That just proves you can't light the left eye during the cutscene for the right eye. Given that, it does seem a bit unlikely you can light both eyes at once, but we still don't know what would happen if you hit both eyes with an explosion at the same time. (If it's possible to do so.)

You can't rush a melody like that, mwl. It's just not right.

It doesn't ask for your address, just your postal code, and it doesn't even display that, just what city you live in. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of stalking potential there ... (especially since how many of us know each other's real name anyways?)

Well, he got highlighting and reflections this time around. I, for one, dig his new threads. He's so ... Super Nintendo! NES is so 80's, guys.

Your avatar does rock, JXQ. However, it looks "dirty" if you know what I mean. I took the liberty of cleaning it up for you:

True, but that's just because GuanoBowl is a pimp in ninja's clothing. The intent was just to see what could be done, and to find unforseen problems.

After some testing, Dacicus seemed fairly confident you can't light both eyes with a single chu. But I thought the problem was averted with Acryte's new trick to enter the great fairy fountain without a bomb? I am confused now because I thought the problem was solved yet mwl sounds worried again.

Here's some more optimizations if anyone wants to do this run:
  • 3:16:33 - Run straight onto the elevator and do your business at the bottom of the shaft without your friend. Go back and pick him up when you are done, that way you don't have to wait for him to sloooowly walk to the elevator twice.
  • 9:14:40 - This is just before the room transition where you fight two guards before the room with the pool. If you hold B and C here, you will run-jump through the entire next room, and make it into the pool room. Even cooler, you will take one jump into the pool room, trigger the "falling into water" animation, but simultaneously be shot by a guard and killed, even though it looks like you never get hit. You can immediately press any button and continue, and you will start in the pool room, having bypassed completely the lengthy fight scene. Something similar might work elsewhere.

Does anyone have a copy of this run? I may have found a minor shortcut.

I thought there was some cockamamie scheme to light both eyes in the Dodongo Cavern with but a single chu?

It would be cool if someone could manipulate Carock enough to land all hits at once, or atleast as near as possible. :D
As far as I can tell it's only important that the last one be as near as possible.

Just a comment to all you Carock naysayers ... what about the fight looks inoptimal? It takes him 8 hits to kill the boss, same as anyone else, and none of the shots missed, and Carock fires them all at the same rate as he would had any other strategy been used. I thought the Carock fight was very creative and I'm surprised everyone is giving him so much flak about it.

Until you can show the first pattern is definitively faster than the second pattern, just give it a rest. The timing looks identical on paper. Personally, I think the run looks great.

I'm not a programmer, but here are what I think are the most important features:
  • Gamers will load states out of order. People screw up, it's going to happen. That's why it's important to store a complete movie file in each savestate.
  • The ability to remap all keys used during play and recording.
  • The ability to advance by a single frame.
  • The ability to export to AVI during playback.
  • The ability to start recording from a savestate.
  • A display for the frame counter and which buttons are being pressed.
  • It happens many times that a player will save a state and immediately wish they hadn't, and desire to recover the state they just overwrote. If you store the most recently overwritten state, you can give us limited "undo" capabilities. I don't even think this is implemented in any of our emulators to date, but it seems incredibly simple to do and would likely be appreciated.
  • If the emulator lets the player set options that might affect playback, these settings should be saved in the movie file and automatically loaded during playback. Again, I don't believe any of our current emulators do this, but it seems so simple and would be so much appreciated.
  • Read-only toggle, so that loading a savestate will cause the movie to play from that savestate instead of record from it.
Can anyone else think of anything? Edit: see http://tasvideos.org/DesiredEmulatorFeatures.html

When I went there (was it really 8 years ago? wow) there was a McLaren F1 in some showroom somewhere. I know everybody's all about the Bugatti Veyron now but it was still cool to see. I wasn't really that excited about the various palaces that the royalty live in, since they just look like big run-down boxes and not the sweet granite and marble monstrosities with towers and ramparts and whatnot that we get in the movies. I think the things that most impressed me were Stonehenge and the Roman baths in Bath. I don't recall how far away those things are from London but they'd be worth the trip for me.

Well, not everyone lives in Finland, Giga. I go to Austin from time to time, I'll let you know the next time I'm in town and we can have fun being strangers together :P .

[MEKA] looks indeed nice, and it seems it already has support for savestates and frame advance. maybe you could mail the author (with an example such as vba-rerecording) to ask him if he could implement the missing functionalities for us ?
Ok, I did.
