Tuppenfall: I think it's very safe to assume that he has heard your request, evaluated it, and decided not to comply. No need to continue asking. antd: Glad you've been making progress. I was surprised to see you do the entire wall market cross-dressing scene. What exactly do you gain from the guy picking Cloud? I assume you timed whether it would be faster just to skip the optional items? Keep up the good work.

Andypro, antd is using http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/197341/31141 which will answer your Q edit: wonder if he is using meteor to view meshes to easily see the fastest route http://iloapp.worldofbits.com/data/_gallery/public/16/1248632567_resized.jpg?width=640&height=476

Picking Cloud over the girls is at least a minute faster, Tifa/Aeris selected means you go through a few battles whereas Cloud selected experiences none. BTW, why didnt you pick up the Hyper behind Don Corneo's bed?

Would it save time?

Well you need to sell stuff to get money for grenades, or the hyper could be used normally, the additional limit breaks might be worth it. You don't want to have to pick up the item far from save point after walking away from the house aeris is in like garland did in his run, but the TAS will need less grenades so maybe you don't even need that much money.

I have to pick up the item in Aeris' garden. I think it takes around 10 seconds.

Actually, about the same amount of grenades are used. Critical hits don't do much damage. The optimal strats use mostly grenades.

Is that item worth that much more than the other items you can get that are closer? And what about taking the time to finish a random encounter you have to enter or steal something to get money and items, that should take less than 10 seconds.

The only way I can continue this sooner rather than later, is if I can quickly learn the economic principles of comparative statics and matrix inversion ;)

to find the inverse of A just use gauss-jordan elimination on [A|I] and it will give you [I|A^-1] As long as you have nonzero determinate

We found that a mistake was made 30 minutes in. That mistake will cost at least 25-30 seconds. I'm not going back to fix it because it will take too long. And I am not willing to redo another 30 minutes of frame specific tedium. :P I'm having trouble manipulating enemy item drops. edit: desnyc issues. i may have to abandon if i cannot find a fix or workaround.

Can I suggest you take a random encounter to give you enough cash for the batteries? As for manipulating drops, I don't know what to suggest other than keep at it. If the latest version causes desyncs, you may also wish to stay with the previous version which has no apparent problems. Keep at it man, don't want to see you give up yet!

Btw, the battery issue is actually nonexistent :P It has been a long time since I worked on this run, so I forgot what the real issue was. The real issue is complicated, basically i have to get into an encounter before shinra hq. The problem is that I have to go back quite a while until I there's a field which allows random encounters. The 30 second fail was caused because I have to pickup the ether from Aeris' house. This means I have to shop an extra time. Right now, no version is syncing. x__x

Don't you have to go back to Aeris's house anyway to hear the backstory from Elmyra? You can get the Ether then (unless you need the cash beforehand?)

It decided to sync :D I have to accept a random encounter before shinra hq Current status: Elevator "1st" floor battle Manipulating Item drops: I have found so far that ending the battle on a different frame can produce different item drops. However, something else also causes different items to be dropped by the enemy. Does anyone have any TIPS so I can find out what else may be causing different items to be dropped?

I know on some FF games enemies have a Normal and Rare drop. I dunno if this is the case in FF7, but something similar might be the reason.

Update: Perfect elevator outcome And the password is KING! I'll put the latest segment on youtube, but does anyone prefer a direct download to the avi? (not the full run, just the current segment)

Are we going to see any more encodes soon? I'd quite like to watch the work in progress as it goes :-). Keep going man! EDIT: I don't mind either tbh as long as I can watch it! :-)

I can only make a video if it syncs. And I don't know if it will. Hmm, is it ok if I load from a savestate that occurs after the desync? (the movie originally synced and then i made a savestate) because this is what I've been doing lately... I don't know if this could possibly ruin the run or not. Once I get past a difficult segment, I load from this savestate to see if it syncs up (it always does). Or do I have to view the full run each time? (1 hour 20 mins) X_____X I'll try to encode once Sample:HO512 is defeated.

Just continue from where the last part you uploaded finished off (I think it was Aps and Reno battles). Doesn't matter if the whole thing fails to sync atm as long as you can record a decent chunk.

btw, i wasn't talking about recording an avi Sample: HO512 defeated. There's a "perfect" strat against him, but it is too improbable to work without costing substantial time. Let's see if it can work out... The perfect strat could save around 300 frames in this battle. Did the "perfect" strat. Saved 300 frames. update: Hundred/Heli Gunner destroyed. Now time for Rufus + Dark Nation In theory, this should be the easiest boss battle to manipulate so far Too afraid to make a good encode out of fear the emulator will desync if I mess with the plugins

What was the mistake that will cost 25-30 seconds?

I really hope the desync issues don't keep popping up. I watched the first 7 segments on Youtube, and I like how the TAS is going. :3 I hope to see it finished some day. ;3

the mistake was: not picking up the ether in elmyra's garden the first time consequently, having to shop twice update: Rufus down. And I managed to change the strat due to luck manip. I might be able to leave midgar by tonight. This depends on how difficult the motorball battle is. (currently around 8-9 minutes faster than garland's speedrun)
