Is anyone here interested in a absolutely non-tool assisted any% speedrun competition of this game? I think its interesting to compare the final ingame-times with each other. I wonder how many of you guys can beat this game in less than 1 hour. Rules should be like this: * Rerecords and slowdowns are not allowed, if you make a mistake you have to play further or start over. * Turbo Buttons (auto-fire) are not allowed. * As a proof the movie should be recorded on nitsujas Snes9x improvement (best with WIP1 timing, fake mute and sound samples enabled to prevent desyncs) and posted anywhere. Is anyone interested in this?

Hmm, I got a bit rusty cause I havent played this game very long time. Did first speedrun in 52 min (46% items) but will try to improve this time in next try.

Did another speedrun again in 52 min but this time only 40% items. In this run I save time by collecting less items and by skipping the Crocomire-fight to get the Grappling Beam but therefor I lose time fighting Draygon without this Grappling Beam to kill him fast. Also with 1 less energy tank I had to be more carefully with damage taking...

Looks like a 1 Poster topic... Anyway I managed to improve the time from 52 min to 50 min and finally to even 47 min which is the best I could do for now. I uploaded the movie together with another new one on www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm in the new "Skill-Based Movies" section for those who are interested.

I did another any% speedrun and managed to improve my final time to even 0:44 min! http://www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm In fact I was only 15-20 sec away of 0:43 which is annoying because I did a unnecessary error at the Metroids (one of them grabbed me) which probably costed me this 15 sec for 0:43 :-( so maybe I will try to improve this time in the next days. Otherwise the run is very good done.

I only get like 30 missiles 15 super missiles and 4-5 energy tanks while playing for absolute speed. (4 energy tanks if I save and 5 if I don't.) I guess I could get somewhere in the high 30's if I tried, but I don't like playing Super Metroid on an emulator, so I wont. :) And really, couldn't someone just do one with like 10000 rerecords and then just edit away the rerecord count and say that they did it without rerecordings?

Graveworm: 1. If you are that good in this game I don't see a problem why not to contribute your skill with a movie to show. There is no reason not to use a Emu as its much more handy to playback and to make AVIs than anything else. Also we make such movies for entertainment not for competition on SDA so it doesn't matter. 2. Of course you can make a lot of rerecords and then remove them. Thats the reason you can never proof that a emu run is legit. I record this movies to see and compare my own skill and to try improving myself in this game so it would be pretty pointless of me to cheat here especially when I record a TAS for this game anyway. I would always be glad to see some sub 40 min runs if someone with the needed skill plans to record one...

And you actually didn't think I knew? If you go over at metroid2002's forum you'll find at least 500 posts by someone named "graveworm", and that's me.

Not exactly Super Metroid, but I just did my first real speedrun on Metroid. This is a 100% item run, finishing in 1:03. Pretty damn close, I surprised myself. =) Played on FCEU with a Playstation controller. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/491/Metroid100p1h03m.fcm

Just did my first serious 100% speedrun ever in 1:11. It's a skillbased live-run that was played single-segmented in one sitting. My route wasn't very optimal because of the lack of experience in a 100% run but I think the final time is OK for the first try. Currently too lazy to upload the smv though, maybe later or after a improved version.

was that time in game or real time? either way it is an awsome time for 100% item collection. I would watch the smv if you uploaded it.

It's a in-game time of course. Such a real-time is impossible by far. Alright, I uploaded the 100% in 1:11 run in the skill-based section on my site: http://www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm

I decided to make a 2nd 100% speedrun because the first one was pretty bad in planning. I could improve the in-game time to 1:07 with which I'm satisfied for now. Available in skill-based section on: http://www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm

I actually tried to watch your movies, but both desynced at Kraid, I wonder what's wrong. :/

yea desyncs for me too at kraid using improvement7 edit: the newest movie doesnt desync but the first one did. Looks great Saturn, you managed to pull off alot of precise tricks and this is only 12 minutes slower than the multi segmented world record. Seeing this run really makes me want to see a 100% TAS of this fine game.

Thanks hero, I'm glad you like it. Oops sorry, I forgot to mention that I recorded the runs on Snes9x improvement6 not 7. I always thought there is absolutely no difference in the movie recording between this versions for most games. I would gladly switch to improvement7 but I can't toggle the turbo-buttons on this version (normaly by pressing shift and one of the 6 keys right above the arrow keys which I need for TAS-ing all the way. In improvement6 it works but in 7 I couldn't find a way to set them (haven't found them in "Customize Hotkeys" option). If someone who knows it (nitsuja?) could give me a hint how to set them in v7 I would be glad.

I decided to try this, but had to abandon it at the Gravity suit due to low hp. :( Oh, and I was ~1 minute ( about 4000 frames) ahead of Saturns 1:07 movie at this point. The only reason I was so low on hp was because it's completely impossible to play with the keyboard, and this is why I wrote I don't like playing Super Metroid emulated. :)

Then simply buy a USB-Adapter for your SNES Pad, once you do it you will never have problems like this. A must for a gamer who likes to play on emulators without losing the original feeling.

VERY entertaining movie! This is just what I was looking for. I had downloaded a multi-part AVI file done by someone over at Metroid2002.com, but the quality of the file and the overall appeal of the movie was just lacking. I had been looking for a good .smv file of a 100% run and yours is perfect for me. The slight errors and "flaws" actually make it more appealing as the run seems more realistic.

Just want to note that I added a link to the classic Snes9x-improvement6 version in case someone wants to see the 44 min any% run which desynced at Kraid on newer Snes9x versions. On v6 it plays just fine now. Check http://www.freewebs.com/saturnsmovies/snes9xmovies.htm for the download.
