Did you know that you can destroy the missile silos at the end of the forest stage? You don't even have to use special weapons if the normal weapon is wide enough. I don't think that's the case here, though, so you could probably only destroy the upper row without wasting any specials. Not that it matters but I was just curious. As for the run, it's looking great! I can't wait for you to reach the later stages.

Thanks for the comments guys. I originally didnt think it was possible killing him in one pass using a crusader and a lev 3 gun. I was originally going to fight him with a tigershark for my "4th level" (I did a one-pass test run with the tigershark in my research and it was possible). I dont know if it's a coincidence but he had exactly the amount of hp necessary to kill with every single shot optimized (my first Crusader test run was a 2-pass where he died on first shot of the 2nd pass). I dont think it's possible to get even one more bomb/shot in there before the weakpoint is invulnerable again. Kyrsimys.. after reading your post, i was aware that the missile silos could be destroyed but for some reason I didnt think destroying them gave you money. I just did a couple quick tests and it turns out that they do give you cash. That's a dilemma because one of the criteria I was following was 100% kills (by kills that means anything that gives you points and cash... enemy missiles dont). I'm going to have to redo that part of the video.

that Forest Fortress battle was MEAN. It always took me 2 passes when I played on a console. You think you're gonna do a one pass fight with Minks too ? :D Actually it's quite easy of you focus on the cannons... but perhaps by destroying the bridge? What's your route through the stages? My route is always: Base -> Ground Carrier -> Forest Fortress -> Enemy Airforce -> Enemy Airforce 2 (the 3 'lil stealths) -> Seavet -> Minks -> Canyon -> *this point I get money for eighter of the planes with Gunpod or if I played with the first plane here I usally get it without doing any moneyruns to Convoys* -> Mountain Base -> Last Base I hate the boss at Mountain Base, even with slowdown I managed to get hit because of those Flamethrower-cannons

i dont want to spoil any info on Minks so you will just have to wait and see :) as for stage order, now that i have enough money for the tigershark, the order doesnt really matter anymore. the bosses will be fought primarily with special weapons and the gun will be maxed by the time i finish the "4th stage". i'm doing a couple tests on the ground carrier right now. But most likely i'm doing the stage the cursor puts me on. i believe the order is Base, Fortress, Carrier, Minks, Canyon, Air Force 1, Seavet, Air Force 2, Mountain, Final. i dont remember who attacks the base first... seavet or AF2 but either way they both will fall fast :)

Wow been a long time since an update! Sorry for the delay. Been very busy at work/personal issues past few weeks so I can only work on the movie a piece at a time. It might be a while until my next update so I'll share what I have now for those interested. First four stages (first stage, fortress, desert carrier, minks) are now complete. I also redid a chunk of the second stage. Now instead of dodging the vertical missiles I destroy all the missile silos including all the missiles that are launched from the silos. Destroying the silos is a requirement for the "100% kills". Destroying the missiles launched eliminates slowdown so it actually shaved off a few seconds from the movie. Also it looks cool :) Hope u guys like it http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/40/georgexi-U.N.Squadron-FourStages.smv

Looking good so far. Especially digging the boss battles and abuse of the special weapons against them

I Agree with Yarbles. The Boss battles was AWESOME :) I really liked the way you used all the special weapons. Keep it up.

I'll follow with the flow. Great! I'm gonna be a bit irritating though, wouldn't it be possible to spend all your specialweapons on the DesertStage so that you avoid the delay when the game counts the remaning weapons? You might save a few frames there.
Bein' away for like five years, and not a single new post in the ZSNES forum... :'-(

Yeah I thought about that. Same thing in stage 1 I have a handful of leftover bombs. I decided that since the time saved is minimal (less than one second) I'm not going to worry about it. Plus I know in some upcoming stages, like Air Force 2, Submarine, and last stage, I will have leftover special weapons for sure (unless I purposely drop bombs on nothing). But for the most part the special weapon count will be 0 :)

Any progress on this? and those leftover bombs... well you could kill some enemies in the stages with them. I still see you shooting enemies with your machine gun so there you could use the remaining bombs.

Have you given up on this, georgexi? I just played this again and dreamed of seeing an awesome complete TAS of this.

I'm creating a new thread on this since I kinda hijacked the other one :) It's been a couple months since my last update so just some new info for those still interested. This run hasn't been cancelled... I simply dont have a whole lot of time to dedicate to it. Basically I'm working on it piece by piece whenever I get a chance. Hard to believe it's been over a year since I started :O 1. Redid parts of stages 1 and refought the stage 3 boss. Now every stage I end with no special weapons in inventory. This shaves about 1 second off the final time. 2. Turns out the Submarine and Wolf Pack stages can be skipped entirely! This saves a lot of time so there are only 8 stages to complete instead of 10. 3. 7 out of 8 stages are done. I'm currently trying to figure out the fastest way to kill the final boss. I can already tell this final battle is going to be annoying since there are lots of guns and probably a lot of lag.

Man, the WIP was pretty sweet. I didn't realize that so much could be with the special weapons (especially the boss fights!). Hope someone is still working on this~

i had most of it done but lost it all when my harddrive crashed. thankfully i had it backed up and all that's left to do is the final stage. i just havent had the time or motivation to finish it yet. kick-ass videos take a damn long time :/

i have most of this video complete but i dont have the time nor the motivation to finish it. wondering if any kickass UN Squadron players out there is willing to finish for me. All that's left to do is complete the final stage in an "entertaining" manner. the tricky part is saving exactly enough specials to kill the two bosses. i have a demo of me fighting the final boss so i know exactly what is needed to defeat him quickly. we'd still have to calculate how many specials are needed to defeat the helicopter miniboss before him. the rest of the specials you'd have to "waste" on normal enemies and of course get 100% kills without missing a shot. but anyway if anyone is interested, let me know. i would love to see this get published at some point.

Err, are the mechanics at all confusing and or complicated? If it's simply getting 100% kills/no misses/entertaining without any need for serious effort, I could help you out. Do yourself a favor and take in to account the last two sentences before responding.

yeah it's basically 100% kills/no misses/no damage/be entertaining with the main emphasis on "be entertaining". the only tricky part is how many special weapons you have to "spend" prior to fighting the two bosses which i still have to calculate. i believe i have an interested person who's willing to do the final stage for me in an entertaining manner (which is the lengthy part). i'm going to handle the mini-boss and final boss myself since i know exactly how to abuse the special weapon exploit. thanx for offering

Wow, you're STILL doing this? That's awesome. This has got to be the longest TAS project ever. Your first post about it is dated 02-13-05, so that's about 2 years and 8 months?
