So, this past weekend, I went to Bronycon. No, no, I didn't attend. I stood outside to gawk and take pictures. Here's a sampling. Keep in mind these were taken on my cell phone, which doesn't have a very good camera, and it was pretty cloudy that day. Also, I wanted to be discreet, so it's mostly backshots you'll see.
First,
a little evidence that I was there. This and two other stickers attached to the sidewalk appeared to be the only markings at the convention center indicating what was going on inside. Well, aside from all the weirdos milling about.
I caught a glance of
the girl on the left just as I was pulling into the parking lot. That was perhaps the most stressful parking I ever had to do, because I had to pay for my parking, and I didn't want to loose track of her. As I was following her, I passed by a couple of women who seemed to be in their 40's with their phones in Sailor Fluttershy's direction. Yeah, they too were getting pictures of the "interesting sites." I'm a little sad the face got obscured by the glass.
One fairly popular thing there
was shoulder ponies.
I meant to get a picture of the dude with Twilicorn on his head, but instead it turned into a generic group shot. There's another guy with a toy for a hat, but I forget which character it was.
And by far the strangest thing I saw there was
this guy. You can't see the front, so I'll have to let you know he had a short but thick beard, and the shirt was cut low enough so you could see that he had a very hairy chest. I can understand the zebra hat he had on but put on the ground when I took the shot, and I can get the zebra striped pants. But the broad heeled stilletos? Why? I'm pretty sure I don't want to know.
And that's all I was able to get. I would've taken more, but there was no way I could've taken some while being discreet, plus I was only there for 20 minutes before I got called into work. Also, I saw a few while driving around.
Other things I saw there:
The first sight I had after pulling into town was a 15 year old girl with a bright pink wig, a black jacket, and pink leggings. Typical enough, but what made me laugh was her mother walking alongside her, with a look that expressed, "I can't believe I'm doing this."
Some dude dressed as Discord, surpisingly close to how I imagined someone dressed as Discord would look like. I took a picture, but it didn't turn out.
A guy in a
ranger hat with a Pinkie Pie wig and tail sticking out from beneath his hat and coat, respectively.
An overweight chick with a purple wig, white miniskirt, and purple fishnet stockings. At least Sailor Fluttershy was a good looking form of "thick"; this one had no business being in that outfit.
What I presume was a dude - it was fairly ambiguous - in an outfit that closely resembled
the Statue of Liberty, but the crown had a single horn on it, and the whole outfit was twilight purple in color.
A fat white guy with a CMC cape and, of all things,
a GIR beanie.
An Asian kid in what was obviously an Octavia getup who carried a guitar around. I wish I had snapped a photo of him, or even better, a video of him playing.
And a bunch of other people who clearly don't spend enough time outside.
Overall, though, it didn't appear to be too bad. I might actually be fun if I attended with, say, my brother's family, all of whom are very into the show.
