I'm not feeling well enough to help, but I want to say I really appreciate both your 1:05 TAS and the work you're doing to optimize the route and these spatulas. It'll make it a lot easier to make an awesome, optimized TAS sometime in the future. Some of these times, like Lasers Are Fun And Good For You, can be improved by re-enabling kill planes/the hand. I suppose routing that will be the next thing to start testing.

4:43 and 5 spatulas is much better than 9:35 and 8 spatulas. Link to video 4:52 saved over the old route, and 3 less spatulas. Mr Krab's Dream takes 1:22, Goo Lagoon kids probably take around a minute, and maybe we can throw in another sock spatula or find a strat to get Path Through The Goo in FDG? At any rate, I can't imagine not being able to replace these spatulas with faster ones. I also believe skipping Robo Sandy and temporarily delaying Goo Lagoon will save time due to the multitude of BBB/BBBJ's that can be done. I'll time that whenever I get around to messing with this game more, I'm busy the next day or so.

How exactly would BBB be done if Robo Sandy was skipped? Or did you mean do it later?

The new route skips a sock in Downtown, but you can replace it with the sock on the other side of the Lighthouse, assuming there isn't a faster sock you can get. You can get it by walking around the walkway ring, then walking back and entering the Lighthouse; should take 10-15 seconds.

I believe that sock takes 11 seconds, and that's an awfully long time for a sock, there are faster ones to replace it with later on. Also: Link to video

I don't have the game iso with me to test this right now, but would it be possible to use cruise boost during the robo spongebob fight along with disable the hand to scale up the south wall or the robot and reach the invisible spatula at the beginning?

That's an interesting idea. It's not on the top of the list of things I want to mess with, since as far as I can imagine, that fight is necessary no matter how it's done, and I'm mostly looking into routing right now. I'll let that idea float around until someone finds time to mess with. I know back in the day, I tried to interrupt a bubble helmet at it's peak with one of Robo Spongebob attacks, and then bubble helmet again out of that to reach the trigger. It didn't go high enough, if I remember correctly. Edit: Mr Krabs' Dream takes 1:22, Goo Lagoon Kids take 0:48, that means to save time over Downtown Spatulas, we just need one more spatula that takes less than 2:33. Buying the 3500 spatula from Mr Krabs takes 1:51. So at the very least, the new DBB route saves 42 seconds. Link to video Edit: Woohoo I finally found a way to do this Link to video Edit: Found this... I don't know what to make of it (requires the boxes activate). Link to video Edit: Box BBBs are absolutely stupid, but if I could manage to get one to work, I could open the box, at the bottom, talk to bubble buddy, get slide slowdown, take the box, and BBB to the trigger ending the race, allowing both spatulas to be quickly collected. Link to video This spatula takes roughly 1:50, making it technically faster than a Mr Krabs spatula by about a second (with room for improvement too). This means the new Downtown route saves 43 seconds at least. Edit: Massive time-save on rooftops, and GL as well. Link to video Link to video I've come up with a base route that puts off GL and DBB until we have bubble bowl, I need to count spatulas to figure out for sure, but I imagine this route should work if I put off DBB until we have cruise bubble as well.

How exactly do you re-enable the hand for this to work?

The normal method to disable the hand only works on kill-plane-style hands and timer hands. So the ones where there's a physical trigger that instantly grabs you if you touch it, or ones where spongebob is "stuck" for a certain amount of time and the hand grabs you. Out of bounds sand isn't disabled, and getting grabbed by the hand from out of bounds sand re-enables it everywhere else. The only exception to this is if you do the saving glitch, in which case out of bounds sand is disabled as well. Edit: yay Link to video

Total time saved from everything new since my last TAS is reaching the 3 and a half minute mark, I believe. Might even be a little more because there're some BBBs I never timed but they clearly save time. Link to video

You think that sub 1 hour is possible now?

Well done, great new applications of those tricks. How did you get the Connect the Towers spatula in the new route? Did you hit the robot with one of those bubble bowls? If we could eliminate the cruise bubble entirely from Goo Lagoon, it might save a little time from not having to come back there later.

Yes.

I don't know about that, Kids are MUCH faster with cruise boost, and because menuing takes a matter of frames, it doesn't take long to do them later.

woohoo I finally found a way to do this, sadly it doesn't fit into the current route well, (unless we find a way to get the other spatula here with hand enabled) Link to video

That backwards slide looked easy and fast in TAS lol 1. What's stopping using BBB to reach the acorn? 2. How did you slow down a bit around 1 minute in? If super high speed makes you pass the acorn, would that moment of slowing down allow you to turn around to reach it?

1. The hand mainly. There are two checkpoints that can be quickly reached as spongebob at the start of the stage. One gives hardly any speed at all, and the other almost has enough speed to land on the slide, but not quite enough it seems. If I could land on the slide, I could turn and jump to the spatula, solving the problem. I don't know if that's possible though. And if I can't land on the slide, the hand grabs me before I can do anything. 2. BBBs are strange. You only move at absolutely-absurd-speeds in certain states. Falling after a bubble bowl isn't one of those states, you still move pretty fast (depending on the area though). Jumping is one of those states where you move at absolutely-absurd-speeds, which is what I did after falling enough to not go over the wall. Also that backwards slide is easy and fast in general I believe. I actually didn't jump first frame on most of those jumps, if you have cruise boost than nothing matters.

Link to video saves 30-32 seconds, probably more if I optimized movement and clipped back inbounds for the spatula instead. !!! What's that? Two bosses broken in one day? Link to video Sadly these are the only bosses in the game with this kind of trigger to my knowledge, I had someone who know a decent amount about programming in this game look at the bosses and they said it was only these 2 and robot spongebob it could be done on.

That's awesome! I'm glad the Robot SpongeBob trick works for more bosses in the game. Do you have a Google Spreadsheet that shows all these new spatula times? The one for the 1:05 TAS doesn't seem to have changed in a while, and it's exciting to see the time getting pushed down.

At 30 seconds into the video, would it be possible to use cruise boost to hit the button and while the cutscene plays, grab the spatula nearby?

If I had a really slow cruise boost, then maybe. The spatula doesn't show up for a long time and if I'm touching the wall like I am in this video, I'm too far from being able to collect it.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WlGtkKMJ75qc0ksNVaVkEtO_dTuZxpgpvVfeYaIskjA/pubhtml I made this just now, so it's not very complete. but I think I'd rather fill out a second sheet with improvements and changes then edit the other one. I'll try to keep this up to date with all the new stuff.

For the King Jellyfish slide it's possible to use a BBBJ to jump behind the curtains and use the slide's collision detection to stop yourself on the slide (and not zip off into oblivion), allowing you go down the slide early, "skipping" the King Jellyfish fight (you still have to fight him to get the jelly, though). It can only be done from the respawn point closest to KJ, not the one beside Bubble Buddy. The only problem is the camera breaks, but I'm sure there's some sort of controller input timing that can be followed to go down the slide blindfolded. There wouldn't be much point in doing all of this after defeating KJ, though, since the curtains are already open.

Sorry for posting a million times in a row, but for Slidin' Texas Style, would it waste too much time to just warp to Patrick after doing Squid's Dream, walk into the OOB sand behind Bubble Buddy to re-enable the hand and then warp back to the Sandy's Dream entrance?

You can edit posts and just add stuff on instead of double posting, but really I don't think people care either way since I double post a lot of they're very different ideas in each post. That BBB is already known, I've tried to turn it enough to skip the slide entirely and land where the spatula is, I believe it's possible though I haven't done it yet. There really is no reason to do it without fighting King Jellyfish, nor is there anything you can do about the camera. All boss fights with a scripted camera like that will break if you go far enough away. We only re-enable the hand once in this run, and it's at the start of Goo Lagoon. We also disable the hand again upon entering the lighthouse in Downtown. The problem with Sandy's dream is that you need the hand disabled to get the first spatula, and re-enabled for the second, which means you not only have to leave and re-enter the area, but you need to change to Spongebob and take the box. It doesn't flow very nicely. I'm fairly certain that there could be a way to activate the spongeglide with the hand enabled, hopefully I can actually pull it off sometime.

Everything up to Robo-Sandy is tightly routed so why not get a start on things, right? Mermilar and Rock Bottom could still use some work but they won't effect the route for the first 15 (16) spatulas. Link to video Edit: Progress is coming along well, I'm now just over 8 minutes in. And I should be entering the Robo Sandy battle a whole 6.5 minutes faster than the old TAS... You have to keep in mind I'll have 2 less spatulas, but still. This route change is crazy for early game. All right! Is this one aiming for an optimized full TAS? It's looking smooth so far, almost at publication quality.
