Do you think you could upload the pxm file? I'm sure some interested person could make an encode up to the end of Midgar (not myself since I can barely get this computer to work, let alone run PCSX)

Are you actually fighting the Zolom, bypassing it on foot or bypassing it on Chocobo?

Yeah, I can't imagine getting the lure materia would be worth it in any way. Skipping the Zolom on foot is the only way to go, even in real time... it's super easy to do. I would imagine getting lure takes a couple minutes whereas waiting for the Zolom to be in a handy spot takes mere seconds or less depending on his random wandering (again, in real time... avoiding him on foot is super easy).

There might be a way to skip the Kalm flashback entirely. But to do this I'll need a lua script that can test every possible X/Y coordinate position, within a range, and press circle. Then compare an address to see if it was successful. Can someone help with this? It would potentially save 20 minutes. And if it works, it could be used to skip other plot sections. update: bottomswell defeated

Get me memory addresses for X and Y coords, the range of possible values, and the address to compare. I'll do it :)

hmm, the problem is I don't have any of the memory addresses that I need :P I guess someone else can try it if they want. update: President Rufus Parade Should I win the 'force stealer' weapon for Cloud? Braver is used at least twice on Jenova buster sword Att = 18 force stealer Att = 36 Lvl = 11 str = 25 The formula to work out how strong: Att + [(Att + Lvl) / 32] * [(Att * Lvl) / 32] Garland goes with HP Plus materia, instead of the 'force stealer', but it is debatable as to whether it will be needed in this run.

I think you should get the Force Stealer. HP is not as big an issue in a TAS as it would be for a real-time run (especially if you can manipulate level ups to get a bit more HP on average). If you feel you need them you can buy them at Cosmo Canyon, but they aren't cheap. Besides, the Force Stealer is a strong upgrade from the Buster Sword at that point in the game, and you cannot buy them until Corel which shows how useful it is.

Garland buys a Force Stealer later in his run anyway, so you might as well get it now. Also this WIP is blazing along at the moment :O Seems like every time I check the site it's up to the next area already.

Hmm, for the lua-script I can try to see what I can do if you provide some savestates, but first, you should give us a deeper explanation about when and how this glitch would be done.

Thanks to the great lua scripting work of Apo123 I got the 'fastest' version of the Rufus parade-routine thing. (It took 5 hours of brute force crunching :P) This saves 400~ frames An encode will be made sometime soon. From Reno to Shinra Boat. 1 hour+ of video. update: Jenova-BIRTH defeated Should I steal two right arms from the bomb enemies? They are used to deal 1300hp each to demons gate

I'd say so. Right Arms are strong thrown items at that point in the game, and it will save a fair bit of time on Demon Gate (10,000 HP iirc). One thing to note about the Demon Gate is that it will perform a charge attack after it loses 2500 HP, and each 2500 after that. But, I assume at that point you should probably only see one or two of those before he is finished off. It might be the fastest strategy to lock him up so he only does the charge attacks in fact, since he wastes a turn beforehand to perform it and therefore doesn't attack.

Forgot to mention that the bomb enemies may not come naturally. So it will waste a load of time having to get them.

They are most likely to occur on the bridge just before entering Corel, so I believe. I know in the PC version the encounters are rigged so you meet them twice there. I know the general modus operandus is to avoid encounters, but if you can trigger an encounter in that area, I'm sure it should be easy to manipulate a Bomb x2 to occur, and the Steal should be a relatively straightforward process.

after careful testing, right arms are not needed for DG they will be used for other enemies though

I'm sorry, but the mental image getting in a fight with a bomb, prying off his right arm, then running away with it is too funny to not mention.

hmm.. going by the speedrun.. getting in a fight with two bombs and stealing two right arms (in 2 rounds): ~20s (segment 34) watching the animations of two right arms (segment 58): ~12s having tifa attack 3 more times to make up for the lost damage (including additional gate attacks): ~45s so getting the arms should be ~13s faster. Unless you're using a completely different strategy on demon's gate?

I think one of the Right Arms will be used on Dyne, since it can OHKO him.
