You guys know Werewolf? I'm not sure if it's that good game to do a speedrun of, but at least later stages are quite some difficult to play, plus bosses are cool and difficult that I remember of. The game also has great soundtrack! ;-) What do you think? Anyone had a thought of doing speedrun of this gem?

I just heard of this game for the first time last month. I agree, the music is pretty bad ass. I didn't get very far because I couldn't figure out how to play it. >_<

Hmm, actually I think it would make really interesting speedrun. Just played it after quite some time and it really is as difficult as I remembered, especially the boss fights. It would be really interesting see what kind of strategies there would be. Or is this game just so unknown? I can't believe it. ;-)

That's a shame Walker, since you were the one I expected most to take a grab on this project :) And yeah, I think you lose life when you hold attack which causes some kind of earthquake attack or so, and the backflip is pretty interesting too and I guess it would be much in use since you're invisible during the flip as Boh said. Btw, the reason why I would personally say that "it's not good" is the difficulty level, the boss fights gets really hard, but the game still has it's appeal since the bosses are so different and nicely done overally and the bad ass music, really kicking ;) Maybe invisible flip would be overused? I don't really think so because when you execute the flip, the screen doesn't roll forward, you will only get to very edge of the screen, you have to walk normally to get screen rolling forward. At least this is how I remember.

Hehe.. I hated that game so much when I was a kid. I remember it was kinda difficult. First levels were kinda easy though. It makes it even more fun to see a run on it though, just to see someone put up with such an annoying game. Can't wait to see it. :)

I remember not being able to beat the first level in this game, and not being able to finish it without the time running out with savestates. :/ Then again, maybe I just suck at this game.

Well, I've beat it with states and got to say the last boss really is a pain in the ass. :)

Yeah, the game is hard, but I managed to beat when I borrowed from a friend. The biggest issue for me was the fact that jump and attack button were reversed comparing to any other platformer. If I remember correctly. One of the greatest games for NES in my opinion. And yeah, musics whoop ass.

Ah, yes. Werewolf. In some ways, I really hated this game - especially because the attack and jump buttons were indeed switched, as Kilu said. Though this is a game for which I'd definitely enjoy seeing a timeattack. I'd do it myself, but I feel this is still a little out of my reach for a timeattack run. On the note of the chargeup that Boh and Fihlvein were talking about: The life loss and massive earthquake effect only happen if you're in werewolf or 'super-werewolf' form, and I believe it gets less useful later on - at least in terms of using it against bosses. The chargeup is just a ranged attack for human form. But I don't imagine the player, in a timeattack of this game, being in human form at any time except the very beginning, against the first mini-boss.

This is quite a tough game, but I think it would make for an interesting time attack, especially a damage-free run if that's at all possible (I kind of doubt it). I the backflip maneuver is done by pressing A and B simultaneously. It's helpful in that you're immune to harm while in mid-flip, so that may help in saving some time.

It's still on my todo-list, if no one makes it before me that is. I'm not doing this for awhile though because I'm about to start another game.

im still quite new to this game (and was about to delete it) when i saw this. >R.I.P. old link< EDIT3: Tafatt has pointed out some issues with the first boss (well, first Giant Head), so im starting over (and using the L+R, U+D FCEU version). so what you see will be cleaned up (especially level 2).

GLITCH found. can fall through certain walls. http://nvdata.pilif.ch/Werewolf_take2.zip SUPA-DUPA NEWER EDIT: "Monster" is dead... and what a pain. the first part of the battle is unnervingly slow... the second part really picks up however (damn collision detection :)). im still a bit confused about him taking damage... anyhow, up next is the final level and Dr. Faryan. *que creepy soundtrack voices* let me know what you think. :)

Wow! Not bad at all. I'm impressed! This is farther than I ever came and it is quite a run too. Very good, keep going on this one. Kklo

But how will you critique the run if you don't know the game, huh?

UPDATE: FINISHED! http://nvdata.pilif.ch/Werewolf_take2.zip Faryan had a PAINFUL first form and a tedious wait for the second even MORE painful form... the second part of the battle is weird though... if you stand too close to him, he won't attempt his attack and he's pretty much dead. im still curious about how the damage works though... on both him and Monster. anyhow, ill let this sit for a while. as always, let me know what you think :)

Damn the bosses are a snooze... is there really no way to speed them up? Did you consider not using the "kill everything on screen" on the stone bosses things (the ones like the first enemy you meet), and saving them for the big guys? The stone men are probably faster to kill with the regular weapons than the real bosses. The other werewolf stopped blinking in the air, but maybe that's just visual and you can't really hurt him before he lands. What does the anger icons do?

Damn the bosses are a snooze... is there really no way to speed them up? -there may be some ways to speed them up... but if im low on life and cant do the howl, im screwed to know how to. Monster would especially be a waste because i can only do 2 damage to him (Monster is the catepillar freak that disappears and then learns to fly). Did you consider not using the "kill everything on screen" on the stone bosses things (the ones like the first enemy you meet), and saving them for the big guys? The stone men are probably faster to kill with the regular weapons than the real bosses. -...if you mean Giant Head, i'll go back through and retry it. i believe on the last level, i can do 4 damage to Faryan's werewolf form with a howl. Giant Head's act the same (take 4 damage and then leap to the other side). the only problem is aligning yourself for the second hit most of the time. and each punch as a werewolf does 2 damage on them. however, it doesn't say for his dark lord persona, but im assuming it would only do 2 damage. The other werewolf stopped blinking in the air, but maybe that's just visual and you can't really hurt him before he lands. -i tried hitting Faryan as a Werewolf in midair. i also tried to hit him sometime before he landed (like a frame or so) but he wouldnt budge. i think his flip works somewhat like mine does. What does the anger icons do? -Anger icons make you into a Super Werewolf (it takes 5). in this form, i believe more damage is done (x2) and you are faster. i remember reading the effects were limited and that you reverted back to a normal werewolf eventually. also, i dont believe i get the choice to "transform" as it happens ASAP when i collect the 5th icon. ...ill try a test tomorrow and see how it works out (though i dont see me being able to keep them for Monster). ...back to bed. :)

Nice play through. Why do you use the special attacks at the mini bosses though? I have a slight memory of those guys being very easy to defeat, and not as annoying as the bosses.
