I think I should just clarify that I'm not doing a TAS of this game, I'm showing off the non-TAS route that I've been making for this game, so that if someone wants to TAS it they have an idea of the tricks already known. The only thing I'm currently TASing is SA2B ILs.
I wasn't talking directly to you, I was talking to whoever is making it ... YOU'RE THE ONE DOING THE SA2B TAS!? :D
I quit TASing.

No one is actually making a TAS of this game right now (me and Ptorflaxendrosis where going to do an Any% glitched TAS with ingame codes but we stopped about 2 minutes in because we got annoyed). CoolKirby might do one someday? Sonicpacker and I were doing a TAS of SA2B Hero Story, but we stopped because no one wants to TAS mech levels. So instead I do ILs (individual levels), since it's not full game I don't submit them here, I just upload to Youtube.

What use do the ingame codes have for a speedrun? Do you mean you wanted to use the 1000 shiny objects code to eliminate money problems? And I'm guessing it was the optimization that annoyed you, right?

That's a very good way of putting it.

There is a code for 10 spatulas, so the route was like: start game, 10 spatulas x8, bubble bowl, cruise bubble, go to JF, disable hand, skip sandy, skip patrick, finish the game. I don't know if we would have submitted it, because it would have been so short, but it was more or less a test TAS that ended up showing us that we don't want to TAS this game.

Oh, I see. I don't think it would have been accepted here anyway, since cheat codes that are used to skip parts of the game like that aren't considered valid here. It would have been great for seeing the skips optimized though.

Yeah, the parts we had done were pretty cool, maybe if I find the wip on my old harddrive I'll upload it. I'm not sure if it's been posted on here before or not, but you can skip sandy without the saving glitch. it's a very hard trick, I'd TAS only, but really it can be done non-TAS. Pretty much what you do is disable the hand, then go behind the Jellyfish Fields taxi thing, then you can fall through the ground and fall under the invisible wall that the old method for skipping Sandy had to walk around, if you a really well timed bubble wand then jump, its possible to grab onto some random polygon on the other side of the wall and pull yourself up, and since the random polygons don't count as the "out of bounds sand" the hand wont grab you if you do it fast enough. (because as you all know, the disable hand glitch doesn't disable "out of bounds sand")

Wow! I don't think I've seen that in this thread before, but that would save a lot of time. Thanks for sharing that!

Hey all, I was browsing this thread because I wanted to start running this game. I'd very much appreciate some help on things like the best routes, explanations on glitches, trick, etc. and what the best place to start practicing would be. Thanks!

Check out the links on just this page: Brody's speedrun, the Game Resources page for this game, and the routes for Jellyfish Fields and Downtown Bikini Bottom are a great start to learning what can be done with this game.

the Game Resources page for this game
Could I get a link for that? I'm new to this site, so I'm not sure where it is.

You have to have a published run to edit Game Resources pages. I can PM you a copy of the code though, and then I'll put in your changes for you.

I've figured out a very consistent method for Goo Lagoon's cutscene skip as well as a way to get the Wack-A-Tiki sock as Spongebob: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLpW_Esedw0 Also, itspersonnal just uploaded his Goo Lagoon any% route: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxk7ZgveRWI

Found a few little tricks in Jellyfish Fields: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBq5e2xTioY Also here's a video of all the socks that my route collects in Jellyfish Fields: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBkhso0ZAw8

Oh hey so, the non-TAS route has been finished. Does anyone know where I should upload the text file? Is there a place on SDA for routes or anything?

SDA has pretty much the same topic system as TASvideos, locate the game thread on SDA and post it in there.

This is the current SDA thread for this game. You'll probably want to post it there.

Reading back at that thread, it's impressive that in 3 years, the game's completion time went from nearly 3 hours (2:58 according to the OP) to less than 90 minutes. :o

I think it's more so been within the past 6 months. That's when all the major glitches and skips were found. Actually, not much has really been found aside from the museum strats since Coels 1:25, which was 4 months ago. So really, the huge time drop happened from December to February of this year. :P

I'd just like to confirm that my theory on the Robo Spongebob skip was correct and both Robo Patrick and Robo Sandy have spatulas "hidden" as well. Patrick's is directly under the middle of the room, it's impossible to reach without moon jumping around the giant invisible walls to get under the stage. And even if you do collect it, it doesn't end the fight immediately for some reason, instead you fall forever and softlock the game. Sandy's is also in the middle of the room, though its not floating above nothing, so if you get it, you wont fall and softlock. Instead, Sandy's is under the ring you fight her in and there is ground down there. If we can find a way to clip though the floor during that fight then we can end it early. I've put a fair bit of testing into finding a way to clip through the ground without luck so far, I wouldn't be too surprised if someone found a way to use Sandy to get under the stage though. So yeah, let's get testing.

No one is currently TASing this game, we haven't even put much effort into a route. But, if you want to give it a go, I'm not going to stop you.
