For those not aware, these two hacks are fairly simple; they're modifications of Pokemon Emerald and Pokemon FireRed that allow you to catch all 386 Pokemon (from the 3rd generation) without trading. Until we have a version of VBA-RR that supports link play, I think these are the best bet for "catch 'em all" runs. Pokemon Emerald 386. Patch to Pokemon - Emerald Version (USA, Europe).gba with CRC32 1F1C08FB Pokemon FireRed 386. Patch to Pokemon - Fire Red Version (USA).gba with CRC32 DD88761C I don't have the patience for a run like this, but I figured one of you guys might.

This is a different sort of run possibility. I've heard of these hacks but not played them, but they certainly have potential for a 100% Pokedex TAS. I just watched this morning the WIP of the Pokemon Blue 100% dex run, and it is, for me at least, quite fascinating. I'm exploring FR at the minute but there's a lot that needs to be known in FRLG before a TAS can be undertaken. For now, a route plan for a 386 run can at least be planned out. Emerald can be done now though, if anyone wants to work on that.

I would enjoy this kind of run if it was done but, honestly, I don't believe enough people would agree with me. I consider the Pokemon Blue 151 run interesting because of the incredible possibility of cutting the pokedex completion time by a creative use of route planning, glitch abuse and heavy luck manipulation. Despite that, there's also a good dependency on repetition to achieve the goals in that run, which takes down the entertainment value significantly. Seeing that there are no time-saving glitches to help completion in 3rd gen, there would be no interesting way to achieve the objectives, only the usual "enter the grass and catch it". Also, the fact that it uses a hack to make the challenge possible and that the number of pokemon to be caught is a lot larger is very aggravating, the run could easily enter the 6-hour mark.
