another fiver from the wallhands, or in getting one from the aquamentus. I honestly can't go on because I need to gamble right after this.

Read his post again, nitwit. He said he loved the idea. Where from that you concluded he "doesn't like runs that don't focus only on speed", I do not know. Maybe you've been drinking too much urine from the ugly horse featured in your avatar?
You are ... completely clueless. Read the whole thread.

Well, I've run into a major snag already. First of all, FCEU somehow jacked up my FCM, so to try to fix it I just started a new movie and loaded up a savestate I'd archived. But now it says it starts from an embedded savestate instead of from power-on ... even though it starts from power-on. Anyways, I have no idea what to do about that. Just as big a problem is I can't get the wallhands to drop me 10 rupees. I thought perhaps I could get 5 from the wallhands and 5 from the the boss, but all the aquamentus ever drops are hearts and fairies. So far I've gained some time on the Famtasia run due to the following:
  • Entered the ZELDA code ~twice as fast, and a frame here or there when using the continue shortcut.
  • Two damage boosts.
  • Killed the bat room in L1 faster.
  • Sacrificed a tiny amount of time to get some bombs from the goriyas, so I will be able to bomb the aquamentus.
But I can't go on if I can't get those 10 rupees. So, someone help me. Here's the movie file: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1328/xebra-zelda-v1.fcm

Also, for some reason Famtasia now completely freezes my system. It didn't used to do that ... but it does now. When any of you have a minute, could you fast forward through Sleepz's run and just tell me on which frame he grabs each piece of the triforce?

I'm going to try to pull a Phil on this run. Except for correcting a few minor errors, I plan on making only tactical changes. I don't have any experience time attacking this type of game, so it's anyone's guess if I will be able to improve upon the second quest as much as Phil did on the first. That being said, the benefits of frame advance have already made themselves evident, as I was able to enter the ZELDA code roughly a billion times faster than Sleepz did on Crummytasia. I realize my reputation precedes me ... so wish me luck! I'll try to keep you guys updated as I hit important milestones.

Hmm, well, we don't actually have a movie idea, yet. But we're willing to entertain suggestions.

Since the Genesis forum doesn't get much love, possibly some of you don't know that this thread is just a spoof of this one, and born of a mildly entertaining IRC conversation pirate_sephiroth and I had. Anyway, we may as well make this topic useful. Has anyone done any serious planning for a swordless run? Are there any other interesting restrictions we could place on the game?

Lmao. Your opinion is null and void. You don't seem to understand how insane this run is; I'm surprised we can even do it with the restrictions we've placed on ourselves. Our idea is stupid? You are stupid. Read my post again, read that we're doing the game in an unorthodox way rather than just boringly rushing through and killing everything as fast as possible, even if it means burning down a tree. If you don't like runs that don't focus only on speed, then good for you.

Pirate_sepiroth and I were talking in IRC and we decided we wanted to make a completely ownage run of The Legend of Zelda. We don't actually have the patience or skill to improve upon Phil's run, so we quickly came to the conclusion that it would be much more entertaining to impose arbitrary restrictions on the run, rather than aiming for speed or accuracy:
  • No burning down of any trees, except where required.
  • No shuriken.
  • No shuriken really means 1 shuriken.
  • Don't start the game as soon as possible because the intro music is really nice.
This will be a speed run, yes, but it is not meant to compete against Phil's time. This is a glitch/entertainment video, meant to show ways of playing the game that would most definitely and absolutely be totally and completely 100% without a doubt impossible without tool assistance, such as figuring out how to use a shuriken in a game that has no such item. Let pirate_sephiroth and me know what you think! We should have a WIP up soon!

It also puzzles me, Kyrsimys, that shurikens are thrown in numerous places throughout the movie, despite that stated goal.

I'm not sure your logic is sound there, pirate_sephiroth. I made a video of Arnold Palmer Tournament Golf that I didn't think was that great, which is probably why I didn't make a thread about it and then insult everyone that tried to tell me in the nicest way possible that it stank.

I thought that the Brazil - France game was horribly slow in the first half.
I think it only seems slow because the French defense shut Brazil down so effectively. Brazil has some players with fancy moves, but none of them are playmakers of Zidane's caliber.
Also, that looked like offside when Henry made the goal, but I guess it wasn't.
Henry was unequivocably onsides, there's no question. Just go watch any of the innumerable videos of the goal that are now online. Remember, you only have to be onsides at the moment the ball is kicked. After that, you may position yourself anywhere you like.

The .smv is a human being?
Are you honestly implying that in your previous post, you meant it as the file and not Bean? Bullshit.
Actually, you just interpreted the sentence incorrectly. Had Graveworm been referring to Bean as an it, he would have had to say, "it can finish it in under 30 minutes," where the blue it is now Bean and the red it is the run. Graveworm didn't include an object, though, so finish was used intransitively (which is unusual, but perfectly valid), so the most obvious (and correct) interpretation is "it (the movie) can [terminate] in under 30 minutes." I often wonder why people who don't speak English as a native language argue about such things with people that do. It doesn't even make sense for Graveworm to refer to Bean as an it, such a thing is completely invalid in English. There are languages where referring to a person as an it is an insult, but English isn't one of them. It's just incorrect. So if it seems a native speaker is referring to a person as an it, in almost every case you can rest assured that you are interpreting the context incorrectly.

It keeps the professional level closer to the amateur (w?) level, hence the audience can better identify with the players. IMO that's a good thing. If it introduces more errors to the results then so be it... At least you can say that it keeps things more interesting. ;)
I watch professional sports to be impressed by elite skills, not to "identify with the players." I can't dunk, and I don't have to be able to do so to like seeing it. I expect referees not to interfere with my enjoyment by @#$%ing up calls.

While I'm in aggressive mode, I would like to point out how incredibly stupid it is to call football soccer and rugby football. American Football: A) Is not played with the feet, and B) Does not use a ball.
Soccer is derived from "association football," while rugby itself is actually short for "rugby football," which is where the football in American football comes from. So people on both sides of the ocean are just using abbreviated forms of the "real" names of the sports. It should also be noted that "foot-" doesn't mean exclusively "done with the feet." It also means "on foot," as in "footsoldier." It is therefore not unreasonable to assume the reason "association football" and "rugby football" are both called football is because they are ball sports played on foot which have origins in the same protosport, and not because they are ball sports played with the feet. As for your contention that American football and rugby football are not played with balls, I think perhaps you are referring to the fact that their balls are much poorer approximations to a true sphere than the ball used in association football? Well, firstly, "ball" does not mean "perfectly spherical object." It just means "rounded object," and in some cases means the even less sphere-like "rounded protuberance," as in the ball of the foot.

This run is looking really great. I don't think there's any doubt in anyone's mind that this "test run" should be published, emulator limitations and annoying inventory screen be damned.

Let us not be pedantic. The input should end when it no longer affects gameplay, as usual.
